Is it any good?
There are sensible choices here, but I would not recommend everything carrying an Archers listing. The useful distinction is construction: pocket springs are individually sleeved, whereas open-coil springs are joined together. My preference for a main bed is pocket springs, and the Sareer Matrah Pocket and Deluxe Memory Elite give you that starting point.
Archers also offers practical alternatives, including an extra-long mattress and a Flexisleep adjustable-bed mattress. Owner feedback is more mixed on firmness, edges and service. That makes this a retailer where checking the individual model counts for more than trusting a reassuring product name.
What it sells
Beyond the national brands, Archers stocks less familiar names including ASC, Willow & Eve Bed Co. and Flexisleep, plus Archers-branded furniture. The mattresses below lean towards entry-level open coil, with pocket-sprung options and specialist sizes alongside them.
- Dura Ortho Firm Mattress: UK-made, extra-firm open coil with a quilted damask cover. A specialist feel, not my default recommendation.
- Dura York Damask Mattress: medium open coil with a quilted cover. An entry-level spare-room option.
- Flexisleep Wetherby Pocket 1000 Adjustable Bed Mattress: medium-to-firm pocket springs, polyester fillings and a one-sided design for adjustable-bed shoppers.
- Deluxe Memory Flex Medium Mattress: open coil with memory foam and tufting. I would reserve it for occasional use.
- Deluxe Memory Elite Pocket 1000 Mattress: medium pocket-sprung support with memory foam and a tufted cover. A better main-bed starting point.
- Sareer Matrah Orthopaedic Mattress in a Box: quilted open coil. A couple of owners found it on the soft side, so do not buy it for the name.
- Highgrove Solar Supreme Mattress: medium-to-firm open coil with a stretch-knit cover. Edge complaints make me cautious.
- Deluxe Memory Elite Pocket 1000 Extra Long Mattress: pocket springs and memory foam in a 206cm length, worth considering for taller sleepers.
- Deluxe Memory Flex Orthopaedic Mattress: tufted memory foam over open coil. Not my first choice for everyday use.
- Deluxe Super Damask Orthopaedic Mattress: UK-made, tufted open coil with white fibre fillings. Owners describe less firmness than expected.
- Highgrove Solar Backcare Mattress: firm-labelled, double-sided open coil. Turnable construction is welcome; firmness feedback is less reassuring.
- Sareer Matrah Pocket 1000 Firm Mattress in a Box: pocket springs, white fibre fillings and tufting. My straightforward boxed option.
- Highgrove Aloe Vera Memory Pocket 1000 Mattress: pocket springs, memory foam and treated fabric. Judge the construction, not the treatment claims.
- Highgrove Edmonton Mattress in a Box: medium open coil with reflex foam, handles and a turnable build. A spare-room consideration.
- Shire Rochester Crib 5 Contract Waterproof Mattress: open coil with waterproof panels, made to Crib 5 specifications for contract requirements.
- Dura Roma Deluxe Mattress: extra-firm-labelled open coil with white fibre fillings and two usable sides. Not a general-purpose pick.
- Willow & Eve Bed Co. Cool Memory Dual Seasons Mattress: turnable open coil with memory foam. I would keep it to occasional use.
- Willow & Eve Bed Co. Ortho Support Mattress: firm open coil, white fibre fillings and a turnable design. A basic rather than upgraded choice.
- Dura Savoy Pocket 1000 Pillowtop Mattress: medium pocket springs with a cushion top and 34cm depth. I would pass on the pillowtop.
- Sareer Matrah Memory Coil Mattress in a Box: tufted open coil with memory foam. I would choose the pocket-sprung Sareer instead.
- Shire Roma Orthopaedic Mattress: firm open coil with white fibre fillings and a knitted cover. Not my main-bed preference.
- Highgrove Solar Comfort Mattress: medium, turnable open coil with a quilted poly-cotton cover. A basic guest-room candidate.
- Shire Manhattan Memory Mattress in a Box: UK-made open coil with 10mm memory foam, vacuum packed for easier access. Occasional use would be my limit.
- Deluxe Ellesmere Medium Mattress: a small-single, medium open-coil option with a micro-quilted finish. Check the dimensions carefully.
- Dura Victoria Ortho Mattress: ultra-firm, tufted open coil with a dual-sided build. Too specialist for a broad recommendation.
Becky's reasoning for her picks
The Deluxe Memory Elite Pocket 1000 Mattress gets my first look for its medium support and pocket-sprung construction. It makes more sense to me for regular use than choosing open coil just to get a memory-foam layer.
The Sareer Matrah Pocket 1000 Firm Mattress in a Box is the simpler alternative: fibre fillings rather than memory foam, with pocket springs underneath. The Flexisleep Wetherby Pocket 1000 Adjustable Bed Mattress serves a different need, combining a medium-to-firm specification with an adjustable-bed design. Confirm compatibility with your particular base before ordering.
What owners say
A couple of Deluxe Super Damask Orthopaedic owners found it less firm than expected. A couple of Highgrove Solar Backcare owners also questioned its advertised firmness. These comments are a useful warning against buying by name alone.
One Deluxe Memory Elite Pocket 1000 owner wanted handles; another was pleased with its comfort despite describing a modest foam layer. On the Highgrove Solar Supreme, a couple of owners raised edge concerns, while a couple praised comfort or construction. I would take that mixed picture seriously rather than repeat the listing's edge-support promises.
Buying it
You can shop online across the UK or visit Archers' Scottish showrooms, including Glasgow locations at Auldhouse, Great Western Road and Hillington. Standard online delivery is a one-person service to the ground-floor door of your building; a two-person room-of-choice service costs extra, and Scottish islands, Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man cost more and take longer. Many beds and mattresses are stocked in several stores, so with suitable transport you can take one home the same day.
One Dura Ortho Firm owner reported delivery dates changing; one Highgrove Solar Comfort owner praised delivery updates. A Highgrove Edmonton owner reported difficulty resolving a wrong-size order.
Archers backs its mattresses with a comfort guarantee: after a settling-in period, you can exchange one that does not suit you for an alternative, once. You need to have bought a Purecare mattress protector with it, redelivery is charged, and it is for UK mainland addresses. Electric adjustable beds and mattresses, Euro (IKEA) and Extra Long sizes, ex-display and clearance items are excluded, so my Flexisleep Wetherby pick sits outside it. Online orders can be cancelled for a refund while unused in their original packaging, but a mattress cannot be returned once its sealed bag is opened, and made-to-order items cannot be cancelled once production starts.
