Why our sleep experts loved it
Shopping the Deluxe Memory Elite Pocket 1000 Mattress online, without being able to pop into Archers in Scotland and actually lie on it, puts me straight into sceptical mode. Specs can sound brilliant on a product page, but they do not always translate into a mattress you still like after six months. That said, there is enough here to suggest genuine comfort for the right person, as long as you go in with realistic expectations about heat and long term durability.
Design and features
This is a classic hybrid build, pocket springs at the core with a proper layer of temperature sensitive memory foam on top. Pocket 1000 counts are usually a sensible middle ground in the UK market. You get a more tailored feel than open coil, but you are not paying for that ultra high spring count marketing battle. The stretch knit cover is a good sign for initial feel because it lets the foam respond rather than feeling held back by a stiff fabric. I also like that it is hand tufted. Tufting tends to help layers stay put and can reduce that early “lumpy” feeling some hybrids develop. But tufting can slightly interrupt the smoothness of memory foam, so if you love a perfectly uniform surface, it might not be your favourite sensation.
Mattress comfort
On paper, this should feel medium, with that slow settling memory foam hug on top, then a more buoyant pushback from the pocket springs underneath. The brand leans into the contouring story, and I can believe it. A deeper memory layer can be genuinely lovely for pressure relief, especially at the shoulders and hips. But it comes with a trade off. Memory foam that softens with warmth is also memory foam that can run hot, and I would not recommend this to hot sleepers. If you already kick the duvet off at 3am, this mattress is likely to make that worse. And because we have not tested it in store or at home, I cannot tell you whether the foam is the more breathable modern type or the denser, toastier kind. My instinct, based on the spec and positioning, is that it will sleep on the warmer side.
Suitability
This medium tension is most convincing for side sleepers. The combination of contouring foam and independent springs usually does a better job of letting the shoulder sink without collapsing the waist. Average weight sleepers should find it comfortable in most positions, but if you are a dedicated back sleeper and you like a really even, supportive feel, you may want something a touch firmer for cleaner spinal alignment. And if you are heavier in build, a medium memory hybrid can start to feel less supportive over time, especially if the comfort layer is on the deeper side. This is also a one sided mattress, so you will not be flipping it. Rotating helps, but it is not the same as being able to fully turn the surface over, and that matters for longevity.
The customer feedback we have is limited, but it is still useful. One reviewer says they bought the same model before and found it very comfy, which is encouraging for immediate comfort. They also mention needing extra deep fitted sheets. That may sound minor, but it often hints at a taller mattress profile, so it is worth budgeting for deeper sheets if your linen is already a tight fit.
The verdict
I like the concept here, and for mid range money a pocket 1000 and a deep memory feel can be a very satisfying mix. But I would not pretend it is a forever mattress. My honest take is that you can find comfort quickly, but the long term story is less certain, especially for warmer sleepers or anyone who needs firmer, flatter support. If you want that cosy, moulded memory sensation and you rotate it diligently, it could be a genuinely pleasant buy. If you are chasing cool sleep and long haul resilience, I would keep looking.
