Is it any good?
There is a sensible choice of constructions here. All five mattresses on this page use pocket springs, which I prefer to open coil for a main bed. Their individually sleeved springs provide a more useful starting point for my shortlist than an impressive-sounding model name. You can then choose between polyester, Air-Lite comfort layers, gel foam and natural fillings.
The important distinction is feel, not just the number in the name. Elland is described as medium, Wetherby as medium to firm, and Eco Natural Pocket 1500 and Ortho Pocket 1000 as firm. The Gel Pocket 1000 adds a layer of Gel-Flex foam, and it is the one I'd lie on in a showroom before choosing.
The range
These are the five adjustable-bed mattresses listed on this page. They offer different upholstery and comfort layers, rather than a straightforward ladder where every higher-numbered model is automatically a better buy.
- Flexisleep Elland Pocket 1000 Adjustable Bed Mattress: a medium option with pocket springs, 60mm Air-Lite comfort layers, knitted stretch fabric and a hand-tufted finish. The listing also describes foam reinforcement around the spring system for edge support. This is my starting point for someone who does not specifically want a firm mattress.
- Flexisleep Wetherby Pocket 1000 Adjustable Bed Mattress: a medium-to-firm mattress combining pocket springs, soft polyester fillings and a deep-quilted top panel. Its one-sided design needs rotating head to toe rather than turning over. It suits shoppers wanting that middle ground between medium and firm.
- Flexisleep Eco Natural Pocket 1500 Adjustable Bed Mattress: a firmer natural-fillings option, with cashmere wool and cotton around a pocket-sprung interior. Damask upholstery and hand tufting complete the construction. It is the one I would prioritise if those fillings matter more to you than foam comfort layers.
- Flexisleep Gel Pocket 1000 Adjustable Bed Mattress: pocket springs beneath 25mm of Air-Lite comfort foam and 25mm of Gel-Flex foam, finished with quilted stretch-knit fabric. It is the one to look at if you want gel foam above the springs.
- Flexisleep Ortho Pocket 1000 Adjustable Bed Mattress: a listed firm mattress with pocket springs, white fibre fillings, hand tufting and a deep pillow top. That last detail keeps it out of my picks. I dislike pillow tops and would compare the firm Eco Natural first.
Becky's reasoning for her picks
Elland is my first pick because a medium feel is the safer starting point if you are not sure how firm you like a bed, and Archers spells out its 60mm of Air-Lite comfort layers. I would put it ahead of choosing purely by spring-count wording. Wetherby offers a different route: a listed medium-to-firm feel, polyester upholstery and straightforward one-sided care.
Eco Natural Pocket 1500 is my firmer shortlist choice because it combines that stated feel with cashmere wool and cotton fillings, without the Ortho's pillow top. One owner still wanted it firmer, so if you like a really hard bed, try it first.
What owners say
A couple of owners commenting on the Eco Natural Pocket 1500 describe it as comfortable or working well with an adjustable bed. One says they do not get overheated; the other would have preferred a firmer mattress and mentions difficulty getting the bed structure upstairs.
On the Wetherby Pocket 1000, one owner reports quick delivery, easy setup and comfort. Another reports a drawer problem involving fabric coming away. That concerns the accompanying bed furniture rather than the mattress construction, so check the drawers on delivery if you buy a complete bed.
Elland Pocket 1000 feedback includes one owner whose delivery problems were followed by helpful customer service, while another praises service contacts. Gel Pocket 1000 comments raise ordering, payment and delivery-communication issues. One Ortho Pocket 1000 owner praises courteous assembly and an explanation of the controls. Agree the delivery and assembly arrangements before the day.
Buying it
Archers sells mattress-only options as well as complete Flexisleep electric adjustable beds. Check which you are ordering. The wider bed range includes sizes from 2ft6 to super king twin, including 3ft6, plus choices of base fabric, drawers, legs or glides, matching headboards and an optional bolt-on massage unit.
All five mattresses here are listed as made to order. Before ordering, confirm the mattress size, its suitability for your base, access upstairs and what delivery and assembly include. The listings provide postcode-based delivery information, so check arrangements for your address, particularly offshore or remote locations.
One thing to know before you choose: Archers' comfort guarantee does not cover electric adjustable beds or their mattresses. If you can, lie on the one you're considering in an Archers showroom before you order.
