Why our sleep experts loved it
The Flexisleep Wetherby Pocket 1000 Adjustable Bed Mattress caught my attention for one simple reason. It is actually built to work properly on an adjustable base. That sounds obvious, but in my experience a lot of mattresses claim compatibility, then fight the frame the moment you raise the head. This review is based on the online specifications and the customer feedback provided, not hands-on testing. And because Archers is up in Scotland, I did not have the chance to visit in store to assess it in person, which always adds a bit of healthy scepticism.
Design and features
On paper, the Wetherby is doing a lot of things right for an adjustable setup. The core is a pocket spring system with 1000 springs, where each spring sits in its own fabric sleeve. In theory, that gives more precise support and better isolation than older open coil designs, which can feel a bit like the whole mattress moves as one. I also like that it is upholstered in a cool touch stretch knit fabric. Stretch knit matters more than people think, especially on adjustable beds, because a stiffer cover can resist contouring and make the surface feel tighter than it should.
The build includes soft polyester fillings and a deep quilted top panel. That should take the edge off the springs and give a smoother, less bouncy feel. But I will be blunt, polyester fillings can be a mixed bag. They can feel plush at first, then compress over time, particularly if you sit on the same edge night after night. The other key detail is that it is one sided, so you rotate head to toe rather than flipping. Convenience is great, but you are relying on the top comfort layers holding up without a true flip option.
Mattress comfort
This is pitched as medium to firm, and I think that is where it is likely to shine. With pocket springs providing the main support and quilting providing the comfort buffer, you are usually looking at a feel that is supportive first, cushioned second. That is a good thing if you hate the slow sink of memory foam, or if you simply want your mattress to feel stable when the bed is adjusted.
I would not expect a dramatic, cloud-like hug. I would expect steadier pressure relief, with the springs doing the work underneath. If you are used to softer hybrids, this could feel a bit no-nonsense. But if you wake up feeling twisted or you dislike overly soft tops, this direction makes sense.
Suitability
For typical sleepers, I see the Wetherby suiting average weight back and side sleepers best. Medium firm is that practical middle ground where your hips do not drop too far, but your shoulders still get enough give. Back sleepers in particular should get a reassuring level of support, and I would expect the pocket springs to help keep the lumbar area from sagging when the bed is flat or slightly elevated.
Side sleepers are a bit more nuanced. If you have an hourglass shape or sharper shoulders and hips, you may want a touch more sink to avoid pressure building up over a long night. You might still be fine here, but you are taking a small gamble without trying it first. Adjustable bed users who like reading in bed should appreciate the independent spring response, since it usually prevents that hammock feeling when the frame is raised.
The verdict
If you want an adjustable bed mattress that is not trying to be trendy, the Flexisleep Wetherby Pocket 1000 looks like a strong contender. The pocket spring construction and stretch knit cover are the right choices for flexing with the base, and the medium firm comfort level should suit a wide range of sleepers. My main reservations are the one sided design and the reliance on polyester fillings, which can be less durable than higher density comfort materials. Still, if your priority is a supportive, adaptable mattress that should behave properly on an adjustable frame, I would put this near the top of the shortlist. Just go in with realistic expectations about plushness, and remember we are judging it from specs rather than a proper home trial.
