On paper this is a 'proper' traditional mattress: 1000 hand-nested pocket springs, wool and cotton fillings, hand tufting and two sleeping sides. That's the well-made Millbrook way of doing things rather than a boxed mattress pretending to be luxury, and owners read it the same way, one calling it "A traditional mattress just as I expected it to be."

The cover is a cotton and viscose blend and owners rate the finish, one writing that "the cover feels very silky". Underneath, each of the 1000 springs sits in its own cloth pocket, so I'd expect them to push back individually rather than the whole surface dipping at once. A few owners say they can feel the springs through the wool and cotton, though, one of them "more than I would like".
The Millbrook Wool Luxury 1000 Pocket Mattress is designed to combine the pressure relieving comfort of pocket springs with the warmth and breathability of wool and cotton. The mattress offers a medium to firm feel and is 25cm deep giving enough room for a good quality pocket spring layer with its individually wrapped coils to be able to offer sufficient support.
A medium to firm tension over pocket springs should keep you nicely level through the hips and lower back when you're on your back. Owners back that up, one finding it "great for sleeping on my back". On your side that same tension presses more at the shoulder, so if you're lighter in weight or very bony at the shoulder you might find it a touch too firm without a topper. One owner wrote "I'll probably buy a mattress topper as I find it a little firm."
It is also worth being aware that wool can feel a bit 'springy' and buoyant compared to memory foam, so if you like that slow sink-in hug, this isn't really that sort of mattress.
The surface provides an even support across the entire sleeping surface which combined with the air vents helps to provide a cool, fresh sleeping environment.
The edge is reinforced with two rows of side stitching, which should make it decent but not rock solid, and that's normal for a more traditional build. Owners who mention the edge mostly want it firmer: one found "The edges squash too much when I get in and out of bed", though another wrote that it "doesn't collapse if you sleep on the edge". At 25cm deep it isn't the easiest thing to spin around on your own, even with the stitched turning handles.
