How our product reviews are written
A product review on WantMattress starts with a person. Where we have tested a mattress in person, the review is built from that reviewer's first-hand experience: their notes on how it felt, what they liked and what they didn't. The page names who tested it.
Where we haven't tested a product ourselves, the review is our reviewers' informed opinion of it. They read the specification the way people who have handled a lot of mattresses do: what the fillings, spring count, depth and firmness mean in practice, how the product compares with similar ones we have tested, and what owners say about it.
Either way the verdict is a person's, drawn from their experience and their notes. A tool can help put those notes into sentences. It doesn't supply the opinion.
What people do
- Opinions and scores: Verdicts, opinions and the Review Rating are our reviewers' own. A tool doesn't decide what we think of a mattress. How we test explains our scores.
- Product facts: Prices, sizes, guarantees, sleep trials and delivery terms come from the retailer's own listing, and we check our pages against it.
- Health guides: Clinical claims link to the NHS page or the study behind them, and registered health professionals comment under their own names.
- Publishing: Nothing goes onto the site by itself. A person at WantMattress approves and publishes each change, and WantMattress is responsible for what the site says. Our about page lists the writers.
AI tools help us with wording, with checking our pages against the retailers' listings and our own writing rules, and with the illustrations on our sleep advice articles. They work from material we give them: the retailer's specification, customer reviews, our reviewers' notes and our sources.
Doze AI is an AI chat assistant. Its answers are generated as you ask, so check anything important against the product page or the retailer before you buy.
What is never generated
- Customer reviews: We don't publish generated customer reviews. Our reviews policy explains where reviews come from.
- Expert quotes: A quote from a named expert is that person's own words, supplied by them. It goes onto the page exactly as supplied.
- Health safety wording: The warning signs on our health guides are taken from the source they cite.
- Customer star ratings: The star average on a product page is arithmetic on the reviews we have.
If something is wrong
A wrong fact is corrected the same way however the sentence was written. The correction goes on the page and in the corrections log. Tell us if you spot one.
