Who writes for us
Our writers are listed on the about page, each with a profile. Some of them write under a pen name for privacy, and every byline belongs to a person on that list.
Reviews and guides name who did what. “Written by” is the author. Where they apply you'll also see “Tested by” and “Expert comment”, each with a name beside it. Where resource allows, a second member of the team peer reviews a guide.
Where our facts come from
Product facts
Prices, sizes, guarantees, sleep trials and delivery terms come from the retailer's or brand's own listing for the product. Retailers change these without notice, so a page can fall behind. If one of our pages disagrees with the retailer's listing, go by the listing and tell us.
Health and sleep claims
Where a guide makes a clinical claim, it links to the NHS page or the study behind it. Sources cited on our health guides include the NHS, NICE guidance, peer-reviewed studies and professional bodies such as the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
We don't use another review site, or a retailer's marketing copy, as evidence for a health claim. Links to other pages on this site are there to help you get around. They are never a source.
Nothing on WantMattress is medical advice. If you have a health concern, speak to your GP.
Customer reviews
Our reviews policy covers where the customer reviews on product pages come from and how the star average is worked out.
Expert comment
Registered health professionals comment on our health guides under their own names. Each one is on their regulator's public register, and we check that register before we publish. Their registration number appears beside their comment, and any work they do for a bedding or mattress company is shown as a declared interest.
“Expert comment” means the quoted words are theirs. It is not a clinical review of the whole page. Product picks on a guide are WantMattress's own, and the guide says who chose them.
Researchers and specialists who comment on their own area of work are shown with their role and the organisation they speak for. Everyone who contributes is listed on the about page.
Scores and testing
Every mattress gets an editorial Review Rating from 1 to 5. Our how we test page explains how that rating is reached, and how we assess a product we haven't physically tested.
Independence
WantMattress is funded by commission from retailers. Commission rates play no part in which products we feature, the scores they receive, or the order they appear in. The affiliate disclaimer explains how the commission works and where pages are labelled.
Our brand reliability report ignores anything hosted on this site. Its numbers come only from what shoppers wrote where they bought.
Corrections
Report a mistake through the contact page. We check the point against our sources. If we were wrong, we correct the page and add a dated note to it saying what was wrong and what changed.
Every correction is also collected in the public corrections log, each one linked to the page it was made on. Small edits to wording or links aren't listed one by one.
Pages show the date they were last updated, and the date of their latest correction where there is one.
In October 2026 we checked every product and brand page against the retailers' current listings and brought them up to date. The changes from that review are in the log.
AI tools
We use AI tools as a writing and checking aid. Opinions, scores and recommendations are our reviewers' own, and a person at WantMattress approves and publishes every change. How our reviews are written has more.
