Who Makes Rest Assured And Where Are They Made
Established in 1888, Rest Assured offers luxury British craftsmanship at affordable prices. Their UK manufacturing facilities in rural Lancashire produce a wide range of mattresses as well as upholstered divans and headboards, built with quality and safety in mind. Their local Bed-making experts have a combined experience of over 100 years. Each piece is handcrafted with the focus on attention to detail, using tried and tested techniques. When I ran my hand over a Rest Assured cover in-store, it felt nicely finished and properly stitched, not rough or flimsy.
Rest Assured conduct their own stringent safety and quality tests in their independently accredited SATRA and BSI testing lab, ensuring that all products are properly and carefully constructed to the highest British and EU standards. Mattresses can be flammable when exposed to fire so Rest Assured mattresses will also have to pass stringent fire safety requirements.
What Is Inside A Rest Assured Mattress And What Makes Them So Good
All of their mattresses are made with premium zoned pocket springs combined with luxurious fillings such as British wool, fresh fibers, silk and latex to offer superb comfort and tailored support. They promote responsible management of the world’s forests as a member of the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®). They also meet the REACH regulations on the materials they source (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of Chemicals). That said, those richer natural fillings can add a bit of weight, so rotating it can be more of a two-person job than some lighter foam-only mattresses.
Rest Assured are so confident in their craftsmanship they offer a full 5 year manufacturer’s guarantee on all of their mattresses, upholstered divan beds and headboards. They have also received recognition from the Good Housekeeping Institute, with their British wool mattresses being awarded the prestigious Good Housekeeping Institute approval. The group found that their mattress provides the right balance between comfort and support, in any sleeping position while regulating temperature effectively. The seal of approval shows that the independent body is so confident in the materials and craftsmanship used they are willing to offer an additional limited warranty. I did find, when sitting right on the edge, it compresses a bit more than a firmer foam-edge design, so if you perch on the side a lot it might not feel as solid as some rivals. Also, a 5 year guarantee is fine, but at this price point I do sometimes like to see longer.
Rest Assured Through Our Eyes
We've reviewed Rest Assured across multiple models over the years. It's part of the Silentnight Group alongside Silentnight itself, Myers and Layezee, and that shared ownership gives it manufacturing scale that smaller traditional brands can't match. But it keeps its own identity as the more traditional pocket spring and natural filling side of the group, while Silentnight handles the mainstream mass market.
Build quality has been consistent at every tier we've looked at. Pocket springs are properly constructed with the zoned support layouts the brand is known for, and the natural fillings use real wool and silk rather than the polyester substitutes that let a lot of mid-market rivals down. The covers hold up over time too, which matters more than people think for a mattress you're expecting to keep for a decade.
The Range in Detail
The 2000 pocket tier is where most of the action is. The British Wool 2000 Pocket pairs 2000 springs with a British wool comfort layer and comes in multiple firmness options - it's a good starting point that balances price and construction quality well. The Minerva 2000 Pocket Silk adds silk fibre fillings for a softer, more premium surface feel. And the Northington 2000 Pocket Natural focuses on natural fillings throughout for buyers where material sourcing matters as part of the purchase decision.
Spring counts above and below 2000 exist across the range, but the 2000 tier is where Rest Assured hits its stride on quality versus value, and it's the place to begin unless you have a specific reason to go higher or lower.
What Stands Out
The Silentnight Group infrastructure matters at point of purchase more than you'd think. Warranty claims, returns, parts supply - it's all handled by an operation that manages one of the largest mattress manufacturing groups in the UK, which means the after-sales support is more reliable than what smaller standalone brands can offer.
Good Housekeeping Institute approval on the wool range is worth mentioning because independent endorsements in the mattress industry are rare and hard to earn. The GHI seal on the wool models reflects testing that the brand didn't pay for and couldn't influence, which makes it a quality signal you can actually trust.
Distribution is through traditional retailers rather than direct, so you can see the mattresses in person before buying. The trade-off is that prices vary between retailers, and comparing a few before you commit is worth the effort even if it takes an extra half hour of browsing.
