Why our sleep experts loved it
I got my hands on this Rest Assured Adleborough 1400 Pocket Ortho Mattress in-store and it’s clearly been designed to give orthopaedic support as well as helping to relieve pressure points.
The mattress features pocket springs, soft white fibres, damask cover and is 25.5cm deep. When I pressed down across the surface I could feel the pocket springs reacting in smaller sections rather than one big ‘bounce’, which is what you want if you’re after that more controlled support. It is also air ventilated to provide enhanced comfort throughout the night and includes turning handles for ease of movement, and yes, I actually grabbed the handles and they’re properly stitched in, not just for show.
On my back, it felt nicely supportive through the lower back and hips, and it’s the sort of feel I’d point firmer-back sleepers towards. Side sleeping was a bit more hit and miss for me though, if you’re lighter or have bony shoulders, this ortho style can feel a touch unforgiving around the shoulder. The 25.5cm depth is decent, but it’s not a super chunky build, so if you’re expecting that big hotel-style ‘sink in’ comfort, this isn’t really that type of mattress.
The Rest Assured Adleborough 1400 Pocket Ortho Mattress is a high quality mattress with orthopaedic support, but it won’t suit everyone.
The pocket springs and soft white fibres contour to your back whilst you sleep, offering great support. Running my hand across the damask cover, it felt smooth and smart, but it’s the kind of fabric that can show marks a bit easier than a knit if you’re not using a decent protector. Also worth saying, it’s got turning handles which is great, but at 25.5cm and with an ortho feel it’s not the lightest thing to manoeuvre, so rotating it is still a two-person job for most people. The damask cover is soft and looks great in any bedroom.
