Why Our Sleep Experts Loved It

becky says

If you're looking for a fluffy, comfortable mattress that will provide a good night's sleep, the Relyon Heyford Ortho 1500 Pocket Mattress might be worth considering as it is a high-quality, extra firm base layer that is perfect for those who need extra support for their back. Let's break down each layer and then look at the specifics of why you might find this product to be suitable.

The Base Layer

It features 1500 individual pocket springs that respond to your unique shape and provide personalised support. These pocket springs are encased in their own fabric pockets, which allows them to move independently and contour to your body. This means that you get targeted support where you need it most, and the pocket springs also help to reduce motion transfer, so you and your partner can sleep peacefully without being disturbed by each other's movements.

The Comfort Layer

In addition to the pocket springs, the Heyford also has a durable cotton foundation and extra deep layers of cooling natural cotton and hypoallergenic super flex foam to provide additional comfort and support. The natural cotton fillings are breathable and help to wick away moisture, which helps to keep you cool and comfortable while you sleep. The super flex foam is a high-density foam that is designed to be soft and supportive, and it helps to add extra comfort to the mattress.

Additional Components and Features

One of the standout features of this mattress is its firm edge support, which prevents you from rolling off the bed and ensures you have maximum sleeping space. This is achieved through the use of a unique firmer outer spring on the sides of the mattress, which helps to keep you in place and provides a stable edge for you to sleep on. The firm edge support is particularly useful if you tend to sleep near the edge of the bed, as it helps to prevent you from feeling like you might roll off. The Heyford is also hand-tufted with wool tufts and has three rows of side-stitching to provide extra durability. This helps to keep the fillings in place and ensures that the mattress retains its shape and support over time. The wool tufts are also a nice touch, as they help to add a touch of luxury to the top layer and make it feel more comfortable and inviting. That's not all however, as the make-up of these components means that the product is naturally hypoallergenic, making it a good choice for those with allergies or who want a cleaner, healthier sleeping environment. The hypoallergenic fillings also help to reduce the risk of irritation and allergies, so you can sleep peacefully without worrying about any potential health issues.

One of the main complaints of other products is durability, not an issue for the Heyford as it is also double-sided, so you can flip it over to extend its life. This is a useful feature, as it allows you to get even more value out of your mattress. Simply flip it over every few months, and you'll be able to enjoy all the comfort and support it has to offer for longer. The built-in turning handles are also a convenient feature, as they make it easy to move and rotate the mattress, which is important for maintaining its shape and support over time.

In terms of aesthetics, and the last piece of the puzzle, the Heyford is covered in a luxury damask cover which is both soft and durable, giving an elegant and classy look to the mattress while also ensuring good breathability for the materials underneath.

Key Performance Indicators KPI question mark

Our Key Performance Indicators are produced using a combination of specification-heavy algoritmic data points and user reviews. This is one of 100+ datapoints considered when generating the below ratings.

Suitability

*Assuming average weight, suitability will vary dependant on body type, use the quiz above for a more tailored guide.
  • Back Sleepers

What Makes The Relyon Heyford Ortho 1500 Pocket Mattress Great?

Featuring extra firm, orthopaedic support

Firm Tension Support Mattresses are suited to those who prefer sleeping on their front and back. Typically sleeping on your back helps ensure the spine remains aligned throughout the night and is the most natural sleeping position that can prevent twisting and turning. A firm mattress ensures that a high level of support contours around your body, alleviating pressure across your entire frame in a more even manner than that of a soft mattress, most notably in the hips, neck and shoulders. Finally, if you are suffering from neck or back pain, a firm mattress can help alleviate these problems and result in a better and more relaxed sleep for many years to come.

Perfect if you love high levels of support to help care for your back

1500 individual pocket springs respond to your unique shape for tailor-made support

Pocket springs are probably the best support layer you can get in a mattress helping to provide measured and even support across your body where you need it most. What's more, the unique feeling of pocket springs hugs each point of your body, offering contouring across each pressure point to relieve aches and pains. Lesser models will frequently include alternatives to pocket springs like open coil traditional springs and reflex foam. Do not be fooled, while pocket springs are often slightly more money than their counterparts, you are typically getting a better spring system and base layer. When it comes to pocket springs and the quality within, the more springs generally the better as the density will increase contouring ever-closer to your body as you sleep.

No transfer of movement between you and your partner

Firm edge support provides maximum sleeping space

When we fall asleep, our muscles relax and what that does is it allows our body to decompress. But when we're sleeping on a too soft mattress, the muscles don't have enough support and they're not getting the proper relaxation. The benefits of a firm mattress are that you're going to sleep more soundly,  your back pain is going to be relieved and you're going to have less muscle aches and pains.

Supportive cotton foundation to provide further durability

Cotton is a natural fiber that breathes well, keeping you cool and comfortable while you sleep. It's also durable and absorbent, so it will help keep your mattress clean and fresh. Cotton is a great choice for people who are looking for a natural, breathable, and durable mattress material.

Generous comfort layers of luxurious natural cotton

Cotton is a natural material that is breathable and helps to regulate body temperature, making it a comfortable choice for sleeping. Cotton is also durable and will not break down as quickly as other materials, meaning your mattress will last longer.

Cotton is breathable and cooling, for perfect comfort

Hand-tufted for extra support and durability

Hand Tufting is a labor intensive process that involves securing the fittings to a mattress rather than having them operate independently and loose within. This small act not only secures, but also leads to the mattress lasting longer and feeling firmer. A hand-tufted mattress is great for anyone looking for additional stability while they sleep.

Three rows of side stitching to secure the mattress fillings

Hand side stitching is a true mark of quality found in the upper-quality segment of mattresses. The process is very labor intensive as it involves attaching the side panel of the mattress to the pocket spring support layer found within a mattress helping to give better edge support and preventing roll-off.

Hypoallergenic - ideal if you suffer from allergies

Allergy sufferers often experience the problem of waking up in the middle of the night or having to get up in the morning with a stuffy nose and eyes. The reason why you wake up with a stuffy nose is because your mattress has accumulated dust mites, mould and mildew, all of which are allergens. The solution is a hypoallergenic mattress is made from materials that do not support mould or dust mites. They also have anti-microbial properties that effectively kill any bacteria that may come into contact with it.

Double-sided for extra comfort and support

The benefits of a double sided mattress are that you get twice the surface area of comfort layers. The real-world practicality of this means that you flip the mattress as well as rotate allowing for better settlement of fillings which increases longevity, while reducing the chance of dipping or spring problems that may otherwise occur. Ultimately the mattress will likely last longer and remain comfortable for a greater duration.

Complete with built-in turning handles for easy moving

This mattress comes with turning handles that will assist in the rotation and flipping of the product. May seem like no big deal selecting a mattress without handles, however, their use is critical in the movement of larger mattresses and can be the difference between pains and inconvenience and not,

Depth: 32cm

A mattress with a depth of 32 cm is generally good for providing proper support for your body, as well as providing comfort. This is a somewhat generalisation, however, the deeper a mattress is, the more room for good quality fillings. This depth is just on the limit of what a standard sheet will support and you may find deeper sheets are a necessity.

Made in the UK

These are made and manufactured in the UK, meaning that they all meet the same exceptional quality and durability that we expect from genuine UK manufacturing.

8 Year Guarantee

An 8 year guarantee is fantastic news for the consumer. A normal industry standard is 1 year. 8x the standard guarantee means that the supplier and retailer both feel that this product is pretty special. Buy with confidence, the average mattress typically gets replaced after 7 years and here we have the supplier offering beyond that

Pocket springs

Pocket springs are like natures own springy piece of comfort, except they are not from nature. Alas, pocket springs are a very good part of a mattress and often found in the more premium models. Lower quality products will frequently use open coil spring setups, where pocket springs house each spring in a tiny pocket for additional stability and continued support. Pocket spring typically lasts longer than open coil due to this.

Cotton

A cotton mattress cover of fairly good quality and often preferable to damask covers and weaved covers. Your preference will vary though.

Damask cover

Damask is a fabric, woven in nature that is often used to upholster mattresses. It is typically made from linen or cotton and can typically be woven into delivate detailings required by the supplier. The fabrics are typically fairly hard wearing and should not cause problems

Reinforced mattress edge

One of the most common complaints in the industry is against mattresses with a weak mattress edge. It can often result in the user feeling like they are going to fall off the side of the bed and bed avoided. This mattress has a reinforced edge, something that helps ensure that particular scenario is avoided when you get close to a mattress edge while sleeping.

Orthopaedic Support

Do you suffer from back pain? If so you will likely find that an orthopaedic mattress will be massively beneficial to you. Slightly firmer in the comfort side of things but ultimately with a better support layer means that your back and neck will thank you for years to come.

Hypoallergenic

This product is unlikely to cause any sort of allergic reaction. Ideal if you suffer from any sort of allergy problems

Extra firm

Extra Firm mattresses are great for those that have a heavier BMI than average, or, for those of average of higher BMI that suffer from back pain. If you find yourself sleeping on your side, or you are of a lower BMI, you may want to consider a lower firmness mattress as this will likely not be suitable.

32cm deep

32cm is a very chunky mattress. Note that this product is likely to include a thick comfort later as well as a decent sizes support layer. You will need deeper fitting sheets as this is an absolute beast.

Double-sided

Double sided just means that the product can be flipped and still retain the same level of comfort. The fillings and dibres inside the product are capable of operating in any direction. Handy for settlement and to prevent dipping.

Includes turning handles

Oh turning handles are pointless I hear you say. Just try flipping and turning this product without handles. It can be a pain. Remember that mattresses should be both rotated and flipped frequently, not a problem if you are opting for a sinle, but those doubles and kings can get heavy. Handles are very good.

Handcrafted in the UK

Handcrafted in the UK means that the product is built here, by people being paid a fair and honest wage using certified and safe products of good quality and construction. UK manufacturing is some of th best in the world and all of that is reflected in this product

Fire Resistant

Fire resistant does not mean the product will never catch fire, rather, it will not go up in flames quite so quickly. Resistant to fire in the same way that I am resistant to kisses, sooner or later you end up giving in.

Approved by the National Bed Federation

The NBF is one of the most prestigious awarding federations in the industry, helped slightly by the fact that it is one of the only, however, it is still a great source of comfort knowing that this product holds approval by the team
