Slumberland was established in 1919 making it one of the older mattress and bed manufacturers. The company was established and resides in Cambridgeshire from where it became one of the largest manufacturers in Europe. Slumberland has a specific focus toward health and wellbeing, adapting and ensuring that all mattresses are of a premium quality with the latest and best innovation. Slumberland has many luxurious foam mattresses that offer significant comfort over many rivals.
Slumberland is one of the most famous and well known brands within the industry both within the UK and internationally thanks to their excellent quality and supreme comfort. The latest collections go a step further and offer new technologies to help with enhanced cooling. Ultimately Slumberland is the benchmark for many within the industry and has dedicated huge resources toward improving your comfort and sleep quality.
The Slumberland Guarantee
All Slumberland products have the full weight and confidence of the manufacturer behind them, that's why each mattress is guaranteed for 8 years. We’ve been in the industry a while now and this sort of guarantee is one of the highest offered, protecting consumers and their investment.
The Slumberland Range
Slumberland have been tweaking their lineup in the last 12 months and we’ve seen some big movers and shakers as ranges are adjusted and adapted with a strong consumer mindset. Popular ranges this year include the likes of the Amari and Airstream models which have a focus toward cooling technology and keen price points. Slumberland is more than just two models however and has seen particular success with its new Rollo lineup of rolled bed in a box mattresses.
Slumberland Rollo Mattresses
Constantly being expanded, the Rollo lineup has transformed Slumberland from a conventional mattress manufacturer to a new bed-in-a-box model that sees costs being able to be passed onto the consumer through savings in logistics, ranging from warehousing through to delivery savings. Rollo mattresses have been greatly received among consumers and it’s easy to see why. You get the same great quality Slumberland components and design but at a lower price point that is sure to appeal to many. The Rollo lineup goes head to head with other big rolled mattress manufacturers like Nectar, Simba and Emma.
Slumberland Solutions Mattresses
Exclusive to Bensons for Beds we have an all new Slumberland Solutions range of mattresses which feature some interesting features not often found on other mattresses.
Cirrus is a smart fibre which is environmentally friendly and produced from sustainable sources. This layer helps to divert and avoid build up of moisture away from the body while you sleep, helping to ensure that the mattress remains fresh and breathable while you stay cooler as a result.
Another piece layer unique to the Slumberland Solutions range is the True Comfort filling layer which is a series of filling layers that are sustainable, non toxic and operate as a comfort layer which sits at the top of the mattress above the spring support layer. This layer has proved extremely popular thanks to its unique softness and strong consumer appeal.
Not necessarily unique to the Solutions range, most Slumberland mattresses make use of Edge Zoning Technology. In reality this means you have a firmer edge to the product which allows you to make full use of the entire surface area with the confidence that you won’t fall out and can thereby sleep right to the edge of the mattress. It gives a confident and comfortable nights sleep and just another reason as to why Slumberland is such a great option for many.
Slumberland Ranges: Air, Naturals, Orthopaedic Support and More
All but one of the Slumberland mattresses we list are pocket-sprung at the core. What changes from series to series is the comfort layer on top: memory foam in Air, wool and plant fibres in Naturals, latex in Response Latex. Firmness is the one thing the series names leave out. Across our listings the spread leans heavily firm, with a handful of mediums and nothing soft at all.
The Air memory series trips buyers up because the tier numbers appear written both ways depending on where you look. An Air 2.0, 3.0 or 6.0 spotted elsewhere is the tier we review as the Air 20, 30 or 60. The range starts at the Air 20 (the 2.0), runs through the Air 30, Air 60 and Air 90, and tops out with the Air 12.0; as the numbers climb the mattresses get taller and the specification fills out. The pitch for the whole series is airflow: memory foam comfort for sleepers who would otherwise avoid foam for fear of overheating.
The rest of the listed range breaks down by comfort layer:
- Naturals (Premium Wool, Ultimate Wool and Plant-Based Luxe) - natural fillings that breathe well, making this the cooler-sleeping pick.
- Orthopaedic Support (Premium, Luxe and Ultimate) - the firm-support family, suited to back sleepers and anyone after proper orthopaedic-style support.
- Response Latex (Premium, Luxe and Ultimate) - latex comfort that responds as you move rather than letting you sink in slowly the way memory foam does.
- Duo 2-in-1 (1000, 1400 and 2200) and the Flip Duo Comfort - flippable designs with a different firmness on each side, so one mattress covers two feels.
- Aero Gel Fusion (1600 and 2400 Pocket), Orthofirm 800 and Memory Plus 1800 - standalone pocket-sprung models with no series family around them.
Stockists vary by series: different retailers carry different Slumberland ranges, so the retailer listings on each review below are the quickest way to see who sells the model you are after.
What Slumberland Has Become
We've reviewed Slumberland across several years and the brand is more interesting than it gets credit for. A decade ago it was a straightforward traditional pocket spring manufacturer selling through the high street. Now it runs the Rollo bed-in-a-box range, the Bensons-exclusive Solutions partnership, and the Airstream and Amari cooling models - all alongside the heritage pocket spring catalogue. That's a lot of reinvention for a brand that's been around since 1919, and they've pulled it off without the heritage quality slipping.
Build quality has stayed consistent even as the product lines have multiplied. Springs are well made, foam densities are reasonable, covers on the mid-to-upper models hold up over time. For a brand that's had to reinvent itself under new ownership, that says something.
Who Should Be Looking at Slumberland
Mid-market buyers who want a British heritage name with a decent guarantee. The 8 year cover is above industry average and Slumberland wouldn't offer it if the build didn't back it up. Back sleepers and combination sleepers are well served across the pocket spring tiers. Couples tend to do well with the Solutions range - the Edge Zoning improves the edges of the mattress for sitting and sleeping near the border.
Side sleepers need to be careful with model choice though. The firmer options can feel hard at the shoulder. Stick to the softer pocket spring models or look at the Airstream and Amari ranges if you run warm - the cooling layers on those are a real improvement, not just a label claim.
What Stands Out (Good and Bad)
The pivot from heritage brand to multi-format manufacturer has worked. That's rare. The Rollo range holds its own against Emma, Simba and Nectar on price and feel, while the traditional pocket springs above it still sell through the same high street retailers Slumberland has supplied for decades. Straddling both worlds like that takes some doing.
Distribution is the part that catches people out. Different retailers stock different Slumberland models, and the Solutions range is Bensons-only. Before you buy, check which retailer actually carries the specific model you want. The Slumberland name covers several distinct lines and assuming everything is available everywhere will waste an afternoon.
The 8 year guarantee is a quiet signal of confidence. Seven years is the norm across the industry. Slumberland going a year beyond suggests they're not worried about what happens in year six. Traditional pocket spring models in particular tend to last well past the warranty based on what owners tell us.
