Becky’s take

By Becky Reeve

Checked against current models and prices in October 2026

Buy the DreamCloud if you're an average build or lighter and sleep on your side or your back, because every DreamCloud is medium and most Slumberlands are firm. It comes rolled in a box, memory foam over pocket springs, and you get a 365-night trial to decide whether it stays. Slumberland's medium memory-foam mattresses, the Air 6.0 and the Air Memory 2.0, cost more. The extra money buys you the chance to lie on one first at Bensons for Beds.

If you're on the heavy side, or a back sleeper who'd rather feel propped up than cushioned, buy a Slumberland, because DreamCloud makes nothing firm. Slumberland's firm Airs keep the memory-foam top. Its Orthopaedic Support models are plain pocket springs with no foam. Its Naturals and Response ranges put wool or latex on top, which suits anyone who gets too warm on foam.

Far more people have reviewed a Slumberland, but plenty have reviewed the DreamCloud too, so you're not buying blind. Read DreamCloud's collection terms before you order, then use the whole year to make up your mind.

Head to head

Slumberland has 17 of its 18 mattresses sprung; DreamCloud has sprung throughout, every model a hybrid. Only Slumberland offers latex, in 8 models. Slumberland runs from medium to firm, and every DreamCloud mattress is medium. Slumberland covers more of the firmness scale, which helps if two sleepers need different feels. DreamCloud is the cheaper way in, though not by much. At the top end Slumberland goes further still.

Slumberland

Slumberland is one of the oldest and most prestigious mattress manufacturers in the UK having first been established in 1919 in Birmingham. To this day, Slumberland remains one of the largest mattress manufacturers, offering an impressive range of products in pocket spring support layers accompanied by numerous upper comfort layers, primarily of foam and latex.

When it comes to price point, Slumberland aims to capture the mid-range price tier while still offering upper range quality. This is evident in the pocket spring support layers offered across the lineup, a support that tops the charts in terms of body contouring and pressure relief.

DreamCloud

DreamCloud Sleep, established in 2016, has swiftly become a notable name in the online mattress industry, offering luxury hybrid mattresses that combine premium materials with clever design. The company's flagship product, the DreamCloud Hybrid Mattress, features a blend of plush memory foam and individually wrapped coils, providing a balance of comfort and support. This design aims to cater to various sleep preferences, ensuring a restful night's sleep for a wide range of customers.

One of the standout features of DreamCloud mattresses is the 365-night trial period, allowing customers to thoroughly test the product in the comfort of their homes. DreamCloud offers a lifetime warranty, reflecting the company's confidence in the durability and quality of their mattresses. The brand emphasises value by providing premium sleep experiences at more accessible price points, appealing to consumers seeking both luxury and affordability in their sleep solutions.

Slumberland owner satisfaction

Slumberland mattresses are well reviewed, mostly for comfort and support. "Comfortable from day one", one Naturals Premium Wool owner wrote. An Orthopaedic Support owner called it "Firm but not too firm". Bad backs come up a lot, and usually the owner says the pain has eased ("Really helps with back pain"). Plenty think the price is justified: "Expensive but worth it". Heat barely gets a mention, and when it does owners split about evenly between saying the mattress stays cool and saying it runs warm. A minority of owners report a dip forming within weeks ("Sagging and dipping on one side already"). Several mention a smell on unpacking that took anywhere from a few days to a month or more to clear. A fair number found theirs heavy to rotate: "The mattress is really comfy but it is so heavy." Edges split opinion: Orthopaedic Support owners mostly praise them, while a fair few Air and Naturals owners found them soft when sitting on the side of the bed.

Slumberland supportiveness

When it comes to supportiveness, Slumberland deals almost exclusively with pocket spring base layers. I bring up pocket springs a lot because they are the true mark of a good quality support structure, they generally perform better in tests than open coil traditional springs and reflex foam. Pocket springs offer, on average, better support and better durability, lasting longer than competitors. Slumberland has core parts of their lineup dedicated to orthopaedic support which will prove ideal for those looking for additional back and neck support. In terms of firmness, we see a variety of different tensions that will ensure there is something for everyone in the lineup. Recommendations typically see those with back or neck pain navigate toward firmer mattresses, accompanied by back sleepers and heavier weighted people. For those who sleep on their side or are of lower to average weight should perhaps consider a medium tension mattress. With support, it’s all relative and subjective to each person, so consider each mattress on its own individual merit before purchase.

Slumberland durability

When it comes to durability, Slumberland makes some impressive strides with their lineup. Thanks to the pocket spring support layer you get a better base layer acting as a foundation for everything that sits above. What separates Slumberland from many other manufacturers is that every bed and mattress in the lineup comes with an 8 year guarantee. The guarantee is a testament to the manufacturer's belief in the product they are selling and how long it will typically last. Lots of the industry relies on a 1 year guarantee and helps demonstrate the level of quality offered within Slumberland mattresses.

DreamCloud owner satisfaction

Most DreamCloud owners are pleased with what they bought. Comfort is what they talk about most, and plenty say a bad back got better: one owner wrote "My back pain has literally never returned since buying this mattress", another "After a week or so my back pain felt better". Firmness is the commonest complaint. Some find it harder than they expected, side sleepers with sore hips in particular, and one "needed to add a topper to this mattress as it was too firm when lying on my side". A smaller group say the opposite and call theirs too soft.

Temperature splits owners. One wrote "It keeps me cooler than my previous mattress", while another said "The mattress get very hot in night". The edges split them as well: "Really comfy and retains shape at the edges" from one owner, "The edges are too soft" from another. Returns and refunds are behind a lot of the lowest ratings. One owner who took a partial refund found it ended the option to send the mattress back, and wrote "What has been most disappointing is the returns process."

DreamCloud supportiveness

DreamCloud mattresses are celebrated for their exceptional support, achieved through a thoughtful combination of premium materials. The hybrid design incorporates individually wrapped coils that respond to your body's movements, offering targeted pressure relief and promoting proper spinal alignment. These coils are complemented by layers of memory foam, which contour to your body, providing both comfort and support. This synergy ensures a balanced sleep experience, catering to various sleeping positions and preferences.

DreamCloud durability

DreamCloud mattresses feature a quilted polyester/rayon blend cover that offers a luxurious and breathable surface. This high-quality cover enhances comfort while contributing to the mattress's overall durability. Reviews from owners a few years in go both ways. One, around five years on, wrote "it is still as comfortable as the day we bought it". Others describe a dip forming where they sleep, and one wrote of an indent in the middle: "They sent someone to measure but as less than 4cm they refused to replace or refund." The hybrid construction of DreamCloud mattresses combines memory foam and pocketed coils, providing a balance of comfort and support that rivals traditional mattresses. Considering that the average mattress lasts about 7 years, we have no concerns regarding the performance and durability of the current DreamCloud lineup.

Before purchasing this Benson's mattress (<a href="http://bensonsforbeds.co.uk" target="_blank">bensonsforbeds.co.uk</a>), I discovered that the firmness of a mattress should be determined by a person's weight and sleeping position. There are many guides on the internet about this, such as sleepfoundation/best-mattress/mattress-firmness I am approx. 168 lbs in weight and a side sleeper, so I was very confident a good quality mattress which was medium firmness would be the best firmness for me. I am not disappointed with the Slumberland Natural Solutions 2000 medium firmness mattress. It is very comfortable although it feels much harder than my old mattress which was 17 years old and completely worn out. I chose the Natural Solutions 2000 mattress as it has natural fillings which are more breathable than foam layer mattresses. These natural fillings allow body heat to dissipate more efficiently than foam layered mattresses. This was very important to me as I live in a very well insulated building in a 1st floor flat, which also receives a lot of direct sunlight through the windows throughout the day and I tend to be a slightly 'hot' sleeper. I have not felt too warm in bed during August 2023 with my new Naturals mattress. The Slumberland Natural Solutions 2000 is also very good value for money when compared with other similar mattresses on the internet. The outer material feels high quality and so do the pocket springs when lying on them. It has 2000 pocket springs which helps isolate any movement a sleeping partner might make which helps to aid a good night's sleep, especially if someone sleeps with a 'restless' sleeper. Kyle was the friendly and helpful salesperson who I saw at Benson's showroom in Yeovil. I recommend the Slumberland Natural Solutions 2000 Medium Firmness mattress and Benson's showroom in Yeovil :)

Albeit expensive, what an absolutely fantastic mattress. We tried a few in the store (Llandudno) and were given loads of different tips, advice, and guidance, but this one really stood it for us in terms of quality, comfort, and price. We bought this alongside a King-sized ottoman and we could not be happier. Having used this mattress for just over two weeks, it's somewhat hard to believe, but we have slept-through the night every single night since we bought it, which isn't common for us! It is ridiculously comfortable, and just gets comfier the longer you lie on it. There is plenty of room to lie in comfort without disturbing the other person, and it doesn't seem to get too hot at night either. Despite the 1-star reviews - which I 100% disagree with - we have tried and tried to replicate the 'rolling over disturbs the other person' claim but it's just not true! The mattress seems to give a perfect balance when rolling over, and when awake or asleep, you can barely feel it. Once you're lying down, you just get comfier and you tend to stay in the same position without gettimg achey or fidgety which is great. I am a side-sleeper, and other half is a front-sleeper, and we adore this mattress. It suits us both perfectly. Our main concerns are that it is quite a tall mattress, so feels quite high off the ground/our bedside table at times (especially with our ottoman bedfeame), and extra deep fitted sheets only just cover the mattress on each side. We also just have a mattress topper, but are considering getting a full mattress cover (i.el wrap around the whole thing) instead, just to protect it that little bit more around the edges.

I wanted to use the mattress for a while before posting a review so after having slept on it for 2 months …. - woke up after the first night and realised I got up without backpain. I have a crushed vertebrae and most mornings I ache so this was a good start. 60 nights later I have also discovered that if I have back pain after a day I go to bed and I wake up with less pain so the mattress is definitely aiding my aches very well. - I suffer from insomnia and yet again since having bought this mattress I have been sleeping so well that even those nights are getting less and less. When I do have sleepless nights it is so comfortable it doesn't bother me to lay awake and just listen to some relaxing music. I have medium firmness by the way. The one thing I have noticed is that the topper is not holding its shape all that well. It's only me using the mattress so that's a bit of a concern at the moment and something I will need to watch as the months go by. But after a lifetime of mattresses and back pain and sleepless nights this is the one and only mattress that so far has aided that THE BEST. Definitely worth buying if you have struggled with some of the same issues I have.

I've had this mattress coming up to 3 years and it's the biggest mistake ever. It was amazing at first, I bought a form as I'm a stomach sleeper. Now I wake up multiple times in the night with back back as it dips in the middle.. apparently this is perfectly normal. It is apparently supposed to mould into your body, no it does not. It dips in the middle. I honestly this there is a design fault with the memory foam but Bensons for beds will never admit to this. I emailed bensons for beds customer service and the advice I received was to sleep on the edges to help flappen it down so it's more even. This isn't even a joke , I have the emails, I was told how I should sleep and what positions. I sleep alone and have down since I bought this bed, I'm not over weight either, that shouldn't even matter if I was over weight, I can't imagine how bad this mattress would be if it was getting bounced on regularly. I'm 5ft2 and 9st so for it to dip in the middle is absurd. I've had a mattress technician around today to measure it and do some test on it. I'm under no illusions bensons for beds are going to tell me it's all perfectly normal. Well it's not perfectly normal. I bought a memory foam topper hoping this would help but it hasn't. They told me I wasn't turning it enough. Wrong - I turned it every 3 weeks, now I'm doing it weekly.. The excuses they will make up to tell you this is normal for a mattres.. Well no it is not, I had a silent night memory foam for 10 years prior and not a single problem with that. Looks like I'll be buying another mattress as I know I can't carry on sleeping on this, I don't look forward to going to bed as I wake up multiple times. And how do I know it's the mattress keeping me awake? Well I've been away for 2 weeks and it was the best nights sleep I've had in a very long time as the mattress was amazing and I didn't get a back ache once. So please let my experience be a warning, there are loads of amazing mattresses out there, please don't waste your money on this. I'm not looking into getting a new mattress.

I loved this mattress in store. It was delightfully firm and supportive, while also being really comfortable and seemed like it would offer me the support I really wanted and solve the aches and discomfort I was experiencing with the mattress I had at the time. It was notably more than I intended to spend, but it was on offer and I felt it would be a worthwhile investment. I wish I hadn't bothered. I really wish I'd just gone for a much cheaper mattress from an online store. I think the quality would have been comparable, the cost a lot less, and the delivery much faster. Within a few weeks, despite turning the mattress as required every wee (and boy, is this mattress heavy) it had developed a noticeable dip. When I took photos of this dip and sent it to Bensons, I was told this was normal, did not look like a fault and therefore I could not get a refund. I was offered to exchange my mattress under the 40 night guarantee, but told that I would have to pay 10 percent of my original purchase price to do so, and pay another delivery charge of £49. Also, because my mattress had been on sale when I ordered it, if I simply chose the same mattress again (in the hopes this was just a faulty mattress) I'd have to pay the difference of several hundred pounds. I pressed the issue, and a technician was sent out to see if the product was faulty. He was very nice and empathised with my frustrations, but he said, according to Bensons, this type of dipping, even within weeks (and despite it causing me back pain) was considered acceptable. I understand that some settling is normal, but a dip of over 1cm (nearly 1.5cm) in under 3 weeks? That's not acceptable to me. Especially not at this rice point. It's very noticeable when lying on the 'edge' of the dip, and I can feel myself rolling in to it. I'm just really disappointed. The pre-sale service I received in store was great, but the product is clearly not of an acceptable quality, and the after-purchase customer service was very poor. I have attached the photo of the dip so you can see for yourselves.

I did an awful lot of research into this mattress before deciding to buy. I was suffering from hip and back pain after a nights sleep and my sleep was being disturbed and I concluded that the DreamCloud would help - off course I could not try it out first but was aware of the class leading return option of 365 days so felt reassured. On arrival and because of Covid my mattress was delivered to my doorstep and as it was Kingsize and though it was shrink wrapped it was neither small nor light and took two of us to get it upstairs. We opened the box at both ends and lifted it off the DreamCloud which we then lifted onto the bed. The box contains a cutting tool to help you remove the shrink wrap and once you break the seal there will be a loud hissing noise as air is sucked into the mattress as it begins to expand - two of us kept cutting away the shrink wrap as it expanded and note that before you begin this process it is not easy to determine if your DreamCloud will be upside down. As we continued to cut away and remove the packaging the mattress continued to expand quite quickly. Our mattress was the right way up so once unpackaged we opened a window to let it air and left it unmade for several hours to give it as much time as possible to expand. They say some brands of shrink wrap mattress give off a nasty smell once opened but that was certainly not the case with the DreamCloud. It was probably 7 hours before we made the bed up for sleep and it looked almost fully expanded though it would continue to expand over the next couple of days. They say you have to give any new mattress a good few days of use before you can begin to appreciate it (or not) and I have to admit that at first I felt it was no better than our old mattress and this was worrying. At 11stone in weight I felt the DreamCloud was quite firm whether I lay on my back, stomach or side and it was noticeably deeper than our old mattress at 29cm and firm all the way to the edges and I was still in pain. I was honestly thinking of sending it back. Three months on and I am very happy with the DreamCloud and I have no pain at all when I wake up and I am certain the DreamCloud is a big part of the reason. It still feels quite firm so I feel I am on not in the mattress so it is easy to change sleeping position. My partner is also happy. In terms of roll together it is not an issue so your comfort is not reliant on your partner and if they move it does not disturb you unless perhaps you are very close when you might notice. At three months they advise turning the mattress (not over, but round so the head end is at the feet end) and I easily managed this on my own using the grab handles that are not flimsy. So in summary I am glad I did my research and I am happy with the DreamCloud. Note that we have a slatted bed and my research highlighted that the slats were too far apart at 5 inches so whilst waiting for delivery I measured up and ordered plywood panels which I placed on top of the slats in readiness for my DreamCloud.

After hours and hours of trying to find the right mattress online I decided on this brand, I bought the - Double DreamCloud luxury hybrid mattress. Wow, I'm so glad I did, I suffered a serious motorcycle accident many years ago, suffered a serious spinal injury and for the last 2 years or so I've only been able to sleep on my left side, I was struggling, I happened to mention it to my Dr, he replied, it could be your mattress, it may not be supporting your body correctly and your posture could be all wrong. After he told me that, I thought I've got to try a really good quality mattress then, so, like I say I did alot of research on these types of mattress, this company had really good reviews and the cost to be honest was a lot lower than other top brands out there. So, the mattress came, it is very heavy, we unrolled it and left it a good 36 hrs, the wife walked on it, as it states doing that releases it too. The 1st night, my body wasn't use to it, I did sleep, but as before still only on my left side, i usually sleep with 2 pillows, but the 3rd night, I threw 1 on the floor, I didn't need it, by night 5 or 6 i woke up in the morning on my right side, wow, i havn't woke up on my right for years, no pain! It's been a few weeks now since we got it, I am now able to sleep on whatever side I want, no pain, no waking up with muscle spasms, this mattress is brilliant! honestly, It has changed my life! I wake up with no pain, no lack of quality sleep. Just wish I'd bought it years ago. The wife loves it too, she doesn't want to get up :) lol. The mattress moulds to your body with a firm but comforting feel, Honestly, if your looking to buy one, you won't be disappointed, best nights sleep ever! 5 star mattress 5* service too!!

I initially had a Dreamcloud Mattress at the end of 2023. From Day 1 it was comfortable and no problems with the settling in period these Companies talk about. After about a month, I noticed that a hollow had started to form where I slept and the side of the mattress had become rather soft and no longer supported me when sitting on the edge of the bed to dress. Being disabled, that is the only place I can sit comfortably to dress as I don’t have any chairs in the house. Over the following month, the sag on the side of the mattress got worse and I am far from being a heavy person. I got to the point where I started sliding off the mattress whilst trying to dress. Hence before the 100 day trial was up, I returned the mattress as being unsuitable. Over the following 6 months I tried 3 other Mattresses. All the sales demonstrators talked about how comfortable, soft and supportive they were, which if you laid on your back they were. But in reality, I am a side sleeper and as soon as I turned on to my side, it was like trying to sleep on a sheet of metal. You could feel the Springs digging into your shoulders. By the time I had got to trying the third Mattress, I was now in real pain with my shoulders and neck and was now just hurting when I went to bed. All 3 beds were classed as Medium Firm, just as the Dreamcloud, but non of them gave me one decent night’s sleep. I got to the stage where I was dreading having to go to Bed; despite how tired I was. These were not Cheap Mattresses, 2 of which were twice the price of the Dreamcloud and all were well known Brands. In desperation, I decided to go back to the Dreamcloud. After all, despite the hollow and sliding off the edge, I was sleeping reasonably well. The new Dreamcloud arrived and I was looking forward to my first night’s decent sleep in over 6 months. However, that was not the case and unlike the first time I tried a Dreamcloud Mattress, it took 3 nights before I managed to get any sleep. This mattress; unlike the first one, seems a little firmer and after 7 weeks there are no signs of dipping/hollows. Any pain felt in my shoulders when I turn onto my side is a result of muscle strain/damage from using the other 3 mattresses and is gradually starting to ease. It will take some time, but this mattress is not adding to it. PS not given it 5 stars as I am waiting a little longer to see if it dips.

Absolutely the most awful, problematic brand I’ve ever bought from. I purchased the mattress bundle, it came with the platform bed, two pillows, mattress protector, duvet and duvet cover set all in white. The delivery itself was straight forward and easy enough, the single items were delivered separately from the mattress. The mattress arrived a couple of days after. Straight away I was surprised at the low quality bed frame. But I went along with it as there would be no excuses if I had a matching mattress with the same brand bedframe. So I let the mattress breathe for almost 4 days in order to make sure it was fully plump and ready to sleep on. The bedding set I must say feels very very nice. But that’s it. The mattress is nice enough as it’s very thick and high but it’s too soft but the borders of the mattress it’s more rigid and firm so if you’re sharing a bed you’ll have a part on your side that’s different than the rest of the mattress. The duvet and the pillows are the most awful quality I’ve ever encounter. The duvet has thick scratchy borders that if gets caught on skin causes major discomfort and the pillows is of very cheap filling, cut into tiny pieces bits of foam, almost looks like what is left over stuffed together inside a thin see through cotton lining. The cover is thick and uncomfortable and has some thick scratchy fabric running through the middle around the whole mattress so very uncomfortable. Needless to say I contacted customer service and explained I’d want to return the bed frame pillows and duvet and they sent me a copy and paste message about the comfort of the mattress. I then had to resent the email asking them to READ my email because they clearly didn’t understand my request. They told me to persevere with the mattress and the other items were not returnable. A few months pass by and I ask them to return the mattress as I was unhappy. This was straight forward and it was arranged quickly. A few weeks later I started to notice small bits of foam scattered around my bedroom floor. Upon inspection it was basically the pillows falling apart. I since then asked for a refund. The last few days I’ve been noticing a sinking feeling when I’m laying down in my new mattress (which was also one of the reasons I wanted to return the dream clouds as it was sinking through the middle), and I checked the platform bed to be shocked yet again that the middle beam that holds the slats together were SO loose, from the middle metal legas that I’ve had enough with this company. I’m so tired of having to contact these people to sort these issues out. plus dream cloud is just the mattress. The other items are NECTAR branded. What is going on dream cloud? Why are you selling such cheap awful products on your website? The only think you should be selling is the bedding set which is nice but the rest I have to say the quality is simply appalling.

DO NOT BUY FROM DREAMCLOUD!! If I could I would give them negative stars. It has been a nightmare dealing with them, specifically management. I bought two single mattresses which were delivered on 30.08.24 and after 8 nights of sleep it was confirmed they were uncomfortable, too warm, tilted to one side, sagged in the middle and provided no support as claimed on their website. I contacted them for a full refund for both mattresses on 9th of Sept. They tried to offer a 60% discount on both or one of the mattresses which I refused due to both being very uncomfortable to sleep on. I was given confirmation of a return and refund being accepted via the phone and by email once the two mattresses were collected. However, a day later they back tracked saying a return was not possible for both mattresses given their policy of one item return per household. At no point was I informed about this via the initial phone calls or emails between myself and Dreamcloud, which they later claimed that I was. They have recordings of all calls so they know that during our conversations a refund was agreed for both mattresses. After receiving the email to say the return and refund of both mattresses is no longer possible, I called and spoke to them again and was reassured there was a mistake on their side and that the collection had been booked for both mattresses and I just had to wait to be contacted by their collection team and not to worry and once it was collected I would receive a full refund for both mattresses. The person who confirmed this said she will contact me back and clear up the misunderstanding on their side. Again, they emailed back saying management is refusing the refund for both mattresses even though it had been finalized and collection was booked. Today I was advised the only way to get a refund is to make a formal complaint to the management team and wait for a reply. It has only been 11 days and the mattresses are uncomfortable, warm, it tilts on one side so you feel you are sinking more to the right side, it sags in the middle and provides no support. Compared to the old mattresses which we have had for years, this feels worse. Do not buy from DreamCloud, do not fall for their false advertising regarding how comfortable, supporting and breathable the mattress claims to be. The customer service team are professional but were unable to solve this issue which is worrying if you are planning to keep your mattress for the whole 365 days trial period that claim a refund is possible. Also, beware if you are buying more than one mattress or item their policy states you can only refund one per household, regardless of how long you have had the item or if it is uncomfortable or fit for purpose. This policy makes no sense as more than one person lives in house hold so if you are buy more than one mattress or other items you will only be able to refund one even if more than one are faulty and do not match what they have claimed and advertised on their website. DO NOT BUY from DreamCloud, I cannot stress enough how much I regret purchasing from this company.
