Why our sleep experts loved it
I came to the Flexisleep Gel Pocket 1000 Adjustable Bed Mattress the way many people do, by scanning specs and real customer feedback, and trying to judge whether it will behave in a real bedroom, not a showroom. I should be clear upfront. I have not been able to test this in person because Archers is in Scotland, and I have not trialled it at home either. So this is a spec led review, grounded in a decade of mattress work, plus the context of what buyers tend to praise and complain about with similar builds.
Design and features
On paper, this is a sensible, no nonsense adjustable mattress. You get 1000 pocket springs as the support core, then 25mm Air Lite comfort foam and 25mm Gel Flex foam on top, all finished in a soft stretch knit cover with a quilted surface. That is a tidy stack. And for an adjustable bed, that matters, because overly thick foam slabs or stiff borders can fight the profiling action over time.
The part I like most is the independent pocket spring system paired with a high density foam border. Good pocket springs do the unglamorous job properly, they take load point by point, they respond to shape, and they reduce knock on movement. The foam border should also make it feel more usable right to the edge, which is often what adjustable owners want, especially if you sit on the side to dress or swing your legs round.
But I am not going to pretend 1000 springs is top tier. It is not. At this count you can still get decent contouring, yet heavier bodies, or anyone wanting very precise zoning, may find it a little basic. The upside is that simpler spring units often feel more consistent, and they can be good value if the rest of the build is honest.
Mattress comfort
This should land in soft to medium comfort, with a gentle hug. The gel foam layer is the headline, and in my experience gel infused foams can genuinely take the edge off heat build up. It is not air con. It is just less stuffy than standard memory style comfort layers. The Air Lite foam under it suggests a more responsive feel too, which usually helps you change position without feeling stuck.
What I would be slightly sceptical about is how cool it stays once you add a protector, a deep fitted sheet, and a warmer duvet. That is where many cooling claims fall down in real homes. Still, as a spec choice, gel plus a breathable knit cover is one of the better routes at this price level.
Suitability
I would actively point this at side sleepers who like a soft medium tension. The foam depth is enough to allow some sink at the shoulder and hip, and that can be a big deal for lower BMI sleepers who do not compress firmer spring units properly. And if you have an hourglass figure, that extra compliance can help reduce pressure points without losing all support underneath.
For back sleepers it may work if you like a slightly plusher top feel, but if you need a firmer, flatter surface to keep your lumbar settled, I would be cautious. For higher BMI stomach sleepers, I would not make this my first pick, because too much give at the front of the body can encourage swayback, and that is a fast route to morning stiffness.
From the customer review context that typically comes with builds like this, the positives tend to be comfort straight away, reduced partner disturbance, and a nicer edge than expected. The negatives are usually about it feeling softer than imagined, or not being as cooling as the marketing suggests. I think both are believable.
The verdict
If you need adjustable compatibility, this is a strong contender. The market for adjustable friendly mattresses is not as wide as it should be, and this one has a coherent design that makes sense. Pocket springs for support, modest foam layers for pressure relief, gel for temperature moderation, and a reinforced edge for confidence. I like the package.
My blunt take is that 1000 springs is the ceiling on how refined it can feel, but it is also what keeps it in a reasonable price bracket. If you want an adjustable mattress that should sleep comfortably cool, feel gently contouring, and not wobble when your partner moves, you could do a lot worse.
