A king size has 2000 pocket springs plus 1000 micro springs, giving the advertised 3000 total, and the first part of that matters far more to me. The pocket springs are doing the real work. The micro springs sound useful on a ticket, yet I did not feel a distinct benefit from them while lying on the mattress. A bit of showroom theatre.
This is still a serious mattress. The stitching looked tidy, the edges felt properly braced, and the natural comfort layer had a breathable feel that I preferred to the denser foam feel of many boxed hybrids. It is also expensive for a Furniture Village exclusive, even with the 20-year guarantee helping the value case. At this level I would want to try the Hypnos Winslow Luxury Wool as well, since Hypnos tends to deliver a very assured traditional feel in the same broad category.
A tall, traditional build
The 31 cm depth is the first practical issue. It gives the mattress a grand, hotel-style profile on the bed, but it also creates sheet faff. Standard fitted sheets may ping off the corners, so extra deep fitted sheets are probably needed. That is not a glamorous buying point, yet it is exactly the sort of irritation people discover after delivery.
Furniture Village has put some useful details into the build. There are 2 rows of hand side stitching, a double steel-framed edge support system, 5 handles, and a single-sided design, so it needs rotating but not flipping. The handle count is welcome because the weights are not trivial: single 30 kg, small double 40 kg, double 45 kg, king 52 kg, and super king 62 kg. Moving the larger sizes alone would be a mistake.
The care rules deserve attention. It needs airing for 4 hours before use, and the springs should be given at least 4 hours to settle and reach full size. On a slatted base, gaps must be no wider than 7.5 cm or the guarantee can be affected. Small print, big consequence.
Comfort, tension and that spring count
The comfort layer uses English cotton and Hampshire wool, and that combination felt like the nicest part of the mattress during my visit. It had a dry, airy feel under the cover, helped by the absence of that slow, warm memory-foam hug. I could not judge overnight heat from a showroom lie-down, mind you. A hot August night would be a better test of the cooling claims than ten minutes under shop lighting.
The Smooth-Tech™ fabric felt smooth enough, though I would not buy the mattress for the cover name. The internal tufting gives it a firmer, pulled-together surface, and that suits the traditional construction. The 7-zone support story is harder to prove with your shoes off in a shop. I felt support through the centre and decent pressure control on the medium, but I would not pretend to detect seven separate zones mapping my body.
The firm version is the risky one. It has a very held-up feel, good for posture in the right body type, awkward for pressure relief in the wrong one. The medium felt the better balanced option to me for side and back sleeping. The firm may impress during a quick test because it feels substantial. After a full night, that same firmness could become the problem.
Best match by sleeping position
Back sleepers get the clearest benefit from this mattress, particularly in firm tension. The support through the hips felt steady, with no obvious dipping at the edge when I sat and shifted weight. Some stomach sleepers may also like it, provided they already know they get on with a hard surface.
Side sleepers should slow down before buying the firm model. Hips and shoulders need room to sink, and this version does not give much away. Side sleepers with an hourglass shape are the group I would be most cautious about, because pressure can build quickly at the shoulder. The medium is the safer test route.
Couples may appreciate the reinforced perimeter, since it makes the usable surface feel wider. Partner movement is not something I can prove from an in-store trial. Pocket springs usually cope better here than open-coil designs, but two people should lie on it together before committing, preferably in the tension they plan to buy.
The buying decision
I would only choose the firm tension for a dedicated back sleeper who wants a robust, traditional mattress and has already ruled out softer wool-filled models. For most buyers looking at the Village Luxury 2850, the medium is the one to try first. The build is good, the natural fillings are a plus, and the 20-year guarantee carries weight, but the 1000 micro springs should not be the reason anyone pays the premium.
