I tested the ClimaCool 5500 Mattress in person in a Furniture Village showroom. It feels expensive under the body, and it should, because this is being sold as a premium hybrid. My scepticism starts with the headline spring count. In king size it has 5500 pocket springs, and at that number the extra count is usually coming from thin micro spring layers over the main support unit. They can help the mattress shape around the body, but full-size pocket springs already do that job when the core is well made.
The stronger part of the design is the comfort layer. There is 8 cm of ClimaCool foam, and that is enough to change the whole character of the mattress. My hip and shoulder dropped in quickly during side testing, so this is a cushioned, enveloping bed from the first minute. Buyers wanting a flatter pocket-sprung feel may find it a bit too deep in the top.
Construction notes from the showroom
The 35 cm depth gives the mattress a bulky, high-end look on the bed base. It also raises practical questions: sheet depth, finished bed height and ease of handling. The listed weights are not light, from 48 kg in single up to 72 kg in super king, with the king at 57 kg. Since it is single-sided, you avoid flipping it, but regular rotation remains part of the care routine.
The knitted fabric cover felt smooth to the hand, and the fillings are CertiPUR certified. I could not judge long-term cover wear from a display model. That matters here because a tall, heavy mattress will take some dragging and twisting during rotation, and showroom fabric rarely tells you how it will cope after years of sheet changes.
The base guidance is worth taking seriously. Slatted frames need gaps no wider than 7.5 cm, otherwise excess dipping may occur and the guarantee position can be affected. With this much foam above the springs, poor base support would be a daft way to ruin an expensive mattress.
Comfort, support and heat
Furniture Village rates it as medium, and that felt broadly right to me. The surface has a plush initial give, then the spring unit starts doing the stabilising underneath. Side sleeping was its best showing in store. The shoulder area softened nicely, and there was no sharp pressure under the outer hip.
Back sleeping was pleasant for a short lie-down, yet I would pause before putting a heavier stomach sleeper on it. The pelvis can settle into the foam, and that may lead to a slightly hammocked posture over time. Edge support was much better than I expected from a foam-heavy hybrid. Sitting on the side, it held its shape well, useful for anyone who uses the mattress edge to stand up or get dressed.
The cooling claim needs challenging. The foam uses phase-change material and carbon, and the pocket spring core should let air move through the mattress. In practice, I still felt noticeably warm because my body was sinking into a thick foam layer. A showroom test cannot replicate a humid summer night, but I would not buy this purely for temperature control.
Who should try it
Side sleepers are the clearest match. The ClimaCool 5500 gives enough pressure relief for shoulders and hips without making the edge feel weak. Compared with the Simba Hybrid Luxe, this felt slower and more enveloping in store, while the Simba has a livelier feel when changing position.
Mobility is the catch. Turning over takes more effort than it does on a flatter, firmer hybrid, because the body sits into the comfort layer. People with stiff hips, reduced strength or difficulty getting out of bed should spend proper time lying on it in store. A quick sit on the corner will flatter it.
Couples should get decent motion control from the spring and foam combination, although partner disturbance needs nights at home to assess properly. The care notes also state that indentations from settlement or body weight are normal, so buyers expecting a permanently level surface should reset that expectation from day one.
Final take
The ClimaCool 5500 is a very good premium mattress, with strong pressure relief and convincing edge support. The spring count does not impress me as much as the foam depth and general build. I also think the price point sits a little high, even with the quality of the components. At this level, I would try the Hypnos Winslow Luxury Wool before deciding, particularly for anyone who runs warm at night.
My own buying decision would come down to movement. For a side sleeper who likes a held, cushioned feel, it earns a place on the shortlist. For easy turning and a cooler surface, I would keep testing other beds.
