Why our sleep experts loved it
I saw the Zanetti End Lift Ottoman Bed Frame in store and came away unconvinced. The headboard does look good, I will give it that. In the deep blue fabric it has real presence, with padded panels, buttoning and slim side wings that make it feel a step up from plainer ottoman frames. Lovely in blue. The problem is the leap in price against the Dior end ottoman bed we reviewed previously. Around £600 extra for a slightly nicer headboard is a poor trade for most bedrooms.
Furniture Village describes this as a bed with a “wow factor”. In the showroom, that depends heavily on the colour. Deep blue was easily the one I would choose. The deep green looked disappointing under store lighting and showed fingerprints too readily, so I would avoid it unless you have seen that exact fabric in person and still like it. On a large upholstered bed, the colour is not a small detail. It dominates the room.
How it looks in the room
The Zanetti has a full-height upholstered headboard that runs to the floor, and that is where most of the money appears to have gone. The pillow-effect cushioning gives it a soft, hotel-style look, while the hidden hardwood feet create a slight floating impression. Slight is the word. This is still a big upholstered ottoman, and in a modest room it will not fade into the background.
The fabric finish felt pleasant enough to the hand, although showroom fabric is a poor guide to six months of daily contact, sunlight and cleaning. I could see enough on the green display to be cautious. Regular vacuuming with a soft brush or curtain attachment is advised, and spills need quick attention. Oil and grease marks may need professional cleaning. That care burden matters on a bed frame over £1,000.
Lift, base and build details
This is an end-opening ottoman, so access is from the foot of the bed. That layout is handy where bedside tables block the sides, and the storage space will suit spare duvets, pillows and bulky bedding. The platform top includes ventilation, a useful touch for airflow under the mattress, although I would not buy this bed for that feature alone.
The hydraulic lift worked smoothly during my in-store test, and the safety bar is sensible. A showroom lift with no bedding piled on top is the easy version of the job, mind you. The frame has stated maximum mattress weights of 50 kg for a double, 65 kg for a king and 70 kg for a super king. Check your mattress before ordering, as a heavy hybrid can push these mechanisms closer to their comfort zone than you might expect.
The frame is made with sustainable wood, according to the spec, and the construction looked tidy from the areas I could inspect. I could not properly judge long-term hinge wear or how the gas lift will behave after years of use. That is the limitation of a store test, and it is worth saying on an ottoman where the moving parts are central to the product.
Who should consider it
Sizes cover double, king and super king, with the mattress sold separately. Add a decent mattress and the total spend climbs quickly. Ottoman beds commonly cost extra because of the storage mechanism, so the idea of a premium frame is not surprising. This particular premium still feels overcooked.
The Zanetti makes the most sense for someone who has fallen for the deep blue version and wants an upholstered statement bed with hidden storage. Even then, I would compare it directly with the Dior end ottoman before paying the difference. The Dior is not as plush at the headboard, yet the saving is large enough to put towards a better mattress, bedding or delivery costs.
My buying decision
I would personally pass on it. The strongest argument for the Zanetti is visual, and visual upgrades need to work harder at this price. The side wings also mean you should measure carefully around sockets, skirting and bedside furniture before committing, because a bed that looks elegant in a showroom can become awkward once it meets a real wall.
