The Village Inspire 4850 Mattress looks convincing on the shop floor. It has the depth, tufting and heavy traditional feel that make people stop and think, yes, this must be the premium one. I had the same first reaction for a moment. Then the spring specification started doing what spring specifications often do: making a simple mattress sound cleverer than it felt under me.
Furniture Village lists this as a pocket spring mattress with 1000 pocket springs and 3000 micro springs in king size. The “4850” name and the “4000 springs” wording pull your eye towards the larger number, yet the main support system is the 1000 pocket spring unit. That matters. Micro springs can add a bit of surface movement and cushioning. My back did not feel a jump into luxury support from them. The mattress feels good, just not as advanced as the number on the ticket suggests.
The spring count and build quality
The physical finish is certainly above basic retail stock. It is 33 cm deep, single-sided, made in the UK by hand, and offered in single, small double, double, king and super king. You can choose medium or firm support; I tested the firm. The spec also includes a seven-zone layout, internal tufting and a Smooth-Tech™ cover. That cover felt neat and tidy in store, although I would not buy this purely on the promise of “targeted” support. The zoning was not obvious enough under my shoulder to make me forget the modest pocket spring core.
The filling blend is the part I liked most: English cotton, Hampshire wool, silk and cashmere. The surface had a properly padded feel, with no springy harshness coming through. Good start. The care notes then bring you back down to earth, because settlement of fillings and body impressions are treated as normal. A showroom test cannot show how much that top padding will compress after a year of use, and on a mattress priced over £1,000 that is exactly the sort of thing I would want to know.

Feel on the firm tension
On my back, the firm model made its best argument. My hips stayed lifted, the wool-rich top softened the first contact, and the mattress avoided that hollowed-out sensation you get from cheaper foam-heavy beds. It has a steady, traditional feel. Quite calm, actually.
Side lying exposed the compromise. My hip was cushioned by the upper fillings, then stopped fairly quickly by the firmer structure below. My shoulder had a similar reaction. Fine for a quick roll across the bed, not so persuasive for someone who spends most of the night on one side. The firm tension may be sold with pressure relief language, but I did not feel enough give to call it friendly for curvier side sleepers.
Compared with the Hypnos Winslow Luxury Wool, this Village model feels similarly traditional in its use of tufting and natural fibres. Hypnos tends to give me a clearer sense that the support unit is earning the money; the Inspire 4850 leans harder on upholstery, spring-count presentation and showroom plushness.
Best suited to back and front sleepers
Back sleepers are the clearest match for the firm version. The mattress keeps the body in a flatter line and gives enough surface comfort to stop it becoming severe. Some stomach sleepers may also appreciate the firmer feel, since it should help reduce pelvic dip.
Side sleepers, especially those with an hourglass shape, should take longer on it in store. That body shape needs the hip and shoulder to sink cleanly, and this model did not give me that impression. The medium tension could be worth trying for mixed sleepers, although I only physically assessed the firm tension.
Where I would spend my money
I would not pay over £1,000 for the Village Inspire 4850 Mattress unless the firm version happened to fit me perfectly after testing it against alternatives. At that price, I would put the Winslow on the same shortlist and compare the support feel directly. The Furniture Village mattress has a lovely top layer and decent edge presence, then asks you to accept a marketing-heavy spring story.
