The Village Inspire 2850 made a better first impression than a lot of showroom mattresses in this price band. I tried the medium tension in person, and it felt composed: no obvious spring jab, no hollow dip at the edge. The name is doing a bit of sales work, though. Buyers may read “2850” and assume a very high full pocket spring count. That is not the construction being described.
In king size, the listed spring unit is 1,000 pocket springs plus 1,000 micro springs. The micro springs count towards the bigger number, yet under body weight they felt more like a modest comfort helper than a major support feature. Under £1,000, I can live with that. At a four-figure ticket, I would be trying the Hypnos Winslow Luxury Wool before signing off.
How it is put together
This is a traditional feeling mattress: tufted top, natural upholstery, and a fairly substantial 29 cm depth. The filling blend is English cotton, Hampshire wool, silk and cashmere. Good materials, although the upper cushioning did not feel as deep as I wanted. I could not feel the springs through it, so this is not a comfort failure. It is simply not as plush as the ingredient list may lead you to expect.
The 7-zone support system was present without being intrusive. Some zoned mattresses feel oddly banded across the body. This one stayed fairly even through the hips and back during my trial. The Smooth-Tech™ cover felt neat under hand, but a showroom visit cannot prove heat control across a full night. A warm bedroom will be the real test there.
The edge was one of its stronger points. The double steel-framed support system gave the border a firmer feel when I sat near the side, and the 2 rows of hand side stitching helped the mattress look tidy rather than swollen. Alongside the Winslow, the Village Inspire 2850 feels flatter on top and easier to move across; the Winslow, with its layers of plush wool, should feel more enveloping.
Medium comfort in store
The medium tension suits side sleeping best. Shoulder pressure was handled well, and hip sink stayed controlled enough for an average-weight tester. I did not get that perched feeling that can happen with tufted natural-fill beds.
Back sleeping was acceptable in the showroom, although I would not automatically choose this tension for everyone. Average-weight back sleepers may be fine. Heavier back sleepers should compare the firm version, as the medium has a little give through the centre. Front sleepers should start with firm as well; the medium may allow the pelvis to sit too low over a full night.
Natural fillings settle, and Furniture Village states that indentations from settlement or body weight are normal rather than defects. That is worth taking seriously. A mattress can feel lovely on a shop floor and still look noticeably used once the wool and cotton have compressed. I could judge the first feel; I could not judge six months of body impressions from a short test.
Practical points before ordering
The depth means deep fitted sheets are the sensible choice. Standard sheets may fit badly once a protector is added. It is also a heavy mattress, so rotation needs two people in most homes.

The 5 handles help with rotation, but they do not turn a super king into an easy lift. Not a small job. The mattress is single-sided, so there is no flipping, and the care advice says to rotate it regularly. It also needs airing for 4 hours before use, then at least 4 hours for the springs to settle and the mattress to reach full size.
Slatted bases need a check before purchase. The maximum stated gap is 7.5 cm. Wider spacing can cause excess dipping and may invalidate the guarantee, so an old slatted frame could become an expensive weak point. Sizes available are single, small double, double, king and super king.
Where I land on it
I would shortlist the Village Inspire 2850 medium for an average-weight side sleeper who wants a British-made pocket spring mattress with natural fillings below £1,000. I would not buy it for the spring-count headline alone. The honest appeal is simpler: calm support, usable edges, and a medium feel that should suit plenty of side sleepers. My own reservation is the comfort depth. For a mattress talking up wool, silk and cashmere, I wanted a richer top layer.
