Otty

Otty is a British brand that started in 2017 and has grown quickly into one of the most recognised hybrid mattress names on the UK market. The company is based in Leeds and sells direct to the customer, cutting out the middle man in the traditional bed retail chain and passing the savings on in the form of long trial periods and sensible prices.

Their hybrid lineup pairs cooling gel infused memory foam with individually encased pocket springs, and it is the hybrid build that Otty is best known for. Every mattress ships vacuum packed in a box, and buyers get a 100 night home trial along with a 10 year guarantee.

Eve

Eve Sleep emerged in 2014 as a prominent online retailer specializing in mattresses and sleep accessories. The company gained recognition for its clever approach to mattress design and marketing, offering a range of products aimed at improving sleep quality. In 2022, Eve Sleep was acquired by Bensons for Beds, further solidifying its position in the sleep products market.

Eve Sleep's product lineup includes various mattress types, such as memory foam and hybrid models, catering to diverse sleep preferences. In particular, the company introduced the "Wunderflip" mattress, designed to offer two levels of firmness by simply flipping it over, allowing users to customize their sleep experience.  Eve Sleep provides a 200-night trial period, enabling customers to thoroughly test their mattresses.

Otty Owner Satisfaction

Otty mattresses sit at around 4.7 out of 5 across the review sites we track, which is close to the top of the hybrid category in the UK. Most of the praise focuses on two things: the genuinely cool feel, which comes from the breathable cover and the open spring layer, and the edge support, which is noticeably firmer than most foam rivals.

Couples tend to rate Otty higher than single sleepers, because the pocket springs absorb movement well and the firm edges mean nobody rolls towards the middle. The mattress is on the firmer side of medium, so side sleepers who want a very soft feel sometimes find it a little too supportive, but for most average weight sleepers the firmness works out just right.

Otty Supportiveness

The Otty Original Hybrid uses a top layer of cooling gel memory foam over a reflex foam transition layer and a core of pocket springs. Each spring moves independently, which is why the mattress copes well with two people of different weights sleeping side by side. The foam layers add enough pressure relief for the shoulders and hips, and the spring core keeps the lower back properly supported without letting anyone sink into a hammock shape.

For heavier sleepers over about 16 stone, Otty also makes the Pure Hybrid Plus, which has a reinforced spring unit and thicker comfort layers to stop the mattress bottoming out. In both models, the support level is one of the things owners consistently pick out as a strong point.

Otty Durability

Otty uses a high gauge spring unit and good quality foams above it, which is the right recipe for a mattress that holds its shape over the long run. The cover is removable and washable, which is unusual at this level of the market and helps the mattress stay fresh over the years.

Long term owners we have spoken to report very little sagging at the three and four year mark, and the 10 year guarantee gives a clear signal of how much life the brand expects out of its own product. Given the materials and the build, Otty mattresses are well positioned to last the seven to ten years that most buyers are looking for.

    Eve Owner Satisfaction

Satisfaction with Eve Sleep mattresses remains high, with a solid score at the time of writing. Many owners praise the balanced comfort and support, particularly in the brand’s hybrid models, which combine foam and pocket springs for a responsive yet cushioned feel. Unlike some all-foam mattresses, Eve’s construction helps to minimise heat retention, with breathable layers designed to promote airflow throughout the night. That said, a handful of users have noted that the firmer models can take some getting used to, especially for those accustomed to softer sleep surfaces.

When it comes to pressure relief and spinal alignment, Eve mattresses generally receive positive feedback, particularly from those with back issues. The medium-firm options tend to provide good lumbar support, while the softer models cater well to side sleepers who need more contouring. However, some users have mentioned that edge support isn’t as strong as they’d like, meaning there can be a slight dip when sitting on the side of the bed. Despite this, the overall consensus is that Eve Sleep delivers a well-balanced sleeping experience, blending comfort and support in a way that suits a wide range of sleepers.

    Eve Supportiveness

Eve Sleep mattresses are renowned for their exceptional support, attributed to the innovative use of high-quality foams and, in their hybrid models, full-sized pocket springs. The Original Hybrid Mattress, for instance, features over 800 individually wrapped 12 cm springs that respond to the body's movements, providing targeted pressure relief for the shoulders and hips. These springs are complemented by Eve's proprietary evecomfort® foam layer, which offers a springy feel to support key pressure points and maintain spinal alignment. This combination ensures a harmonious balance of support and body contouring, catering to various sleeping positions.

    Eve Durability

Eve Sleep mattresses feature polyester covers, known for their soft, stretchy, and breathable finish. This type of cover provides a reasonable level of durable protection, contributing to the overall longevity of the mattress. User feedback indicates general satisfaction with the expected lifespan, and while the Eve lineup is relatively new, the bed-in-a-box mattress market has established a reputation for durability comparable to traditional mattresses. Considering that the average mattress lasts about 7 years, we have no concerns regarding the performance and durability of the current Eve lineup.

The plush comfort yet firm support is really impressive. It must be due to the mixed layers of wool, silk, and cashmere along with the firm pocket-spring core. Truly, it is a good balance.

Really comfortable and noticeably cooler than my last mattress, definite improvement in my sleep quality. Unboxing was easy and it expanded to full size quickly.

Felt a marked improvement in sleep quality due to the firm yet comfy feel of this mattress. Especially appreciated how it stayed cool throughout warmer nights.

Really good product. It's made a difference to my sleep, no more waking up with a sore back. Comfortable yet very supportive. It's great value for money.

These really are very good mattresses! One of my main concerns was the reports and even some of Eve's own documentation regarding the new smell / odour of the mattress as from experience things that give off an odour tend to make me feel unwell pretty quickly, this mattress does give off an odour but apart from a slight headache on the first night it really hasn't affected me since. No the smell does not entirely disappear after 48 hours as some say, but it does get progressively better, make sure to air the room well and regularly, also move on the mattress to get air to pass through it... hopefully if you give this mattress a chance like us you'll find it very comfortable and super supportive, if this mattress can keep delivering this level of comfort and support for 10 years it will be money well spent. It is an expensive mattress though and I would have like to see a bit more attention to a few areas, the mattress has a removable washable cover and that's fantastic, but it means the handles are located under the mattress which means lifting the rather heavy mattress to access the handles, there needs to be a better solution here. We find the mattress firmness just right but others who try it think it would be too hard for them. Overall if this mattress does last out the 10 year guarantee period then I'll have to remember to come back to this review and give it the full five stars for Quality and Value For Money but for now it's too expensive and too new to go that far.

I wrote the following review on November 18th 2020 two weeks after using my Eve Sleep Hybrid mattress. Everything I said then still applies and I love the mattress. Brilliant product and fantastic sleep every night. I have been getting up every morning for nearly a year with back pain. Knowing I wanted a new mattress, searched the internet looking at all sorts of different products with varying prices. I looked at various reviews, but none seemed conclusive, so signed up for Which. A good move because Eve Sleep was not on my list. The review for the Premium Hybrid Mattress was exceptional. I ordered online, and the process was incredibly simple. It could not be better. Notifications of delivery were brilliant, and I even got a call 30 minutes before the delivery arrival. The guys were so good and polite. The mattress comes in a box, and the instructions give all the information in a truly clear manner on how to unpack and install on the bed. I left the mattress for 24 hours before using, although this is not necessary. I knew after the first night sleeping on the mattress, it was without any doubt a brilliant purchase. I have now been sleeping on my Eve Mattress for two weeks, and it is fantastic. I look forward to going to bed and do not want to get up in the morning. The whole experience from beginning to end has been exceptional. It is very reassuring to know there are still companies that give a faultless service and have a product to match.

We bought the original hybrid mattress double after reading Which reviews, it turned out to be a on the firm side for us so we returned it after around 50 nights. The customer service, ordering, delivery and return process was excellent. We are both mostly side sleepers, I experienced hip pain/pressure during the night and had to change position often and my husband just felt that it was too firm for him. We were still a little tired through the day and put it down to our personal discomfort in the end, the mattress was supportive and we had no back pains in the morning. I had ordered a replacement mattress so that we weren't left without anything to sleep on and contacted eve to return the original hybrid once we had a delivery date. The return process was hassle free and very efficient, we found that we were able to give three dates for the return and add any comments. In hindsight, knowing that the return was so well organised, we would have trialled the mattress for longer to see if it softened up a little or we adjusted to it more as it would still have been easy enough to organise a replacement if it was needed. I was just worried that our trial period would run out before we could get anything sorted but the process was much quicker than I thought. We have still to find the perfect mattress for us and do regret the return without persevering a little longer as the replacment that we did order is terrible.

Issues with delivery 1st attempt only the mattress topper arrived no mattress? Resolved following week with the help of Eve chasing logistics company. The Premium Hybrid Mattress King size is extremely heavy and glad we paid for 2 man delivery who struggled with the box up to the bedroom, interestingly the details on opening the box and mattress are actually printed on the inside the box? Unpacked the mattress and left it to inflate for a few hours .we both have found the mattress very comfortable on the firm side of medium. Only issue we have had was with the strong musty smell that has taken at least 1 month to fade and even now when you have left the bedroom door closed all day you get a faint whiff of it have 1 month left of the trial so will monitor it .The Handles for turning the mattress are located underneath the mattress i assume as being so heavy they would probably soon rip of the side of the mattress, this makes rotating the mattress very awkward as the mattress is extremely heavy ,due for a rotation this week so will get my son and daughter to do it for us. Think anyone should consider this as needs to be done regularly think there is a lighter hybrid version which on reflection would have been better for a pair of old codgers like us...for all my moans I must say it's very comfortable and appears to be of very good quality.......keep safe.

Marketing over promises how good this mattress is. It is not bad but it is not brilliant either. Outer materials feel very synthetic and, as usually the case with rolled mattresses, is not double-sided. Make sure you get a decent discount - Eve play games with them but 25-35% off seems the target. I waited until it went down in price to about what it was 30+ days before. Feedback: Firstly, the super king is very heavy and, probably for some good reason, it unrolls upside down and has to be "flipped". There are some pointless handles on the bottom but they don't really help. We struggled. Secondly, the corners took a long time to go to shape - at least 48 hours. Next, the sides are very soft so collapse when you sit on them which is okay as long as you can easily get up to standing or do not want to sit there. Finally, the comfort to sleep on: this is a foam-topped mattress which means you sink into the foam layer with support underneath from springs. The top is soft and quite warm but kept cool by lots of dimples which you can feel. The core is firm and supportive. Overall result is that you are very aware of the foam and the bed is soft but also stays very flat. It improved my sleep after having a traditional and sagging Warren Evans mattress but don't expect miracles. We decided to keep the mattress - so do not be too put off.
