Tests & Verdict

Here we collect tests, guides and product reviews so that you can create a picture of what others think about the product. This analysis and review is based on my experience and 12+ years of industry insight.

Excellent value for money: The Dingwall Mattress offers a high-quality sleep experience at a budget-friendly price.

Strong support: This mattress provides a firm surface, making it ideal for back and stomach sleepers, as well as some side sleepers, ensuring proper spinal alignment.

Plush filling layer: A luxurious and breathable filling layer enhances the mattress's comfort, catering to those who tend to sleep hot.

Expert craftsmanship: The Dreams Workshop Collection, based in the UK, is renowned for its attention to detail and exceptional quality.

Enhanced sleep and pain relief: Some customers experienced improved sleep quality and a reduction in back pain after using the Dingwall Mattress.
All UK sizes available: With fairly quick delivery, the entire array of sizing can be had faster than some of the competition.

Button tufting concerns: A few users reported that the mattress's tufting buttons could be uncomfortable, causing pressure points. This issue can be addressed by using a thick mattress protector.

Initial adjustment period: Like any new mattress, it might take some time to adapt to the Dingwall Mattress's firmness and the support it offers.

Not suitable for all sleep styles: Although the Dingwall Mattress is a good fit for back and stomach sleepers, it may not be the best choice for all side sleepers who often need a softer surface to properly accommodate their shoulders and hips.

Why our sleep experts loved it

It's been a busy day of new product lines for Dreams, working overtime sees us taking a closer look at the Dreams Workshop Dingwall Traditional Spring Mattress, a handcrafted mattress from the UK that offers great value, comfort, and support. This mattress is designed for those who desire a firmer sleep surface, making it suitable for back and stomach sleepers, and even some side sleepers. If you're on a budget but still want a quality mattress, this could be the perfect option for you.

The Dingwall Mattress features a deep filling layer that provides luxurious comfort, making it an excellent choice for people who sleep warm as the layer is particularly breathable. What's more, this is a newer model that builds upon the success of its predecessor, the Morris mattress, with added enhancements to improve your sleep experience. The Morris this replaces was well reviewed by thousands and should give extreme confidence in the purchase of this new model which features a better and more durable cover but keeps most other things exactly the same.

So what did people think about this product? Well, it has garnered high praise, with a happiness rating of 96% based on over 2000 reviews. Many customers were impressed with the comfort it provided, as well as the exceptional neck and back support. The slightly firmer tension springs work seamlessly with the deep layers of fillings to create a comfortable and supportive sleep surface for those who need a little bit extra support.

The firm firmness is suitable for most people who tend to sleep on their back or stomach and the majority of reviewers agreed with this rating. However, some users still found the mattress too firm, which caused discomfort and pain and resulted in a few complaints and exercising of the 60-night sleep trial to exchange for something a little softer. If you're unsure about the firmness level, it's a good idea to seek advice from the in-store support representatives to find the best option for you.

Onto what customers did enjoy though and many people are fond of the Dingwall Mattress for its excellent quality, affordability, and comfort. Some even reported improved sleep and reduced back pain after using it. It's worth noting that a few reviewers experienced issues with the tufting buttons being uncomfortable, but this can be remedied with a thick mattress protector.

Overall, the Dreams Workshop Dingwall Traditional Spring Mattress offers a great combination of quality, comfort, and value. If you're looking for a firm mattress that provides excellent support without breaking the bank, this could be the perfect choice for you.

    ★★★★★
  • The amount of support offered from a mattress will vary depending on the firmness of the tension and the type of support layer used. Based on a person of average build.
  • Side Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • If you sleep on your side you typically need a supportive tension that is not too firm, nor too soft. This is because your hips and shoulders need adequate sinkage.
  • Stomach Sleepers

  • Stomach sleepers need a reasonable amount of tension in the base support layer to adequately offer body contouring and help prevent aches and pains. Results will vary based on your build.

After blowing 79 on a rolled up so called mattress from a dodgy ebay company last year (huge mistake) it wasn't going to take an awful lot to impress me. I was very impressed with the measures in place in the Telford store due to covid 19 and instantly felt at ease. Covers, masks, sanitizer everywhere and plenty of social distancing. Having picked my mattress the checkout was quick, friendly and efficient and took no more than 5 minutes. 8 days later my new mattress arrived. The delivery men were big, strong, wearing masks and made short work of getting my new mattress into my bedroom. Literally less than 2 minutes. The missus went all out with new pillows and fresh bedding and dutifully set about creating our night time body shelf. After a tiring day, a wonderful sirloin, bottle of red and a shower we were ready to jump into our new slice of heaven. 3 words were muttered by us both in unison. Oh my lord. What slumberland sorcery is this. The perfect amount of firmness, the wonderful smell of the fresh bedding and the support of the memory foam pillows and we were out faster than Frank Bruno against Mike tyson. Absolute bliss. I can't recommend dreams or this mattress highly enough. Superb product, great service and fast delivery. Don't delay, buy one today!

I have to say I was very pleased with not only the bed and mattress that I bought recently but the customer service was excellent. Due to the current circumstances I was unable to get new carpets fitted for several months after I ordered the new bed. I was worried buying this online because I had to trust some reviews rather than try it out myself, but im glad I ignored the negative ones - this mattress is by far the comfiest (for me) For someone who constantly says the floor is the most comfortable mattress, this is great! it is firm and hard so don't expect to be sleeping on a cloud - if you like firm mattresses with a tinyyyyyy bit of give - this is the one! I love a firm mattress because it means I don't sink into it and I don't wake up aching in the morning. (I used to suffer pain in my ribs and back with my previous mattress). despite these other reviews saying you can feel the pockets - I can't at all! (unless I literally feel them with my hands). its bouncy but not too much that the other person moves when you move - its perfect! delivery was nice and quick - I'm so pleased with this buy

My sons old mattress was in need of replacement. I ordered this one after reading lots of good reviews and I have to say I was not disappointed! It is lovely and comfy, my son has slept so much better since getting this new mattress. It is brilliant value for money, especially as I was lucky enough to get it in the sale. The delivery was quick and easy, with all the social distancing measures explained and in place. We took advantage of the mattress disposal service and a bag to put it in was delivered prior to the new mattress being delivered. It had very clear instructions on what we needed to do,so on the day it was really easy and straightforward. Would recommend both the product and Dreams!

I bought this mattress at the end of February and it was in my bedroom within 2 weeks which was perfect as I had to wait for my bed frame to arrive. It arrived with no faults and the delivery guys were great and kept me updated with when they would turn up. The quality is great and it is the perfect firmness. I was worried it would take a while to get used to it and my back would be sore but the first night was the best nights sleep in a while and I had no back or neck pain which was great!!! The pattern is lovely and has a soft silk kind of texture, with feather details which makes it feel all the more luxurious. Definitely worth the money charged! And the quality is perfect.

Seems to be a good quality mattress. Although, it is a lot harder than expected and it didn't seem so in the shop. When in the shop I did explain that I had a wooden bed base, and asked for their advice when choosing a mattress, as I was concerned about making the right choice. The wooden bed base does seem to considerably affect the firmness of the mattress. However, I guess that means the mattress will maintain it's firmness and have good longevity. But I will invest in a mattress topper sometime soon. I think a normal divan bed base would make the mattress a lot kinder on the back. Anyway, all things to consider when choosing and buying a new mattress etc.

The Morris K Mattress from Dreams is certainly an ideal sensible choice that we eventually settled for! It just felt right before finally deciding on making a purchase. But what can I say, we are absolutely thoroughly delighted and the staff at Dreams could not have been anymore nicer and accommodating on finding a mattress that best suits those sleeping requirements that is tailored to match. Arranging a delivery for the team to lift the package into the house at the earliest possible time was in itself absolute bliss! Am so glad Dreams was our first choice, nothing but the best in both blissful comfort and the finest quality throughout!

We got this in the light silver grey for my daughters tween bedroom makover. Its such a small room. Before we had a cabin bed, but with some carefully measured furniture and a folding desk she now has way more space than she did before. The bed couldn't fit more perfectly if we'd got a made to measure bedroom. It really is excellent Dreams iffer this size bed, mattress and headboard. My daughter is so thrilled in her new grown up space. Delivery etc. Were perfect as usual. This is our third bed purchase from Dreams as we have been reburbing rooms one at a time, and the fact that we keep coming back to the same retailer says alot.

Me and my partner are in our early 20s renting our first house, we first ordered a cheap bedframe&mattress off Argos which absolutely destroyed our backs, we barely slept and we couldnt even move our arm without it creaking. Cut to a few months later we order this mattress and have the best sleep weve had since we moved in. We bought this and a divan bedframe in the sale so it was only 399 for both, a massive bargain considering. The mattress itself is quite firm and may need a mattress topper for anyone who would rather have a mattress to sink into but this was perfect and affordable for me, a uni student, and my partner.

I bought this mattress a few weeks afi as my son was not sleeping and it was my last resort! I was so happy with the service. The matress is nice and deep and firm too. My son has been sleeping the whole night through...prefect!! So comfortable and great value for money too. It came well packaged with corner protectors so in perfect condition. The delivery man carried it up to my son's room so it was easy to unpackage and put on the frame. It does need a few hours to 'breathe' before you put sheets on so think about that when booking delivery slot. Would definitely recommend this matress and Dreams delivery service.

A quintessential mattress company that provides more than you could ever need. As a young graduate software engineer I was a bit clueless about mattresses and the right one to go with, but Dreams made it easier than can be! I went into the Lincolnshire store to look around, and was instantly greeted by a lovely young lady who carefully took me through all the requirements I may or may not have even thought of, and helped me to find a mattress perfect for me. In the end, I purchased the Morris Spring mattress, upgrading from a single bed to a small double and my sleeping has never been better!!!

I purchased this mattress about a month ago and since then have been sleeping much better. The existential dread now sets in 10 minutes after the first alarm, as opposed to moments following the first ring. I can only put this down to the added comfort on my lower back as I stare into the blank ceiling debating whether or not I really do need a master's degree, and if technology has come far enough to transfer my consciousness into a golden retriever puppy, allowing me to live out my life responsibility free as a cherished house pet for an affluent family in Surrey.

What's the deal with the 288 traditional springs? Is that a good number?

How often do I need to flip this mattress?

Answer: The Dingwall is a double-sided mattress, which means you should flip it regularly to prolong its lifespan. For the first three months, it's advisable to turn it weekly, and after that, a monthly flip should suffice.

Is this mattress easy to clean?

Answer: While the Dingwall mattress doesn't come with a removable cover for machine washing, you can easily clean it with some warm soapy water and a cloth for any spills or stains.

The question has been asked before. Is the mattress double sided? One response says yes and one says no. However upon delivery it seems to be double sided. There is no instructions that came with it to clarify.

Answer: We apologise for any confusion here. This mattress has 3 layers, a top layer of deep fillings, a middle layer of traditional springs and a base layer of fillings. The base layer of fillings is not as deep as the top layer and therefore would not provide the same comfort and support as the top layer. You are able to sleep on both sides of the mattress, however the underside of the mattress would not provide the same comfort as the designated sleeping side.

How do I tell the top from the bottom? When it was delivered I was told it could be slept on both sides, there is no way of knowing if it was put on my bed the right way up.

Please could you tell me how I work out which is the top of the mattress? Ive checked the label and it doesnt say. The delivery men said I could use both sides but after reading the description and other questions I realise this is not the case.

Answer: This mattress is not double sided, however we recommend you rotate head to toe weekly for the first three months, then every month thereafter. The sleeping service is indicated by the label being attached to the top surface. Thanks, Dreams
