How We Test
To keep our reviews user-oriented, we adopt a careful approach to our testing process. After thorough in-person evaluations in store, which entail feeling the fabric, observing the depth, estimating the firmness, scrutinising the features such as cooling technology and washability, we compile our verdicts. While we may not conduct a home trial, our seasoned experts and firsthand customer feedback shape our reviews.
Design and Features
Fall into an abyss of comfort with the TEMPUR Pro Air SmartCool™ Luxe Firm Mattress. From a comfort standpoint, this mattress is a premier offering from TEMPUR®'s range, boasting their much vaunted and technologically advanced memory foam which is supportive yet comfortably firm. The engaging design is backed by NASA technology, primarily crafted to offer excellent pressure relief and motion absorption. These features are draped in an exclusive Pro Air SmartCool™ cover, designed to disperse heat, ensuring you sleep in a refreshingly chilled environment, great for those who prefer the cooler side of the pillow.
Looking at its design, TEMPUR® doesn't disappoint with a luxurious 30cms worth of depth which further enhances the bed's comfort credentials. Yet even with these advanced features, the TEMPUR Pro Air SmartCool™ Luxe Firm Mattress remains user-friendly; you can easily remove the cover and wash it at 40 degrees, ensuring hygiene, an aspect often overlooked in mattress design. What's more, the comfort promise is not left to chance. TEMPUR® has backed this exclusive Dreams product with an impressive 10-year guarantee where customers have leeway to exchange it within a 100-night comfort trial window.
Mattress Comfort
From our testing, the TEMPUR Pro Air SmartCool™ Luxe Firm Mattress is strong on providing comfort, and owners mostly agree, though some say the firmness takes a few weeks to get used to. The TEMPUR® Advanced Material adapts to your unique weight, shape, and warmth, contouring to your body with pin-point precision, delivering an experience that feels like the mattress was crafted specifically for you. Expect firm yet enjoyable support, an aspect that will particularly appeal to back and stomach sleepers. For those who cherish the freedom to sink slightly into their mattress, thanks to a soft top layer, this luxurious offering will be a pleasant surprise.
Suitability
The TEMPUR Pro Air SmartCool™ Luxe Firm Mattress is decidedly orientated towards back and stomach sleepers. The firmness can be a deal-breaker for side sleepers or individuals with hourglass figures who require more sinkage for their shoulders and hips. However, back and stomach sleepers will find this mattress thoroughly accommodating, helping to alleviate troublesome aches and pains.
What Customers Thought
Owners write most often about comfort and support, and those with back trouble often say it helped. One wrote of "No pain whatsoever in the morning", where before they used to wake with lower back and hip pain. A recurring point is that it feels very firm at first and softens as it warms to your body: "It is firm at first but does ease", as one owner put it, while another couple were still getting used to it after almost eight weeks. The cooling cover gets a mention too, with one owner finding the effect "obvious even through a mattress protector and bedsheet". On the practical side, one owner points out it has no side handles, another found lifting the corners to tuck in sheets hard work, and one buyer waited three months because it is made to order, though they said it was worth the wait. It did not suit one couple, who found it so solid that it made a back condition worse, and planned to exchange it under the guarantee.
The Verdict
The TEMPUR Pro Air SmartCool™ Luxe Firm Mattress is a great option, thanks to its blend of support, comfort and clever features. However, its appeal slightly tapers off if you're a side sleeper. The high-end price and long waiting time might hinder some from purchasing it despite the impressive guarantee it comes with. Nonetheless, for back or stomach sleepers without budget restraints, the TEMPUR Pro Air SmartCool™ Luxe Firm Mattress is an investment in consistently undisrupted, comfortable sleep, making it worth every penny.
