Tempur

Tempur was first born in the 1980’s to relatively lukewarm acclaim, see, it was the memory foam that really got Tempur finding it’s stride and this didn’t happen until 1991, becoming one of the first companies in the world to see the commercial benefits of what is now known today as memory foam.

Today Tempur is one of the largest mattress companies in the UK and serves thousands of customers yearly with its high quality no-compromise foam filled mattresses. The Tempur brand carries huge weight and is available in many bedding and chain retailers throughout. The standout features of Tempur have given customers a great night's sleep for decades with many spending their life on a mattress from this company, not having needed to swap out far beyond the traditional 7-year buying cycle.

With competitive pricing and unique memory foam bounce-back comfort, it’s not hard to see why Tempur are leading the way some 40 years after inception.

Flaxby

Flaxby mattresses are sold exclusively by the popular retailer, Dreams. The collection is a more up-market premium brand within the lineup and uses an impressive array of comfortable and soft materials in the upper layers of their mattresses to ensure a natural and comfortable sleeping surface. Flaxby are focussed toward ensuring a greener and fresher sleep that is more environmentally friendly. That’s why they utilise 100% recyclable spring systems and natural fibres to help safeguard the environment for future generations.

A feature unique to Flaxby includes their new all-seasons lineup which sees a two sided mattress which has different comfort layers on each side, giving a “warmer” side and a “cooler” side.

Tempur Owner Satisfaction

Tempur owner satisfaction is one of the main reasons why people go on to buy another Tempur when the time eventually comes to replace. See, Tempur mattresses are almost seen as part of a ‘cult’, once you’ve slept on one, the idea of moving to an alternate brand no longer makes sense. Reviews for Tempur mattresses consistently talk of the great night's sleep that comes with purchase and one which is rarely regretted.

Tempur mattresses are ranked number 1 for customer satisfaction in multiple countries across the world, highlighting their positive experiences and why one should be considered. Price points may serve as an issue for those looking for something a little cheaper, however, the reputation for improving the quality of people’s sleep cannot be overstated.

Tempur Supportiveness

When it comes to supportiveness you could be forgiven for looking beyond Tempur mattresses. After all, the memory foam comfort layer that is unique to Tempur is, as the name suggests, for comfort and not reflective of the support systems on offer. Fortunately Tempur mattresses now feature TEMPUR® Support Material for an outstanding support layer that is unique to the brand and not available on competing products. What’s more, the company has created a small but pointed range of mattresses to ensure that whatever your support preference of soft, medium or firm, there is something for everyone.

My personal preference continues to be the medium firmness tension which offers enough support with enough “give” to ensure you will sink deep into the mattress which makes it ideal for the average person sleeping on their side.

Tempur Durability

Different Tempur products have different guarantees but I do think it is particularly telling of the Tempur durability that their mattress lineup will most frequently come with a 10 year guarantee. This guarantee is a testament to the confidence the manufacturer has in their products. After all, each Tempur mattress takes around 60 hours to make (according to Tempur themselves), and in that time they go through up to 67 different quality and assurance tests to ensure that you get the right product that is built to last.

So much of the competition features 1 year guarantees which make it harder to justify the case that their durability is of a primary concern.

Flaxby Owner Satisfaction

Flaxby mattresses are some of the better reviewed in the industry achieving impressive scores on a continual basis that generally outperform the competition. Owners are particularly overjoyed because Flaxby is offering the great comfort and support that we all love but introduce multiple new features that help provide an enhanced sleep experience. Customers particularly enjoyed the all-season range which gave people a deep sleep all year round that kept them cool in summer and warm in winter, the perfect combination.

Customers also enjoyed the natural cotton, wool & hemp fillings that come as standard on many in the lineup with particular attention being drawn to the fantastic 5 year guarantee on most models.

Flaxby Supportiveness

Flaxby mattresses have a great deal of supportiveness thanks to the Cortec™ and DNAir pocket spring systems on offer within the lineup. The Flaxby range is what we consider to be a traditional lineup with typical high quality manufacturing processes that result in luxurious and supportive mattresses. Pocket springs have generally remained unrivaled over the years and are my own personal favourite support layer when it comes to offering good tension for back and neck support. Many of the products on offer are available with multiple tension options which means you have a choice around how firm you would like the product to be. Depending on how you sleep (front, back, side) to how much you weigh are all determinations when choosing the right supportiveness.

Flaxby Durability

Flaxby mattresses will typically perform better in terms of true longevity than many other mattress suppliers due to their large investment in good quality pocket spring support layers combined with tried and tested comfort layers of wool and silk. The combination of these materials gives customers confidence but also the retailer, Dreams. This is evident in their backing of this product lineup with the impressive 5 year guarantee that ensures long standing support in the event of any manufacturing defects. The price point for Flaxby may often price certain people out of the market who are looking for something a little cheaper, however, when you consider the lifespan and the cost per night of sleep as a result, the Flaxby offers a fantastic opportunity for sleepers thanks to its durability and comfort.

So having had this mattress around 4 weeks now and having slept on the cloud mattress for 4 weeks I can say this mattress has made a difference to my sleep. So previously I had a memory foam mattress from Ikea which cost me around £300, it was quite hard but we made do with it as I guess other things in life take precedent. Over the last year or so I developed a shooting pain in my shoulder blade on the left side, I put this down to being a muddled sleeper with my arm under my head while sleeping etc. So I made the decision to look into a good mattress which would possibly help with the pain I was often getting, I can honestly say this mattress has helped me personally, my pain has now almost gone and I believe this to be down to the mattress supporting my body where it needs it, I recently stayed away for a short break and the place we stayed had a spring mattress, the next day my shooting pain came back, once I got back home and slept on my Tempur again the pain has gone so I'm sure the Tempur is doing what it's supposed to do. I was very reluctant in spending around £1700 on a king size mattress as it's a lot of money but sucked it up and made the purchase. I'm glad I did now as the mattress is great and has helped me massively personally. If you have any aches or pains and are considering this mattress, give it a go as Dreams do offer a 100 nights money back guarantee so you've nothing to loose. Also look out for when offers are on, Dreams usually offer Tempur pillows and mattress protectors with in the cost of the mattress if you keep an eye out at key times of the year, NY, Xmas and Black Friday sales.

While the price may seem a little steep at first, I can safely say after a month of use that these pillows are worth every penny. Hands down the best pillow I have ever owned. I was able to try one out while looking for a new mattress, and was skeptical at first, taking it as a bit of an expensive gimmick, but, wow, 10 minutes of use in-store and I was sold. The obvious USP is the CoolTouch feature and it really lives up to the name - it is always cool to the touch. The pillow does warm up a little during use, but you can simply move your head to another part of it to experience that cool pillow feeling again - meaning no more pillow flipping in the middle of the night to get the cool side. It really is something else. The support the pillow provides is also fantastic. I'm a restless sleeper, and fall asleep on my front, but will move around in the night so that I could be on my side or back and it is equally as comfortable for all sleeping positions. My head sinks into the pillow just the right amount, and the pillow springs back to shape very quickly when I move. A great balance of softness/comfort and support. The removable, washable cover is also very handy for keeping your pillows fresher for longer. The ONLY drawback, if you can call it that, is that there is a slight smell to the pillows when you initally start using them, I imagine this is something to do with the CoolTouch feature. But this has already disappeared for me after a month of use. Overall, I couldn't be happier, would recommend these to anyone.

OK, so having broken my back 40 years ago, I’ve spent a fair chunk of my disposable income on different mattresses and beds, latex, pocket sprung, Vi-Spring - you get my drift. Sadly, none of these gave me exactly the correct amount of support in the places where this was crucial to getting a peaceful, restful and refreshing night’s sleep. Fast-forward to our visit to “Dreams” at Plympton. Joy of joys! No pressure, no salesperson hovering over us as we tried to adopt unrealistic “sleeping” poses. Just oodles of time to lie down, turn and try out each mattress (after first addressing our mattress needs using “Dreams” wonderful mattress assessment technology. We spent hours (no really, over 3 hours) testing our final three mattress choices. These were soon whirled down to a leading favourite and a strong contender. After a delicious complimentary cup of excellent coffee, it was back to the rigours if serious testing. This one had everything we wanted: more importantly, despite my best efforts, I couldn’t find a single flaw with this mattress (and I went shopping armed with an extensive “Nit-Pick” list). So there you have it. In my humble opinion, this is probably the world’s best mattress. Expensive? Nothing like the cost of my last mattress which was a Vi-Spring. You’ll spend one-third of your life on a mattress, so don’t skimp on the testing nor the price and buy this mattress - it will be one of the best’ no-risk investments you’ll ever make.

Husband bought the soft version which we tried when we purchased a new mattress and I thought it was quite hard. Fast forward a few months I ended up buying this one as tired of buying ‘superior’ pillows that were really nothing more than a supermarket own brand. At first the coolness of the protector was amazing as I like the cold side of the pillow, however after a few days this pillow ended up causing me a great deal of neck pain as it just was not breaking in and staying solid and occasionally reverted back to my cheap ones to give my neck a break. I did think I might have to get rid of it. Anyway I was washing the cool feel cover and ended up using it without it or a pillow case and what a difference. The pillow actually works and moulds to you. I have since found out that for memory foam to work it needs warmth and unfortunately this cool feel case is actually preventing the pillow from actually working. I started to use the pillow with the cool feel cover unzipped to allow the pillow to flatten otherwise it stays in its rigid state but it’s not the best and just put a normal case on it and it again is not great. I’ll probably buy a very large pillow case and see if that helps. Hopefully this review will give others who have bought this pillow and are struggling with it an idea as to why it may not be living up to expectations and try it a couple of nights with no cases on the pillow.

I purchased this mattress a couple of months ago; having had our previous mattress for well over 8 years. Both myself and my partner prefer a firmer density in mattress, but not overly firm so it feels hard, and one that helps keep us cool. We started looking at various types; ruling out the cheap ones as they were horribly uncomfortable especially with their spring base. Eventually; we came to this one. The mattress is firm but not overly hard. The foam is at the perfect density for us - it moves and adapts to your body to help support you where you need it. We’re both happy with our choice and find it difficult to sleep on anything else. A word of caution - this was advertised as coming with a ‘cooling’ layer, which was great in the showroom. However, in real life circumstances - with a bottom sheet and protector on - there is no real benefit from the cooling layer. Don’t base your choice to buy the mattress solely on that. Another word of caution - the first few nights with this were dreadful. We expected to go to sleep on it and immediately drop off and feel like we were on a cloud. The first couple of nights were uncomfortable and it took a while to get used to, especially having not hadn’t a memory foam mattress before. Stick with it though - it’s an excellent mattress overall

We purchased the Flaxby 14450 pillow top mattress from Dreams after trying out the range of Flaxby mattresses in store. We opted for the Superking size with the split medium/soft support and the zipped option (essentially two singles joined together). I prefer the medium support whereas my partner likes the softer feel. Bear in mind, these are heavy mattresses and having the split mattress option makes it far easier to rotate them, which you will need to do weekly for the first 3 months (then monthly thereafter). It has taken a long time for the mattress to fully bed in and feel comfortable to sleep on. If you're considering this mattress, be prepared for a full 6-8 weeks break in period to allow the materials to loosen up and conform to your body. When new, it felt very stiff with the sensation you're lying on top of the mattress, with not much give and with minimal support. My partner quickly got used to sleeping on her softer mattress, whereas with my medium feel mattress, I experienced lower back pain on and off for the first 4-5 weeks. The Dreams staff advised that the Flaxby mattresses do take a while to break in and conform to your body. Here's some tips that have worked well for us and are worth considering: Mattress support - this mattress really does deserve a quality bed base, preferably a pocket spring divan base. We initially used our old Superking bed frame with sprung slats. However, although the 14450 mattress is a deep mattress and should in theory work well on any bed base, we found that it did not gel that well with the sprung slats, as the mattress tended to sag slightly. We have now switched to a sprung divan base and it's made a big difference to the feel, comfort and support of the mattress. Pillows - we initially used our Tempur cloud pillows with the Flaxby but we have since switched to Levitex sleep posture pillows (we opted for the small size). This has made a world of difference - no more neck and back pain! Duvets - we've always liked having our own single duvets rather than sharing a larger duvet so we can better control our body temperatures. My partner uses a weighted duvet whereas I switched to a wool filled duvet. The Flaxby mattresses do offer better temperature control compared to our old Tempur mattress. It is still worth investing in a quality duvet to really get the best sleeping experience.

My last bed was a supersized king divan style base with an orthopaedic mattress which I had for the last 15 years and it was a bit too large for the flat I moved into a few years ago so thought it time to change over to a double. I have always wanted a chunky wooden framed bed with a nice soft mattress & finally decided to take the plunge and ordered a frame off the web in the same style as my other bedroom furniture and then started looking for a mattress that I liked and found this one Dreams which sounded just right. I can tell you after spending 15 years sleeping on what might as well have been a rock the new mattress is like sleeping on a cloud. The mattress gives me a tremendous amount of support, yet it has a nice soft finish to it that I just sink into when I get into bed at night. It is beautifully finished with handles on all four sides making it easy to rotate even though it is quite a heavy mattress. My only wish is that I had spotted the Moore Wooden chunky bedframe on the Dreams website before I had ordered the frame that I did because that looks a lot sturdier that the one I bought is. I do have one small problem though and that is that it isn’t only me that has fallen in love with the new mattress, so have the cats who spend the bulk of the day relaxing on it and get a bit disgruntled when it comes to bed time and I have to get into it but they soon find their way back onto it when they think I have fallen asleep. So it seems that it isn’t only me who now get a great night’s sleep on my new 6500 DNAir mattress! But prehaps I should have gone for the king size to accomopdate all of us.

I did the dreams exchange as the Tempur elite medium was far too firm as I have widespread arthritis and fibromyalgia. So glad I waited 7 weeks for the swap to this Harrison Spinks Flaxby 11150. Its all natural fibre fillings and sprung plus eco friendly with the added bonus of being handmade by British crafts people up in Yorkshire. The difference it has made is huge, now I sleep far better. Even though I opted for the soft double mattress it has 11150 springs in it so there is alot of support and it is not like a cheap flimsy soft mattress. It is more like a medium at first but is a wonderful mattress, I highly recommend it and yes its worth the money, even better at sales time. It has an odour at first, just open window and air mattress if poss, it soon fades, but at least the odour is natural. It is a dual season mattress, one side for autumn/winter the other for spring summer so thats a bonus as I can be a hot sleeper. It comes with a guarantee and clear instructions for rotating & turning for the first number of weeks especially (it has 8 handles for turning) , worth following as this mattress is top quality, you look after it and it will look after you for many years.Buy a good quality mattress protector as the mattress does have the dipping yarned buttons, wont interfere with your sleep though! I love it and so glad I did the swap as its for me i top quality, highly recommend this and a thankyou to the team at Dreams on Basford bank roundabout in Stoke On Trent.

Don’t buy a bed online! Two years ago we replaced our right year old bed with a Simba mattress (one of these online ones that comes vacuum packed). We both get hot at night and this memory foam didn’t help. It started to sag badly, I ended up under the chiro and I complained to Simba who replaced the mattress free of charge. New mattress started sagging with three months and I’m still suffering with a bad back under the chiro. As my back wasn’t improving the chiro suggested the mattress may not suit me and perhaps I needed something more supportive so in desperation (and really not wanting to spend money on another mattress so soon) we went to Dreams. Best thing we ever did. Back MASSIVELY better after just one night. Sales Manager Amy spent a lot of time going through our options. New bed creates less condensation in our room and we aren’t hot at night. Worth every penny, wish I’d done it sooner and I’ll never ever buy a bed online again. There maybe a X number of days you can try it (on Simba and Dreams) but the reality is very few of us will go to the effort of sending it back unless it’s really bad. You just live with it. Don’t make the same mistake I did. The bed is also British made with all natural fibres. No gels or foams. LOVE it!
