There are those that prefer traditional toppers to pillow tops and as such pillow tops can be somewhat divisive. When it comes to making a good mattress a few things must hold true in the support and comfort layers of a mattress, and being priced as keenly as this one, it's going to be important Flaxby get it right. So let's see what they've put together underneath that luxurious mattress cover...

Starting with the support layer and we're working with an impressive 4450 individual pocket springs, including exclusive DNAir pocket springs. This looks to be a combination hybrid between traditional pocket springs and a firm of micro spring layer that will sit above. The benefit of a model like the proposed is that you get more springs, more bounce back and more support. The slight downside to this set up may come in the form of it's weight whereby the more springs you add to the mattress the heavier it becomes. This is compounded by the recommendation to rotate head to toe regularly to help ensure adequate and even settlement of springs and fillings. That said, Flaxby have covered for this eventuality by including quality grips on both sides of the mattress to help make turning a bit easier. Definitely do not be put off by the weight, it's the price you pay for quality.

Onto the comfort layer and you have a sumptuous pillow top and upper layer made up of generous helpings of Natural cotton, wool & hemp fillings. While exact quantities of each are not provided, it is clear from pictures and depth that we are dealing with generous quantities of all. Dreams do not make specific mention of anti-allergy, nor breathability but traditionally with this natural makeup it is not uncommon to find the mattress breathable and thereby cooling, preventing you from getting too hot while you sleep, and also proving to be hypoallergenic.

Having tried countless mattresses in the past, nothing compares to the indulgence experienced with the Flaxby Masters Guild 4450 Pillow Top Mattress. The unique DNAir springs provide not just support but a heavenly sink-in feeling that instantly soothes any aches. However, I must admit, I did find the mattress to be a bit on the firm side initially, but it gradually adapts to your body's contours. Just don't expect instant softness!

Its the pillow top add-on that makes me feel like Im sleeping on a cloud However, it did produce a subtle farm-like smell at first due to the natural wool but it gradually faded away. I was extremely dubious about purchasing this mattress and had been looking at the reviews for a good couple of months before taking the plunge. I went in Dreams several times to lay on it and make sure I wasn't making any bad decisions. It felt like the mattress was just hugging you right back when you laid on it! Good support in the lower back area too as I have a permanent slipped disc and spinal arthritis so I had to be 110% certain I was getting the right mattress. I have now had this mattress for over two months. My patter goes like this: sleep on one side for 7 days, then sleep on the other side. Then rotate the mattress and repeat the first steps. It is quite heavy to rotate but I'm just relieved I have finally found the perfect mattress again after 13 years of agony and going through about 5 different mattresses! There is no dipping as I rotate the mattress regularly - I am only 9st just over so not really big enough to be making the bed dip. I have a mattress protector on the bed, and use medium pillows. I am sleeping like a dream. I now manage to have nights where I sleep right through without waking for the loo or with pain! I no longer wake up with back pain anymore. I really am one happy lady! Would definitely recommend this mattress to others BUT if you are on the larger side, go for a firm it will soften over time, as seen other reviews saying this mattress dips so I guess if your on the heavy side you may or may not have an issue. Have attached pictures of when I first got the mattress compared with 3 months later and as you can see, no dips and looks just as good. I also bought the bed frame from dreams too.

I did a lot of research to find the right mattress. After a lengthy period hunting, I came across this model within the Flaxby range. It has everything that my partner and I were looking for. We had put up with our previous mattress for far too long so we decided to make an investment. We have not been disappointment at all. Considering that this only comes in either a medium/firm or firm, I was surprised at just how comfortable the medium/firm actually is. We sink into it. The pillow top does help. We've only had the mattress a few nights and know that we are getting the best sleep ever as it is a world famous Harrison Spinks. The mattress is a lot taller than our old one, and I was worried that the sheets wouldn't fit as a result and we would have to by king size sheets, but everything fits perfectly. Oh, aches and pains in my neck have vanished. Suffering with pains when you wake up, then do yourself a favour and get a Flaxby. You will not be disappointed. Hand made is BEST made.

For a handmade mattress, this is an amazing mattress, unfortunately it doesn't completely fit my daughter's double bed, it's like it's slightly smaller than a double mattress, it falls slightly shorter in length and width. (By an inch or so). Also, where it has the topper part on it, the mattress protectors and fitted sheets don't fit or sit well on it. This being said, the comfort, well that is great, my daughter can finally sleep well, she suffers with hypermobility and she is finally sleeping without pain in her joints.

Very pleased with my purchase, was sceptical parting with my money especially with only trying it for a short while instore. We were sold on the mattress description and association with Harrison Spinks. The mattress was dispatched within the quoted timeframe and the delivery men were superb. Have been sleeping on the mattress for 3 weeks and have had no issues, its come exactly as described , weve rotated it weekly as per the instructions and can see us being happy for many sleeps ahead.

We tried the memory foam. They did not agree with us at all. Ordered the Flaxby - which you can customise. Not looked back. Firm mattress with a built in topper. I can sit up in bed to read AND have a hot water bottle in winter - you cant do that in a (full-on) memory foam. Slightly more transference of movement in this mattress but we had a king size made of 2 singles which has helped a lot. The mattress has also received the cats seal of approval!

Walked into the Lakeside store to see what was available and in no rush as it was for a spare room still being decorated. Sophie in the store asked if she could help and in hindsight she certainly did. I tried a good many mattresses that she suggested based on the "Test Bed" outcome. The last I tried was noticeably better than the rest. No surprise it was the most expensive but Sophie sent the details to my email and I was away to think about it. Its a spare room after all. Likely gets used once per year! A few weeks went by and a call one evening from Sophie to tell me there was an offer on this matrass. I decided to purchase and went to the store the next day to finalise and pay. I decided that it made sense to put my mattress on the spare bed, its only a couple of years old, and then have the new one on my bed. Smart thinking as it turns out. When the new mattress arrived the delivery guys were first class, helpful, care full and very friendly. I was impressed that they put shoe covers over their shoes and had the thing in place in no time. Since using it for the past 3 weeks I have to say I have slept better than ever before. I look forward to going to bed now. Its the most comfortable mattress I have ever slept on by far. So thus far after a few weeks I am very pleased with the entire process and the end outcome. We took several months doing research and trying out mattresses before we finally chose the Flabby 4450 Pillow top mattress. We had initially avoided a pillow top because the most common criticism of these, along with some non pillow top natural fibre mattresses, is that they soon dip and cannot recover as most memory foam products do. We had also avoided the 'rotate only' one sided mattress as our last mattress deteriorated largely due to the cover fabric wearing out, so we thought if we had one that had to be turned over it might last twice as long. So having taken a very long time to decide on our preferred construction etc. we happened to try the Flaxby whilst visiting Dreams to try a completely different mattress and just fell in love with it. We've had it for 3 weeks now and have never slept better. We know that it may dip over time but we are hoping that won't affect our enjoyment of it. We can't comment at this point whether it might be too hot in summer but at the moment it is just right for us, not too soft, not too hard and very supportive. It's also noticeable that the edges are very firmly sprung so if you sit on the bed to put your socks on, you don't slip off as you do on some other mattresses. All round very happy with it so far.

I purchased this mattress in September 2021 as being fully compatible with the Sleepmotion 400i bed. I was asked by the contractor who assembled my bed why I purchased this mattress as it was not compatible with the Sleepmotion bed. I contacted Harrison Spinks, the manufacturer of this mattress and received the following response: Thank you for sending the photos, we would not recommend one of our mattresses to be raised at the foot end or in the center. We would be able to accommodate a 45% lift at the head end only. I contacted Dreams customer services back in early October with this advise from Harrison Spinks. Dreams promised to investigate. They offered for me to get a different mattress but I like this mattress and I want to know WHY they continue to sell it as fully compatible with the Sleepmotion bed when the manufacturers advise that the mattress is NOT compatible. I have tried for two solid months to get an answer from Dreams and they just ignore my emails. Please do get in touch with Dreams as using the mattress outside of the recommended usage could have an impact on any guarantee as we cannnot cover usage outside of that which we recommend.

When I lay down on Natures Finest 4450 mattress in the store, I made the immediate decision to buy one as it was so soft and comfortable - even though it was way beyond the ceiling I had decided upon for price. I had high hopes for the wonderful nights sleep I would have, as I have been suffering from insomnia for a long time. So my first night was a great disappointment- as were the subsequent nights until after a week, I returned to the store to voice my concerns. I found the mattress very hard and uncomfortable. The sales person assured me that I was far too early in my judgement and that I should sleep on the mattress for at least a month before taking advantage of the exchange policy that Dreams have. I am very pleased to report that having had the mattress now for a little over two weeks, it has become much softer and I am enjoying a good nights sleep at last.

naming this mattress Natures finest doesn't give it enough credit i have never felt better when i wake up. I always thought i was a miserable non morning person as a personality trait, however since i have been sleeping on this mattress it turns out the last statement was correct but due to never having the right sleep. Since i have been sleeping on this mattress my back pain hasn't just improved its completely gone in just 3 months which i would have described 3 months ago as a miracle. Also to point out that i have never has a cooler sleep and no longer need to kick off the duvet and kick my wife away whilst sleeping. Me & my husband decided to go for this mattress after some awful nights sleeping on memory foam mattresses. I was a little sceptical as I don't like the look of quilted tops and prefer the smooth look of a memory foam (but couldn't get comfortable!) So I agreed to give this a try, the first one did have to go back as one of the handles had been missed off the side when manufactured, but Dreams were great and got this sorted for us. We have now been sleeping on it for several months and I am so pleased with it, very comfortable and don't over heat in it at all, soft but still supportive. This was definitely more than we have ever spent on a mattress before but so far so good! The only thing is I do think it smells of the natural fibres (sheep!) but my husband says that he doesn't smell anything at all, so maybe it is just me!

Im a reluctant shopper , but this purchase has literally been lifechanging. My previous last two mattresses ( bad choice and then worse one), made me feel me and a comfy night would remain far apart .. till the proper advice and attention I received at the Dreams unit. Having decided to spend a lot more than any time in the past on a new mattress as I was not sleeping well or waking up stiff and sore, I was hoping that changing my mattress would result in a miraculous improvement in my sleep comfort and quality. The reality is that I am still getting used to it. The mattress is slightly more comfortable than my last one. I am concerned it may be a bit soft for me and it seems to hold the dip after I have sat up reading before going to sleep. We purchased the soft option of the Flaxby 4450 which was the comfiest mattress we tried in store - I can confirm after two weeks of usage I have never slept better - first morning I woke up with no neck, back or shoulder pain for the first time in years. I had suffered from slight pain in these areas and it just confirms that I have been using inadequate mattresses previously (a very expensive Tempur mattress which I dont rate at all, and my wife grew to dislike over the past couple of years). It's been 3 months since my purchase. I opted for the firm option as I sleep on my belly but may flip to my back. I have experienced no back pain and slept quiet comfortably since. Even though it came much firmer than the one I tried at the store, the pillow top gives it a cushony surface while still feeling dense at the bottom. I am still meant to rotate it but there are no dips. One note is that it does have an initial barn scent due to its natural fibers, so be aware if you are super sensitive. Otherwise, it looks like in magazines and feels just as premium.

We decided to purchase a new mattress from Dreams using their Sleepmatch technology, partly because our existing mattress was very old but mainly because my wife had been suffering badly with sciatica for months and nothing she had tried was improving the problem. Have chosen firm mattress, after testing a several ones in store (previous mattress I had was medium). Sleeping on it for a first few days was a bit difficult to be honest, as it was brand new, very firm and as the leaflet says- it needed to get to know me, my weight and sleeping patterns. After about a week, mattress has adjusted to my body and sleeping on it started to feel comfortable. Its been a month since purchasing, I can only say that this mattress is well designed and I dont have any issues regarding firmness or sleeping comfort.

My husband and I selected this mattress after trying Sleepmatch in-store, and it was definitely the right choice for us. We were really interested in the UK-sourced natural fillings and recyclable springs, but are pleasantly surprised by how comfortable and weighty the mattress is. Most comfortable mattress Ive ever had, my last one was great but had a memory foam top that used to make me sweat a lot. The wool in this is comfy, supportive and cushioning but doesnt hold heat, it keeps your temperature really even at night. The fact the materials are all natural must have a lot to do with this, I like that its environmentally friendly too. At first it smelled quite strongly of sheep wool, the smell has mostly gone now and I miss it! Made me feel like a shepherd with my own flock counting me to sleep

I spent a long time deciding on a mattress, before choosing the Flaxby 4450. Took a week or so to get used to it, but now, after 4 weeks, it feels more like mine. The main pros areexcellent quality and it offers good support whilst still feeling comfy (I chose Medium). The main cons areits heavy and needs turning every week initially, and even with a mattress protector on, Im sometimes aware of the dips where the tufts are. But overall, I like the mattress, am happy with the choice I made, and recommend it.

Honest review. I bought this mattress after trying it out in store. It's a beautifully made mattress and clearly very high quality. Unfortunately, I'm not sure I made the right choice and am considering returning it. At the time of purchase I was torn between medium and soft, and went with medium. The mattress I've got feels even firmer than the medium in store. Need to give it a bit longer before deciding whether or not to return. I have had this mattress for a few months now and honestly wish I hadn't bought it. I felt amazing in the shop but as I've slept on it, an indentation of my body has quite quickly formed. Also, the more I sleep on it, the more dense and firm it feels which is just not comfortable. Also, because it has a pillow top it is not flippable. I wish I had just gone with the 500 1000 spring mattress. I think they suit me better. So if you don't want to feel like you're lying in a dip, don't buy this mattress!

Whilst the mattress is comfortable, it is a lot firmer than I had originally anticipated based on the one in the store. We ordered the medium, and were warned that the mattress would need some time to "relax" when we first receive it. However, I have found the cushioned topper has relaxed insofar as it now seems to have flattened and doesn't offer the same softness that it had done previously. The outside edges also slope outwards, making the bed feel smaller, and needing thicker pillows due to this.

Genuine review, this mattress is brilliant. Every evening and every morning I think, wow. Why did I choose it? I like the fact that it's a sprung mattress (can't be doing with memory foam) but for me it was important that this mattress uses natural materials (especially wool) for the filling. It's a small thing, but sleeping on natural materials rather than oil-based, synthetic, plastic fillings is important. I'd rather sleep on something natural than something derived from oil.

A really quality product which was purchased to complement an orthopaedic bed (also purchased in store). The mattress felt so good we bought an extra one for the spare room; after all, why should our guests not benefit too? After years of disappointing memory foam I wanted to go back to a spring mattress. I picked this as my favourite whilst trying the mattresses out in store, it then came top of the list of recommended mattresses following the sleep match test in store. The test was not wrong. I've slept well on this mattress so am generally happy with it. But it does have a noticeable dip where I sleep so I've tried to sleep on different sides of the mattress each night to reduce this. I've also turned it (not flipped it) each week. Maybe this is part of the 'settliing' as I've been using it less than a month. Also, be aware it is a deep mattress so you may need new fitted sheets. It's also a bit of a climb to get into bed but I quite like that.

The mattress is very comfortable and and supports my lower back well. It has the right amount of sinking feeling at the same time as being supportive. The only thing I would say is that the middle zip - where the two sides join - can feel a little like you're being pulled into the middle of the mattress if you get too close to it. If you remain on each side then this doesn't happen and it isn't a major issue. overall i'm happy with the purchase.

Very comfortable pillow top mattress. Slightly firmer than another medium of the same make I have, I think, but mattresses do take a little while to settle in. Deep but not the deepest so easier to find sheets to fit. Love the brand, really high standard. Weve now bought another one of these online from Dreams (after buying our first one instore) for another bedroom- the mattress is so comfy! The firm pillowtop one is a great compromise for us as I like a firm mattress and husband prefers medium- the pillowtop provides the extra softness for him. This is the most uncomfortable mattress I have ever slept on its is supposed to be medium.. The most comfortable mattress I have slept on. Despite weight difference, my partner and I find this mattress suits us both. We were surprised that the softest mattress was most comfortable. Overall a comfortable mattress, the pillow top makes it extra soft. However, you have to wait a while for it to soften up, the person in the store said 3 months to get to the feel of the one in store. About a month in and still waiting to get to that point. Although, still comfortable straight away. In the summer I am finding it a little warm, especially compared to the gel tops.

Pleased with mattress and finding it very comfortable. The only negatives are that I find it quite warm (my wife is happy with this aspect!) and slightly worried that a visible ridge is forming down the middle of the bed. Haven't yet noticed it when lying in the bed, so hoping it won't become a problem, but it is a something of a worry after reading other reviews.

This is a pillow top mattress which is the same as my previous mattress. This is definitely my favourite type of mattress. The pillow part is slightly softer than the main mattress which makes the whole mattress more comfy. You seem to sink into the pillow top part and then are held by the main part of the mattress. I would definitely recommend this mattress!

This matters is great for hip and shoulder pain. I noticed the difference the next morning, no waking up with aches and numbness. I do feel the price is rediculous for what it is 1500 for a double mattress. It is taking a while to adjust since my previous mattress was a futon style but im listened to how my body feels. This mattress is great for some people but gives me a little bit of lower back pain. It seems to be too soft and too rigid at the same time (which I realise makes no sense). Not entirely uncomfortable, but nothing to write home about. I know other people who sleep on it though and seem to love it! Guess it just depends on your back.
