Flaxby

Flaxby mattresses are sold exclusively by the popular retailer, Dreams. The collection is a more up-market premium brand within the lineup and uses an impressive array of comfortable and soft materials in the upper layers of their mattresses to ensure a natural and comfortable sleeping surface. Flaxby are focussed toward ensuring a greener and fresher sleep that is more environmentally friendly. That’s why they utilise 100% recyclable spring systems and natural fibres to help safeguard the environment for future generations.

A feature unique to Flaxby includes their new all-seasons lineup which sees a two sided mattress which has different comfort layers on each side, giving a “warmer” side and a “cooler” side.

Dunlopillo

Dunlopillo have been in the mattress “game” for nearly a century, dating back to 1929 when a scientist created what we know today as Dunlopillo Latex. The latex would form the backbone of all future mattresses and a staple of the industry as a whole.

The company has since gone under new ownership and sees itself as part of the Relyon group where it enjoys an enviable position as one of the market leaders in latex mattresses around the UK and worldwide. If you are looking for a mattress that possesses many of the qualities of memory foam without the downsides of heat build up, latex could be for you.

Flaxby Owner Satisfaction

Flaxby mattresses are some of the better reviewed in the industry achieving impressive scores on a continual basis that generally outperform the competition. Owners are particularly overjoyed because Flaxby is offering the great comfort and support that we all love but introduce multiple new features that help provide an enhanced sleep experience. Customers particularly enjoyed the all-season range which gave people a deep sleep all year round that kept them cool in summer and warm in winter, the perfect combination.

Customers also enjoyed the natural cotton, wool & hemp fillings that come as standard on many in the lineup with particular attention being drawn to the fantastic 5 year guarantee on most models.

Flaxby Supportiveness

Flaxby mattresses have a great deal of supportiveness thanks to the Cortec™ and DNAir pocket spring systems on offer within the lineup. The Flaxby range is what we consider to be a traditional lineup with typical high quality manufacturing processes that result in luxurious and supportive mattresses. Pocket springs have generally remained unrivaled over the years and are my own personal favourite support layer when it comes to offering good tension for back and neck support. Many of the products on offer are available with multiple tension options which means you have a choice around how firm you would like the product to be. Depending on how you sleep (front, back, side) to how much you weigh are all determinations when choosing the right supportiveness.

Flaxby Durability

Flaxby mattresses will typically perform better in terms of true longevity than many other mattress suppliers due to their large investment in good quality pocket spring support layers combined with tried and tested comfort layers of wool and silk. The combination of these materials gives customers confidence but also the retailer, Dreams. This is evident in their backing of this product lineup with the impressive 5 year guarantee that ensures long standing support in the event of any manufacturing defects. The price point for Flaxby may often price certain people out of the market who are looking for something a little cheaper, however, when you consider the lifespan and the cost per night of sleep as a result, the Flaxby offers a fantastic opportunity for sleepers thanks to its durability and comfort.

Dunlopillo Owner Satisfaction

Dunlopillo ranks highly on consumer satisfaction with numerous good and well-reviewed products across the entire lineup. Many consumers comment on how their Dunlopillo mattresses far exceed the average, with some lasting for over 20 years. In fact, with consumers happy with the comfort and tension of the mattress, the only real complaint is around the lack of turning handles on particular models. This does create a minor inconvenience when it comes to rotations but does help highlight just how impressive the lineup is when the largest vocal problem is around handles.

When you consider the life expectancy of a Dunlopillo mattress on average and look at the cost per night of sleep as a result, the entire range makes for incredible value for money.

Dunlopillo Supportiveness

Customers are largely happy with the support offered by these mattresses. Featuring a wide array of tensions from soft through to firm it means that there is always a Dunlopillo mattress suitable for you, regardless of body type and sleeping preference. The tension and supportiveness of these mattresses is offset by the top layer of the product being latex, which will offer a degree of softness and comfort within the upper layer of the mattress, helping to create a unique experience with the support layer below.

Dunlopillo mattresses also feature an impressive amount of edge support which allows you to make full use of the product. Many cheaper brands do not have this feature which means you do not have the confidence while sleeping close to the edge of the mattress where it feels like it would otherwise be “giving way”

Dunlopillo Durability

As mentioned within customer satisfaction, there are people still sleeping on a Dunlopillo mattress 20 years later. That alone tells you all you need to know about durability. Handcrafted within the UK and featuring hypoallergenic materials with a rugged yet soft cover, these mattresses are durable and well reviewed.

Dunlopillo mattresses tend to be a little more expensive than competing products but the latex upper layer brings a unique feature that many other brands have failed to emulate. Personally, we find the latex to be long lasting and have many benefits over competing memory foam products.

We purchased the Flaxby 14450 pillow top mattress from Dreams after trying out the range of Flaxby mattresses in store. We opted for the Superking size with the split medium/soft support and the zipped option (essentially two singles joined together). I prefer the medium support whereas my partner likes the softer feel. Bear in mind, these are heavy mattresses and having the split mattress option makes it far easier to rotate them, which you will need to do weekly for the first 3 months (then monthly thereafter). It has taken a long time for the mattress to fully bed in and feel comfortable to sleep on. If you're considering this mattress, be prepared for a full 6-8 weeks break in period to allow the materials to loosen up and conform to your body. When new, it felt very stiff with the sensation you're lying on top of the mattress, with not much give and with minimal support. My partner quickly got used to sleeping on her softer mattress, whereas with my medium feel mattress, I experienced lower back pain on and off for the first 4-5 weeks. The Dreams staff advised that the Flaxby mattresses do take a while to break in and conform to your body. Here's some tips that have worked well for us and are worth considering: Mattress support - this mattress really does deserve a quality bed base, preferably a pocket spring divan base. We initially used our old Superking bed frame with sprung slats. However, although the 14450 mattress is a deep mattress and should in theory work well on any bed base, we found that it did not gel that well with the sprung slats, as the mattress tended to sag slightly. We have now switched to a sprung divan base and it's made a big difference to the feel, comfort and support of the mattress. Pillows - we initially used our Tempur cloud pillows with the Flaxby but we have since switched to Levitex sleep posture pillows (we opted for the small size). This has made a world of difference - no more neck and back pain! Duvets - we've always liked having our own single duvets rather than sharing a larger duvet so we can better control our body temperatures. My partner uses a weighted duvet whereas I switched to a wool filled duvet. The Flaxby mattresses do offer better temperature control compared to our old Tempur mattress. It is still worth investing in a quality duvet to really get the best sleeping experience.

My last bed was a supersized king divan style base with an orthopaedic mattress which I had for the last 15 years and it was a bit too large for the flat I moved into a few years ago so thought it time to change over to a double. I have always wanted a chunky wooden framed bed with a nice soft mattress & finally decided to take the plunge and ordered a frame off the web in the same style as my other bedroom furniture and then started looking for a mattress that I liked and found this one Dreams which sounded just right. I can tell you after spending 15 years sleeping on what might as well have been a rock the new mattress is like sleeping on a cloud. The mattress gives me a tremendous amount of support, yet it has a nice soft finish to it that I just sink into when I get into bed at night. It is beautifully finished with handles on all four sides making it easy to rotate even though it is quite a heavy mattress. My only wish is that I had spotted the Moore Wooden chunky bedframe on the Dreams website before I had ordered the frame that I did because that looks a lot sturdier that the one I bought is. I do have one small problem though and that is that it isn’t only me that has fallen in love with the new mattress, so have the cats who spend the bulk of the day relaxing on it and get a bit disgruntled when it comes to bed time and I have to get into it but they soon find their way back onto it when they think I have fallen asleep. So it seems that it isn’t only me who now get a great night’s sleep on my new 6500 DNAir mattress! But prehaps I should have gone for the king size to accomopdate all of us.

I did the dreams exchange as the Tempur elite medium was far too firm as I have widespread arthritis and fibromyalgia. So glad I waited 7 weeks for the swap to this Harrison Spinks Flaxby 11150. Its all natural fibre fillings and sprung plus eco friendly with the added bonus of being handmade by British crafts people up in Yorkshire. The difference it has made is huge, now I sleep far better. Even though I opted for the soft double mattress it has 11150 springs in it so there is alot of support and it is not like a cheap flimsy soft mattress. It is more like a medium at first but is a wonderful mattress, I highly recommend it and yes its worth the money, even better at sales time. It has an odour at first, just open window and air mattress if poss, it soon fades, but at least the odour is natural. It is a dual season mattress, one side for autumn/winter the other for spring summer so thats a bonus as I can be a hot sleeper. It comes with a guarantee and clear instructions for rotating & turning for the first number of weeks especially (it has 8 handles for turning) , worth following as this mattress is top quality, you look after it and it will look after you for many years.Buy a good quality mattress protector as the mattress does have the dipping yarned buttons, wont interfere with your sleep though! I love it and so glad I did the swap as its for me i top quality, highly recommend this and a thankyou to the team at Dreams on Basford bank roundabout in Stoke On Trent.

Don’t buy a bed online! Two years ago we replaced our right year old bed with a Simba mattress (one of these online ones that comes vacuum packed). We both get hot at night and this memory foam didn’t help. It started to sag badly, I ended up under the chiro and I complained to Simba who replaced the mattress free of charge. New mattress started sagging with three months and I’m still suffering with a bad back under the chiro. As my back wasn’t improving the chiro suggested the mattress may not suit me and perhaps I needed something more supportive so in desperation (and really not wanting to spend money on another mattress so soon) we went to Dreams. Best thing we ever did. Back MASSIVELY better after just one night. Sales Manager Amy spent a lot of time going through our options. New bed creates less condensation in our room and we aren’t hot at night. Worth every penny, wish I’d done it sooner and I’ll never ever buy a bed online again. There maybe a X number of days you can try it (on Simba and Dreams) but the reality is very few of us will go to the effort of sending it back unless it’s really bad. You just live with it. Don’t make the same mistake I did. The bed is also British made with all natural fibres. No gels or foams. LOVE it!

I have a back condition. I bought this mattress some years ago and loved it. I needed a new mattress and stupidly purchased a different, very expensive one and regretted it. It had to be turned often but was too heavy for me so I ended up sleeping in a dip.The millennium doesn't need turning. I've given my mattress away and purchased a new millennium and i'm very comfortable. You don't want to get up though!

I first had a new Dunlopillo mattress (bed) in 1984 and I slept comfortably everafter. I reluctantly had to get rid in 1912 as i was downsizing and moving many miles down south taking only the two single beds in my spare room , which had nothing wrong with them but not as comfortable as I thought. I decided to return to what I knew and I'm so glad I did, my new mattress is heavenly!

This is our third Dunlopillo mattress in 40 years - we love them! The support of the Celeste is not too firm but feels very supportive and I??m 14st. The slightly softer top layer feels really ??snuggly?? without detracting from the firm support. It also makes the bed warmer throughout the night without being too warm.

Always wanted another one, and this is excellent! extremely comfortable and very happy with no more noise from springs, as this is all-latex - more expensive, but well worth saving up for!there were some cheaper deals around, but we needed this reasonably quickly, and were prepared to pay extra.

My first Dunlopillo mattress remained comfortable supportive from 1975 to 2022! Also, you never have to turn these mattressesIt might have lasted me out but I'm glad I bought this new one as it is even more comfortable, if that is possible.Very pleased with this new one.
