I tried the Sleep Story Luxury Firm Mattress on the shop floor and came away with a fairly narrow recommendation. This is a firm, conventional pocket-sprung mattress for people who want their back held level. Side sleepers looking for a cushioned shoulder pocket may struggle with it.
The construction is respectable for the money category. In king size it uses 1000 pocket springs, with reflex foam above for the comfort layer. That pairing gives it a proper hybrid structure, and I would trust it ahead of open coil or a basic reflex-only mattress for day-to-day support. It still does not feel like a premium spring unit, so the “Luxury” name is doing some heavy lifting.
What it is made from and how it handles
The showroom sample had a neat finish, with a micro-quilted knitted Soft as Silk fabric cover. The surface felt clean and slightly cushioned, though the foam has a practical, dense feel. Nobody should expect deep, hotel-style padding here. Firmness is clearly the headline.
Depth is 26 cm, and that matters in a dull but useful way. Standard fitted sheets are far less likely to become a problem. I also tried sitting near the border, and the DynamicEdge active side support did help the edge keep its shape under short-term pressure. I would still be cautious about judging long-term edge sag from a few showroom minutes.
The double-sided build is a genuine advantage for lifespan, provided it is actually maintained. The care guidance says to turn it over regularly and rotate it from head to toe every month. A double weighs 30 kg, a king 35 kg, and a super king 42 kg. Heavy work. The small single starts at 17 kg, with single at 20 kg and small double at 27 kg, so even the smaller sizes are not exactly featherweight.
Feel and support on the bed
Lying on my back, the Luxury Firm did what I expected it to do. The hips stayed up, the lumbar area felt supported, and the centre of the mattress did not dip away under me. Compared with an Emma Hybrid, it has a flatter and firmer shop-mattress feel, while the Emma usually feels softer through the top.
Side lying exposed its limits quickly. My shoulder met resistance quite early, and the reflex foam did not give the slow, padded sink that many side sleepers need. A heavier side sleeper may compress it a bit further, but lighter people could find it a little unforgiving around the upper body.
The cooling claims need caution. The cover did not feel hot during my test, and the knitted surface seemed breathable enough to the touch. A showroom trial cannot tell me how the foam behaves through a humid July night, so I would not buy it for cooling alone.
Who should shortlist it
Back sleepers are the natural fit, especially those who dislike a mattress that lets the pelvis drop. Front sleepers who want a stable surface may also get on with it, as long as firm really does mean comfortable to them.
Couples should think about two separate issues. Pocket springs normally control movement better than an open-coil unit, but I could not do a proper partner-disturbance test in store. The other issue is care: turning a 35 kg king mattress every month is a two-person job in most homes.
Slatted bases need checking before purchase. The gap between slats must be no wider than 7.5 cm, because wider spacing can cause dipping and may affect the guarantee position. The mattress also needs 4 hours airing before use to clear odour, then at least 4 hours for the springs to settle and the full size to come through. Normal settlement marks are part of the deal, so use a protector from day one.
My buying call
I would only put this on the shortlist for someone who specifically wants a firm, double-sided pocket-sprung mattress and accepts the monthly flipping routine. The strongest reason to buy it is durability logic: two usable sides should help spread wear over time. The weakest part is pressure relief. The top comfort layer feels competent, not plush.
The small single, single, small double, double, king and super king size range makes it easy to match to an existing frame, and the 26 cm profile keeps bedding simple. For a main bed used by a side sleeper, I would keep testing. For a back sleeper replacing an ageing open-coil mattress, this would feel like a clear step up.
