Hypnos builds the Bespoke Amber Mattress for Furniture Village, and it's a good Hypnos build for one kind of sleeper: a heavier back sleeper who wants extra firm. Everyone else should leave it. Extra firm is a specialist feel, and it's one-sided, so the side you get is the side you keep.
Hypnos springs, recycled fibres, made by hand
Inside are 1000 ReActive six-turn pocket springs in a king, with sustainable recycled fibres for the fillings. Hypnos makes it by hand in the UK, exclusively for Furniture Village. It's 23cm deep, no-turn and rated extra firm, and bespoke sizes are available on request.
I rate Hypnos: well made and fair for the money. Six-turn springs have more coils than the usual pocket spring, which gives a slightly more progressive push-back. The 1000 count is light for a king, and 23cm is on the shallow side, so this is a firm, lean build rather than a deep one.
Heavy back sleepers only, and check the price first
Owners mostly love it, calling it well made and comfortable. The one-star ratings come with no text at all, so there's nothing in them to weigh. If you're heavy and sleep on your back or front, the extra firm surface and Hypnos springs are a good combination. Avoid it if you sleep on your side or you're lighter; it will feel like a plank.
Check the price before you buy. Furniture Village is a pricey shop, and an exclusive name makes direct comparison hard, so compare it against Hypnos models of a similar spec sold elsewhere.
What to buy instead
For most people, a medium-firm Hypnos pocket-sprung mattress is the better buy from the same maker. If extra firm is what you need on a smaller budget, the Highgrove Solar Orthopocket 1500 is turnable and pocket sprung, with handles.
