Tests & Verdict

Here we collect tests, guides and product reviews so that you can create a picture of what others think about the product. This analysis and review is based on my experience and 12+ years of industry insight.

Gel has naturally cooling properties which mean that the mattress is a great option for those that typically get too warm at night.

Additionally, the 2600 pocket springs are of high quality, proving to be a better option than reflex foam and open coil providing a better sleep experience with (typically) better longevity.

Finally, the hypoallergenic components within the mattress will help ensure you have a healthy and hygienic sleep.

This is a high quality mattress and that results in a higher than average price point. For those who care about their sleep, this is a cracking investment, but for those on a budget may want to look elsewhere. My argument has always been that we spend around 30% of our life sleeping, you should really treat your sleep as an investment.

Why our sleep experts loved it

The ActiGel® Polar 2600 Mattress is one of the more exclusive and premium mattresses in the Dreams lineup. Part of the Therapur range, this mattress has exclusivity and won't be found anywhere else. Not only are reviews positive but the mattress has also won the award from Good Housekeeping Institute in 2021 which should give additional confidence for those looking to buy.

One of the many problems that people often report with comfort layers like memory foam is that they find themselves getting too hot, in part, due to foams heat retention, many mattress manufacturers try to offset this with cooling fabrics as a outer layer, but there's a better way, and that's with gel which this mattress comes with.

Gel comfort layers, much like memory foam, offer many of the bounce back and comfort features but with improved airflow and temperature regulation.

The product also features hypoallergenic materials which will help prevent allergies while providing more than enough comfort.

From the support layer we have a hybrid pairing of both pocket springs and soft tech springs, these work together to contour to your body's every movement. while reducing roll-together.

The TheraPur ActiGel® Polar 2600 Mattress also comes with a pillow top for a further layer of comfort which works alongside the layers beneath.

Reviews for the product are strong with over 600 reviews and an impressive, market leading 95% customer satisfaction. The positive reviews make note of the even support that you feel when lying down, giving measured and full-body comfort. The negative reviews are few and far between, but all focus around the same issue of firmness. It appears that those who tried in store have a different expectation to what was delivered when it comes to the tension. There are a number of reasons this occurs and it's one we come across frequently. Ultimately a mattress in store has been laid on and used, in some cases, for years. That's going to give a different firmness and comfort than something brand new out of the factory. The good news is that with time to soften, the mattress will fall in line with in-store customers expectations and result in a comforting and medium tensioned sleep.

*some elements of this review and the reviews supported by customers were offered against the previous model known as the Therapur ActiGel Plus Rejuvenate 2200 Mattress. The TheraPur ActiGel® Polar 2600 Mattress is an upgraded model that takes everything that was great about the response and added more springs for enhanced support and better body contouring.

Suitability

*Assuming average weight, suitability will vary dependant on body type, use the quiz above for a more tailored guide.
  • Back Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • The amount of support offered from a mattress will vary depending on the firmness of the tension and the type of support layer used. Based on a person of average build.
  • Side Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • If you sleep on your side you typically need a supportive tension that is not too firm, nor too soft. This is because your hips and shoulders need adequate sinkage.
  • Stomach Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Stomach sleepers need a reasonable amount of tension in the base support layer to adequately offer body contouring and help prevent aches and pains. Results will vary based on your build.

Performance

  • Breathability
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Mattresses that feature breathable materials help promote airflow and keep you cool making for a more hygienic night's sleep.
  • Turning on mattress
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Certain materials like memory foam can make it difficult to move about on the mattress while you toss and turn. Same too for pillow tops which can create a cloud like sensation which can make manoeuvrability challenging.
  • Stability
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Depending on the type of support layer in place can have an impact on stability, edge to edge support and roll together prevention. Pocket springs of a firmer tension will have better stability than open coil soft tension, for example.

Odour

  • Initial Odour
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Materials in mattresses, particularly memory foam and rolled bed-in-a-box mattresses can have an initial odour, this is typically short term and reduces considerably within 24 hours.
  • Long Standing Odour
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Certain materials inside different mattresses can produce a small odour. Typically this is short term rather than long standing but there are minor exceptions.

I would not give this mattress any stars but the option is not given, we selected this mattress after using the sleep match machine which in Dreams own words (It's a super smart bit of wizardry that chooses the right mattress just for you and the way you sleep. ) this is the most uncomfortable hardest mattress I have ever had I explained to the sales advisor that I suffer with neck and spine problems and could not sleep on a hard mattress she said that the machine recommended a medium mattress we stupidly put our trust in this marvellous machines hands the sales advisor showed us various mattresses from the list that the machine had recommended we chose this mattress and was assured not to worry as we had the 40 days returns policy at no point was it explained that we would have to sleep on the mattress for 30 nights before it could be returned and loose the difference in money if you chose a cheaper mattress. Two days after receiving the new mattress we returned to the store saying I cannot sleep as the mattress is so hard my pressure points are numb and I have pins and needles we were told that the problem is out of there hands and I would need to contact customer services after finally getting through to customer services I was told that they would prefer us to sleep on the mattress for 30 nights to enable the springs to settle down I said when I tried the mattress in the store nobody told us to expect such a difference between the stores mattress and the one we would receive also on our second visit to the store my husband noticed that we had in fact been sold a firm mattress as I am so upset with the service we have received I asked for my money to be refunded I was told this would not happen I would need to choose another mattress and either pay the difference if it was more expensive or loose the money if it was cheaper and also pay for the delivery Please ensure when buying a mattress from Dreams you read all of the small print that you are given once you have made your purchase and also read the reviews on the website as you will see other people have had the same experience as myself, do use the Sleep Match machine as another sales advisor on our second visit to the store said how can a machine tell you what mattress you need I have been selling mattresses for years and do not go by what the machine says.

Having already bought a mattress of a well known make from a well known retailer that unfortunately did not live up to it's claim by the manufacturer and my wife was unable to sleep on it from the first night, i was therefore unsure about going into a large business park retailer like Dreams because to be honest we had no idea as to what we should be buying. After a few minutes a member of the sales asked if we needed some help, after a brief discussion we were shown to, what looked like two single beds pushed together with a canopy, turns out it was a device that when we laid on it the sensors in the mattress measured all sorts about the wife and myself and all we had to do was lay there and look up at a screen on the canopy that gave us instructions. After a few minutes it produced what type of mattress we should buy, so our sales lady showed us a selection from one end of the price scale to the other, we were given a couple of lush pillows and were told to try out as many mattresses as we wanted. After a while the wife and i agreed on the TheraPur and our sales lady told us that delivery could be done in two days, she explained about their insurance which for the money is fantastic so i added that, just to finish off i also bought two of those lush pillows. I spent 3 times what the other mattress cost but from night one it has been faultless, everything our sales lady had told us was spot on, i only whished i had gone to dreams first.

Ok, so this is about a mattress, and the problem with reviewing a mattress is unless you constantly spend time in different beds its almost impossible to compare, and if you did you would have to be a voyeur to lift up the bed clothes to see who made it, who does that! If your reading this its because you are already considering to buy a new mattress for certain reasons, probably its past its best or your health isn't as robust as it was, and you are looking for more comfort whilst sleeping, this may be due to back ache, which again may have various causes, mine was due to sciatica, and if you look on the net the NHS show you exercises to help/cue this which they did. Having said that we bought what was probably the most expensive, over 2000 pocket springs, very comfortable, but you need to buy what you can afford bearing in mind that you spend a third of your life in it. Dreams are people that specialise in beds, and yes you can probably buy something cheaper elsewhere, but Dreams have a system to measure posture and body weight to give you the best selection to chose from and in this day and age that's what you want. "Sweet dreams"

Husband has MS I have painful arthritis so it was important we brought the perfect mattress. We purchased a memory foam mattress online due to Covid 6 mths ago and it was a disaster. It was so hard we both woke up each morning very sore, very stiff and in pain SO we decided as lockdown eased to visit our Dreams Store in Ipswich. The experience was wonderful, Covid secure and staff were SO helpful with advice but were in no way pushy. We did the Sleep Match analysis and again were very impressed. It gave 8 option mattresses which were a good match for us. We tried each mattress and with guidance from the Dreams Staff member chose our favourite which was not the most expensive one. We chose the Therapur Actigel Lpus Mattress, it was delivered 6 days later by two delivery staff who were friendly, Covid careful and placed the new mattress on our base and took the old one away. I cannot recommend the Therapur mattress OR the staff of Dreams enough. We are delighted with the mattress and thoroughly advise anyone considering a new mattress to visit Dreams Five stars all round Many thanks everyone.

Ive had this mattress now for roughy 3 weeks and so far have no complaints. The staff was very helpful and was always around when we wanted more information. They was all very professional and gave us a fresh bottle of water to keep me refreshed. The mattress its self is a massive upgrade from our old one (it was around 10 years old). I just sank into the memory form. I did notice a difference in the first week of using the mattress as the memory foam changed to our shape. This did make it a little more uncomfortable but once we rotated it like advised it was just like we had first brought. I would highly recommend that you buy this mattress as I dont think Id ever experience a good night sleep until I had it. Ensure you follow the recommendations with maintaining your mattress and it will stay as good as new. When I need to buy a mattress again dreams will be the first and only place I will go to get one.

Bought this TheraPur ActiGel Polar 2600 Matress to replace a mattress that had been sagging for a few months. Tried a few mattresses in store, and this one suited us best. Delivery was excellent, and the 2 man team were friendly and took away wrappings, and our old mattress. We left it to air as recommended, and the initial odour has dissipated. At first the mattress was firmer than we anticipated, but after 3 weeks of use (and turning as recommended), it has now been worn in, and I particularly have slept so much better. The mattress is supportive and comfortable, and love the pillow top and the no sag/give edges. We paired it with the TheraPur mattress topper, and together they have delivered sleep for me without being woken by tropical moments! Also want to say a big Thank-you to the staff at the Crewe Dreams store, who were so helpful. HIghly recommend this mattress.

My wife and I are sleeping better since our new bed/mattress/pillows arrived. We visited Dreams in Fareham a while ago to check out the options for a new bed/mattress/pillows. We were impressed by the welcome in store, the new tech that scanned our posture lying on a bed and then recommended options for our review. The staff - Ed, Jennifer and Neil, were plain speaking about the options and about the costs - and it seemed clear they wanted us to make decisions that suited us and understood our budget and needs for a good night's sleep. Of course it helps that sales come with a trial period - because when it comes down to it it is about 'A Good Nights Sleep - many of them' and you can only check that out with the trial. So if you recall the first words of this review - Of course it's 5-star because we are enjoying better sleep. Thank you to the team who helped us get there

This is the best mattress I have ever owned and I have had quite a few in my lifetime, the last mattress was a medium/firm sealy and although I loved it at first, but after a while it started to give me really bad lower back pain, and also made my thighs hurt and go numb when I slept on my side, but this mattress from night one has changed my life, i admit at first I was a bit sceptical because when I put the mattress on my bed and sat on it I sunk right in to it, I was worried it might be a bit too soft for me but I was so wrong, it is so comfortable and a lot cooler than my last mattress, it supports you in all the right places whether you sleep on your back or your side, it is literally like sleeping on a cloud, I highly recommend this mattress, its by far the best investment I have ever made.

Very high quality bed, this is for me, the perfect balance between firm and soft. When lying down on it you feel completely evenly supported but the top gel layer is cushioning and has a gentle sink that lets you get comfortable. Its surprisingly soft yet firm - you can feel its support when lying down on it, but when you sit on the bed you can feel it become softer and more of your weight is focused. For me its been perfect because I have problems with my shoulders and Im a side sleeper, but with this bed I dont wake up in pain. I tried a lot of mattresses and each one was soft but left my hips and spine unsupported - giving you that kink like pain. This mattress has none of that, my shoulder is fully cushioned whilst my whole body is correctly supported

From the moment that we entered the Crewe store we where put at ease by Customer Service advisor (Jacky), who after listening to our reasons for wanting help in improving our sleep time, offered us coffee and explained the process and that it would actually be the correct bed that would select us. A new experience on the computer aided bed that would take measurements and positioning options. We tested 3 or 4 mattresses, ultimately selecting the initial mattress as the one that we were both comfortable with. Everything from that point followed like a well oiled machine, finance, delivery, recycling of old mattress. We came away from the store thinking that we had been well looked after, Now experiencing the comfort and support of our new mattress. Thank you.

It's coming up to 30 days since this mattress was delivered and unfortunately, it has not been all that great. We already had a metal bed frame with wooden slats that support the mattress. But this mattress is twice the thickness of our previous one and is so much higher that my feet don't touch the floor if I sit on the side of the bed and actually getting in to the bed at night has turned in to a scramble. I could do with a step to help! I have never had a bed that is so ridiculously high, I can only assume that the bases in the Dreams show room must be lower to accommodate such a mammoth mattress. So I'm probably going to have to ask to change it and end up losing money, so please check how high your bed will be if only getting a mattress.

This i have to say has been my best purchase of any kind in years, i am someone who always slept a constant 6/7 hours per night ( but interupted ) all my life, however this has been a game changer, it somehow keeps my body temreture just right and i now sleep a good 8 hours ( work days ) and free time can sleep 10hrs, honestly I swear this has had such a possitive effect in a short time I feel so rested, tbh its unreal. All i can say is go try it in dreams as they have technology there to try before you buy and the reasurance that if for some reason ( i cant imagine what though ) you can replace it if its not for you after a period of time, so if your after a new matteress i recommend it. A big
