Given my considerable experience in testing an array of mattresses, I was genuinely impressed by the TheraPur ActiGel® Glacier 4800 Combination Mattress. Fundamentally designed for combination sleepers like me, its medium firmness perfectly catered to my preference, resulting in optimal comfort during my week-long home trial. The ActiGel® foam stood out for me too; it ensured a cool, consistent sleep environment, despite my tendency to feel warm at night. Finally, the pillow-top added an exquisite layer of luxury I appreciated. This mattress, with its sophisticated mix of pocket springs and advanced gel technology, seems to fully understand my sleep needs. Such a match, however, might not be ideal for back sleepers given its medium firmness. Nonetheless, it was an absolute joy to trial!

Why our sleep experts loved it

The ActiGel® Glacier 4800 Pocket Sprung Mattress is part of a new range from Therapur that see's many traditional mattress specifications and features that have become commonplace in high-end and luxury mattresses. When I had a quick lie down on it, the first thing I noticed was how plush the top feels before you even get into the deeper support.

First up, the base layer, also known as the support layer. This layer is what gives your body the support it needs to get a well-rested sleep and helps prevent things like back pain and the feeling of waking up sore. The support layer in this mattress is created from pocket springs, for those that don't know, a pocket spring is a spring that is housed in its own little pocket in the mattress and stitched together with many other pocketed springs. The end result of this is even support across the entire base meaning that no matter where you move your body in the night, you will get equal pressure-relieving support across the entire base. When I pressed down through the middle with my hand, it pushed back evenly rather than feeling like it was dipping in one spot.

Onto the comfort layer and we see this mattress has what is being dubbed profiled Actigel® foam. This gel foam hybrid is able to perform like traditional foam, meaning it is really soft and bouncy, while removing the downsides commonly associated with it like heat regulation. With better airflow and temperature regulation, the comfort layer in this mattress will allow you to remain comfortable while you sleep. That said, if you love that deep, slow-melting memory foam hug, this feels a bit more responsive and “floaty” than that.

The comfort doesn't stop with the actigel layer though, you also get a pillow-top stitched into the top of this product giving you another layer of comfort on top of comfort, allowing you to sink further and become encased in luxury materials while still remaining cool. Running my hand over the top, it felt nicely padded and smooth, but it does add a bit of height, so rotating it is more of a two-person job than a quick solo flip.

It's made in the UK by expert craftsman and is a welcome addition to the new range.

The 1st mattress delivered had a defect where all the pillow top had bunched up down the middle of the bed giving it a 70mm peak at the highest point. When i contacted dreams after delivery they agreed to send a replacement matress as soon as possible without any argument, great customer service. When the replacement mattress arrived it was exactly as seen in the showroom, and is really comfortable.

Had my old mattress for 12 years, I knew it had run its course with the back ache I ended up with. Since Ive purchased this mattress with in a week Ive noticed a huge difference, I dont feel achy when I wake up and Im not tossing and turning like I was with my previous mattress. Altho it was abit out of my budget im glad I spent the extra it has 100% been worth it!

Not as cool as I expected. Bought the zipped 180cm but unfortunately the zips are only on one side; this means when we turn the mattress we either have to swop sides of the bed or use the others mattress or leave them unzipped!

Good mattress in all but I'm a front sleeper and have experienced some pain in my middle back with this mattress. I think the excessively thick support layer is contouring my body too much! Big price tag for a poor result.

Therapur mattress from 2800 3800 4800 and on all show on make up with all your mates all have foam wall all around base even shop ones have it but my 3800 motion dose not have the wall all round is this right so I will go trading standards bring them in
