The comfort and quality are apparent straight away, but in terms of depth and sheer value for money, the mattress just feels a little shallow.
Design & First Impressions
The TEMPUR Ease 22 has a clean, modern feel. With a white and grey knit outer, it looks sharp and current, suiting both minimalist and modern bedroom decor styles really well. The fabric is silky smooth to the touch, and the seams are neat and tidy. It exudes that solid build quality you’d expect from the TEMPUR brand, with no cheap-feeling areas or rough patches. That said, the mattress is only 22cm deep, which makes it on the skinny side for mattresses in this price range. It does mean it’s lighter and easier to shift around, which is handy, and pairs nicely with a lower bed base. But at 22cm, it just doesn’t have the heft and volume you’d expect from something this expensive.
Construction & Materials
The TEMPUR Ease 22 is constructed in three layers of distinct foam, each with a clear purpose. The top layer is 3cm of TEMPUR Adapt, which is the same slow response, pressure-adaptive viscoelastic foam first used by NASA that has made TEMPUR mattresses so popular. Underneath is 9cm of memory foam for extra contouring comfort, and then 10cm of Reflex Foam with a denser cell structure to offer body support. The three layers work in unison to create the medium-firm feel, with each foam performing its own clear job. The foam build is as you’d expect from TEMPUR, but since the mattress is on the shallow side, there’s less sheer material than other mattresses in the same price bracket.
Comfort & Feel
You know it’s a TEMPUR when you lay on it. It has that slow-responding hug that you get with all of their mattresses, moulding gradually to your shape to deliver remarkable body-hugging comfort. The pressure relief is instant, and your weight is spread out evenly, with no sudden dips or lumps as you change positions. The overall medium to firm rating is spot on. It supports well without feeling too firm, and offers a level of comfort you just can’t get from more traditional mattresses. There’s not a hint of movement, noise, or roll-together effect. What is also impressive is that the bed felt as fresh in the morning as it did when you first got into it. One thing to point out is that the shorter profile does mean that it can lack a little of that plush, sink-in feeling you get from thicker mattresses.
Performance & Support
The TEMPUR Ease 22 is very impressive for daily use. One of the things I really like about this TEMPUR mattress is its outstanding motion isolation. If your partner rolls over in the night, you are unlikely to be woken up, even if you are a light sleeper. The Reflex Foam base means the support is consistent and plush across the entire bed. I think that back sleepers and side sleepers will love this mattress, but those who sleep on their stomachs may prefer something firmer. In a few nights of sleeping, there was no dip in the support, no soft spots, and no sagging. As a good all-rounder, the TEMPUR Ease 22 is not bad. However, it could do with a little extra thickness to make the comfort more luxurious and justify its price better.
Temperature Regulation
TEMPUR Adapt uses billions of open cells to let air circulate, and it does a pretty good job of keeping a neutral temperature. It is a lot cooler than those old-school memory foam models and stayed fresh all night. It’s not the coolest on the market, but given it’s a solid slab of dense foam, that’s to be expected. The outer cover can be removed and washed, which should help keep things clean and fresh as well.
Practical Features
The outer cover of this TEMPUR mattress is removable and machine washable, a welcome feature for anyone who worries about hygiene. It zips off easily and doesn’t lose its fit when washed, and being single-sided means maintenance is minimal. Just rotate the top to the toe every few months. Like most TEMPUR mattresses, it arrives vacuum-sealed in a bag, but the mattress expands quickly, with little to no odour. The mattress comes with a 10-year warranty on the mattress and 2 years on the cover.
Everyday Use
The TEMPUR Ease 22 Mattress is very good in every day use. It feels durable, stable and well made. You’ll find the mattress really does support the natural curvature of your spine and it also absorbs motion very well. The finish is crisp, and it holds its shape on the edges, while the feel of the foam didn’t seem to change during the test period. The only minor niggle is that it just doesn’t feel as luxurious as the thicker TEMPUR mattresses because of its slimmer depth.
Who It Suits
TEMPUR Ease 22 Mattress is perfect for sleepers who love precision engineered contouring comfort in a medium-firm feel. It’s a great mattress for those who sleep on their side or back, especially if you are looking for pressure relief without too much sinking. Couples will appreciate the lack of motion transfer, and those who prefer a low bed frame will find it a nice match. It’s also great for those who want the TEMPUR experience but at a slightly lower point in their range.
Who It Doesn’t Suit
TEMPUR Ease 22 Mattress might not be ideal for those who prefer thicker, more plush, and layered mattresses. Stomach sleepers who need a completely flat, hard surface to sleep on will also not find this one to their liking. It’s also on the slimmer side, so some shoppers will feel they should have more body and depth for the price. This TEMPUR mattress isn’t a bad buy, but it doesn’t feel quite as big and lavish as you’d expect from something in this price range.
Verdict
The TEMPUR Ease 22 Mattress has the signature TEMPUR mattress comfort, weightless pressure relief and superb motion isolation. The medium-firm feel is spot on and well-engineered for a classic TEMPUR feel. The build quality, materials and temperature regulation are all top-notch. However, at only 22cm deep, it lacks the size and heft you would expect from a mattress of this price. The TEMPUR Ease 22 is a great mattress in terms of support, build quality and everyday use. It’s a sophisticated and supportive mattress that will deliver the classic TEMPUR experience. However, at this price, value-conscious buyers will hope for a bit more depth and material for the money. As far as comfort, quality and everyday use goes, this is an excellent mattress, but a little lacking compared to the brand’s best models.
