Why our sleep experts loved it
I got my hands on the Sleepeezee Backcare Deluxe 1000 Pocket Mattress in-store and spent a good bit of time pressing into it, sitting on the edge, and having a quick lie down in my usual back and side positions. It is made up of 1000 pocket springs, which offer orthopaedic support and lower back support to relieve pressure on your spine. When I pushed my palm into the surface you can feel the pocket springs reacting in a more ‘individual’ way than an open coil, which is what you want if you share a bed. The 26cm deep mattress also includes turning handles to help you turn without waking your partner, with a double-sided mattress for long-term use on either side, and I do like seeing that because it usually means it will hold its shape better over time. The mattress is handcrafted in the UK from specially selected components, and comes complete with a 5-year guarantee, although at this sort of price point I do sometimes hope for a longer guarantee if I am being picky.
The Sleepeezee Backcare Deluxe 1000 Pocket Mattress is a firm mattress, ideal for people who prefer a firmer mattress. Lying on my back, it felt properly supportive through the lower back, the sort of ‘keeps you up’ feel rather than letting you sink in. On my side though, I could feel that firmness building around the shoulder a bit, so if you are a lighter side sleeper (say under about 70kg) I would expect it to feel on the hard side. The mattress is hand-tufted to ensure the mattress stays in good condition for years to come. Running my hand across the top quality damask fabric, it felt nice and traditional rather than stretchy and modern, but it is not the softest cover I have come across either. It is hypoallergenic and resistant to dust mites. It has been designed with comfort in mind and has been manufactured in the UK using traditional methods.
The Sleepeezee Backcare Deluxe 1000 Pocket Mattress also comes with an orthopaedic support system that helps to align your body whilst you sleep, this can help reduce snoring and improve circulation helping you to wake up. For me personally, the big win here is the firm, no-nonsense support, but the trade-off is you do not get that plush, pressure-relieving feel that some people want around the hips and shoulders.
