On aggregated owner reviews, Dormeo scores higher: 5.0 against 4.7 out of 5.

Head to head

Both ranges are sprung throughout, so the difference is in the comfort layers on top and in price. Only Sleepeezee offers latex, in 1 model. Sleepeezee runs from soft to extra firm, and Dormeo runs from soft-medium to medium-firm. Sleepeezee covers more of the firmness scale, which helps if two sleepers need different feels. Sleepeezee is clearly the cheaper way in; Dormeo's range starts well above it. But at the top end Sleepeezee goes further, so it also has the more premium options. Sleepeezee's owner score rests on far more reviews (5,602 against 1), so treat Dormeo's number as the less settled of the two.

Sleepeezee

Sleepeezee has been making mattresses in the UK since 1924, and is one of only two mattress brands in the country to hold a Royal Warrant for supply to the Royal Household. The company is based in Rochester, Kent, and still manufactures its beds in the UK today, which is something that has become increasingly rare in a market now dominated by imported bed in a box products.

The range is broad and covers pocket sprung, hybrid and memory foam models, with the Hotel Collection and the Cooler collections sitting at the more popular end of the lineup. Sleepeezee also licenses a Jeff Banks range that brings a designer name to the traditional pocket sprung mattress format.

Dormeo

Dormeo first popped up on our radar back in the early 2000’s, finding different avenues to market than traditional with their frequent TV advertising and push toward their own independent store over the conventional retailer derived market. Dormeo typically sells mid to high range products.

Regardless of your budget, there’s likely to be something suitable for a reasonable price point.

Sleepeezee owner satisfaction

Owners are mostly happy with their Sleepeezee, with comfort the thing they write about most. "Firm but not too firm", one owner wrote, and "like sleeping on a cloud" is a phrase that keeps turning up. Bad backs come up a lot too, usually from an owner saying the aches have eased: "No more back pain in the morning", as one put it.

The main complaint is firmness that does not match the label, and it runs both ways. "It is far too soft to be advertised as a firm", one owner wrote of a firm-rated pocket sprung model, while another headed their review "Much firmer than you think". Several also found the mattress that arrived firmer than the one they had tried in the shop.

A smaller number report a dip forming early: one owner wrote that theirs "had dipped in the middle after a few weeks". The trial period varies by retailer, and a few owners who wanted to swap were frustrated at having to wait 30 days before they could exchange.

Sleepeezee supportiveness

Sleepeezee builds its mattresses around pocket spring units in most of the range, with counts running from about 1,000 in the entry level models up to 9,500 in the higher end Memory Ultimate range. The higher spring counts are not just a marketing number; they genuinely improve how closely the mattress contours to the body, which matters more for lighter sleepers who need the springs to react to less pressure.

Above the springs, Sleepeezee uses natural fillings such as wool and silk on the better models, which adds a layer of give without softening the core support. The firmness options run from soft through to extra firm, so most buyers will find a version that suits their preferred feel.

Sleepeezee durability

As a UK manufacturer with a hundred year trading history, Sleepeezee has the kind of build quality that is hard to find in newer direct to consumer brands. The mattresses are hand tufted on the better models, which stops the fillings from shifting over time and is the main reason traditional mattresses last longer than their budget counterparts.

The Royal Warrant is not handed out to brands whose products fall apart, and the consumer mattresses use the same construction methods as the ones Sleepeezee supplies to the Royal Household. Some owners are on their second or third Sleepeezee and say how long the last one went: "My last sleepeezee lasted 30 years", one wrote, and another said their old one "lasted 15yrs". Others report a dip forming within the first weeks or months: one owner wrote that theirs "dips and sags after about six months".

Dormeo owner satisfaction

One owner of the Octasmart Premium Hybrid Plus, four weeks in, reported "slowly seeing an improvement in my sleep and feeling better rested".

Dormeo supportiveness

Traditionally we judge a mattress manufacturer's support by the layer denoted to it and in the case of Dormeo this looks to be primarily pocket springs as a base layer. Pocket springs are market leading and outperform equivalent open coil and reflex foam units, they achieve this by having better body contouring, less settlement issues and better durability.

Dormeo durability

The Octasmart Premium Hybrids at Bensons for Beds carry a 5 year guarantee, and Dormeo quotes longer warranties on its own site (both checked October 2026). This is important because without a warranty you will be unprotected in the years that follow.

I was just passing Dreams and having had a mattress for nearly 9 years didn't realise that it should be replaced having seen the advertising from the doorway. Rayanne immediately approached me with a smile and warm welcome to find out what I needed. I didn't really know and assuring me with her knowledge she explained how the process worked with regards to finding a new mattress to specifically suit my needs without any pressure, jargon or hard sales push. This was a fresh revelation. It was like she was a professional expert here to advise and guide. She showed me the mattress test that would give me some ideas to what would suit my body, preferred sleeping position and budget. All this was done whilst reassuring me of their Covid arrangements to ensure safety and make me feel safe and reassured. After using the machine for 3 minutes she went through the recommended mattresses. She was not rushed, but to the point, politely and in a friendly manner. She made me feel relaxed and not pressured into buying but with such professionalism, knowledge and guidance I knew that I now needed a new mattress. I tried several (with my own pillowcase cover that was sprayed) and she allowed me to go back and try them again to make sure I was happy with the purchase. She reiterated that even after the mattress was delivered I still had time to change my mind. Such a great experience. Relaxed, professional and knowledgeable. This is how all sales staff should be and what a great employee Rayanne is! More like Rayanne please!! I be back in eight years time to buy again!! PS Since buying the mattress (3 weeks ago) I have had the best sleep ever. The mattress was actually half the cost of the previous one I bought (from a reputable high street store)! I'm coming back to Dreams in future!

My fiancé and I had recently moved into our apartment. We were very very keen to spoil ourselves on a new mattress as we are very much under the impression that you spend a third of your life sleeping. We decided to visit your Wandsworth bridge road branch in which we were welcomed in a friendly and warm manner by Riccardo. Firstly, he offered us something to drink in which we then had a chat around what we were looking for. He then advised us to give the sleep match tool a go so we could pin point the exact mattress to our specific needs. Once the process was completed he then showed us all the mattresses that the the tool advised on. Very patiently he carried around two pillows as myself and my fiancé tried out all the mattresses. Having a budget in mind from the start it was due the expertise of Riccardo that we decided to go over our budget and really spoil ourselves on a top end mattress, which we purchased. With regards to the delivery, unfortunately our order was placed on the 22nd of March, a few days before the lockdown. This ultimately had a massive impact on our delivery day which was meant to be on the 15th of April but due to COVID-19 we only managed to receive our order on the 8th of June. All I can say was that Dreams did keep us up to date and we were very much aware of the issues. We are very happy with our new mattress and our sleep has never been better, well worth the wait. Thanks so much! Regards Andy

I’m leaving this review to be as helpful to future buyers as humanly possible…the struggle is real! I started my journey at dreams with a Therapur 2600 polar mattress. Sadly it was WAY too firm for me (I’m 5ft 9 and 11stone). Gave me shoulder and neck ache and left me tossing and turning throughout the night. It was considerably firmer than the showroom model too. On the plus side, the cooling technology really did seem to work. Sent night sweats packing! I exchanged via the 100 night comfort and planned to go for the therapur 4600 (medium support) which seemed to have a much thicker topper with more give. Previously I ignored any mattresses in store labelled ‘soft’ as I wanted a medium comfort level. The manager of the store talked me in to trying the Beatrice (one of his favs). Although labelled ‘soft’, it has a very supportive base mattress with a memory foam softer topper which allows the body to sink in (stopping shoulder aches) yet isn’t overly soft due to the support from beneath. All in all, the comfort level of this mattress is ‘just right’. No more tossing and turning. Hooray! I would definitely describe it as a medium support, not soft. It’s also wonderfully thick so if you like to sleep high up, this is a great choice. (Stepladder may be required if under 5ft 5 though)…Works perfectly with John Lewis deep fitted sheets. Only negative - sadly it isn’t cooling like the Therapur. I do find myself waking up much warmer which will only get worse now we are coming in to summer. If the Beatrice had cooling technology I would give it 5 stars and never leave my bed again. So overall, I’m very happy with this one. Not cheap…the price of a small used car...but comfy. Hopefully it stands the test of time. Watch this space :)

I've had my matilda kingsize for 2 years. I bought it because I was suffering a lot of back pain n mold matress. My pain reduced slightly with this matress but I still woke up in pain. Stupidly, I assumed that this would be the case with any matress. I hadn't had a holiday in years due to caring responsibilities so hadn't slept in any other beds for comparison. Since the passing of my mother, I've been on a few holidays this last year and am amazed how much better my back has felt each time. I have been thinking that the matilda must be too soft for me because I recently got myself checked out and following xrays, was diagnosed with arthritis in my neck and lower back. However, I went away again a couple of weeks ago and when I got on the bed, I immediately said to my wife that I was really going to struggle because it was significantly softer than my matilda. I was mistaken...I wasn't pain free, but I was in significantly less pain than at home. This has convinced me that the matress isn't right for me. It's strange, because when I first get into bed it feels reasonably comfortable. Within a couple of hours I'm in pain, and then have to constantly change positions until I finally give up and get out of bed. I rarely manage more than 4 hours sleep. It's my fault really, because I should have changed it in the first 100 days. I now know that I need to buy a new one, but accept that I probably need to spend significantly more to get a suitable one, so I'm saving up! One other thing, I overhest a lot on this matress, I wouldn't get anything with foam or gel again.

Extremely unhappy with the mattress and the customer service received – I bought a mattress in good faith that it would be suitable for me based on a lot of research and *mostly* good reviews. Also for the money, you would except it to be good quality. Unfortunately, the mattress is not fit for purpose as it dips so much on the sides that it is unusable. I cannot even get in and out of bed properly as I pretty much fall off the bed when I try to sit on the side! I have a disability as well which has been severely affected by this shoddily made mattress. I could not even get into bed on my own due to how badly it dips. I keep falling off. This has caused me so much distress and I am now massively out of pocket and have nowhere to sleep. They sent over someone to inspect it and they deemed it fine but it is definitely not fine. A brand new £1100 2200 independent pocket spring mattress should not dip that much on the edges when it is less than a month old - it should be sturdy and fully filled edge to edge. The company are making out like I am making this issue up, and they claim the mattress is fine as they do not want to refund me, but I have seen at least 2 other people have issued the very same complaint/ review. DO NOT BUY THIS MATTRESS - IT IS POORLY MADE & NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE - YOU WILL END UP OUT OF POCKET AND THEY WILL NOT REFUND YOU.
