Why our sleep experts loved it
Silentnight has been making quality mattresses in the UK for over a century, and the expertise shows in the Geltex Ultra 3000. I got my hands on this one in-store and it immediately felt like a proper, grown-up mattress, heavy, well put together, and not at all flimsy.
This mattress uses the latest gel technology to give you a medium to firm feel. When I ran my hand across the knitted cover it felt soft and a bit stretchy, but the surface underneath has that slightly springy Geltex feel rather than a slow-sinking memory foam vibe. Geltex is a revolutionary new material which has been specially developed by Silentnight using advanced technology. If you're expecting a big 'hug' from the top layer, you might be disappointed, it feels more buoyant than cuddly.
The 2000 pocket springs work alongside an additional layer of 1000 mini pocket springs to provide additional body contouring support. Lying on my back, I could feel the springs responding in smaller zones, my hips stayed nicely level without that hammock effect. On my side though, as a firmer build, it can feel a touch pushy at the shoulder if you're lighter in weight or like a plusher top.
The Silentnight Geltex Ultra 3000 Mattress is designed to help you get a good night's sleep. With Mirapocket springs and a knitted cover, it's got a soft, gel-infused surface that allows air to circulate freely for a temperature-controlled environment.
Temperature-wise it did feel fresher than a lot of foam-heavy mattresses I've tried, but it's not magic, if you naturally sleep hot you'll still want breathable bedding. Edge support is decent when you sit on the side to put socks on, but you can still feel it dip a bit, so I wouldn't buy it purely for that 'solid edge' feel.
For me personally, this sits in the good bracket if you want a firmer, supportive mattress with a bit of bounce, but at this sort of spec I'd also be looking closely at what else is available with similar spring counts and a slightly plusher comfort layer.
