Lie down and the memory foam gives a little, then you stop, because the springs underneath all move together. That's a firm mattress with a gentle landing, and it's the dearest open coil Silentnight sells in the Aloe Vera range at Dreams.
One buyer gets on with this: somebody who wants a firm bed and has it to themselves, and fancies something kinder under the shoulder. A light side sleeper will read it as a plank. Share the bed and you'll feel every turn your partner makes. My answer is don't, because this is pocket-spring money for springs that can't work on their own.
Miracoil is an open coil, and the foam on top does not change that
Miracoil is Silentnight's own name for an open coil, and the maker files the whole range under that heading. You'd never guess from the ticket, which finds room for aloe vera and never says open coil.
The coils are all linked by one continuous wire, so press down in one spot and the ones around it drop with you. That's the trench you've met in an old guest bed, the dip down the middle where two people have slept. Pocket springs are the answer to that, and I'd take them every time.
Memory foam is the material that normally kills movement, which is the irony of this build. The foam blunts your partner's turn a little and the wire carries the rest across to you.
No thickness is published for that foam, and it's the one layer the extra money buys. Ask Dreams for a figure before you order, and if none comes, take it as a thin comfort layer and judge the mattress on its springs. It has 672 springs, and a count like that means far more when every spring is wrapped on its own.
Buy it expecting firm
Shop for a firm mattress and plan around that. It's graded Firm, the Polperro it replaces was sold as Firm for years, and the owners read firm from one end to the other. You'll see it called medium as well, so ask which grade you're getting before you order.
Most of the reviews belong to the Polperro this one replaced, a cushion-topped bed under a knitted cover, so read them for the feel and not as a report on this build. Where owners were unhappy, it was for being too hard: one bought a foam topper to soften it, another called it "much too hard" and set about an exchange. The happy ones wanted firm and got it. Read the three-star reviews on any mattress first, because that's where the complaints live.
Deep for the range, and light for its depth
At 26.5cm it's the deepest mattress in the Aloe Vera range, and still lighter than either pocket-sprung one. Depth is a rough guide, and here the extra centimetres went into foam and fibre instead of a better spring unit.
It has one usable side. Turn it end for end once a week until it has three months on it, then once a month, which Silentnight makes a condition of its cover. Check the base underneath too: slat gaps of 6cm at the most, and avoid a tubular or mesh frame, because the maker won't stand behind the mattress on either.
Skip it if you wake up hot, because memory foam keeps warmth in and a treated cover does nothing about that. The Dreams 100-Night Comfort Guarantee swaps the mattress and never refunds you, you pay for the collection, and a protector must have been on the bed from the first night, so the grade has to be right first time.
The dearest open coil in the range
An open coil has a place and I'll defend it: the spare room that gets slept in twice a year, or a budget that won't stretch any further. Neither of those buyers is being asked to pay this much, which is more than the pocket-sprung rung below it in this range. The first mattress I owned was a Silentnight hand-me-down, already twenty years old by then, an open coil, and its springs had worn a divot down the middle that I slept in. That's my own history and nothing to do with this mattress, and it's still why I'd put your money into the spring unit.
What to buy instead
Buy the Silentnight Aloe Vera Castleton, one rung below this in the same range and cheaper with it. Its 682 springs each sit in their own pocket, so your weight goes down instead of sideways and your partner's turning stays on their side. It's graded medium, the grade I point people at when they don't yet know what they want.
Dreams sells a next-day version of that same pocket-sprung build, which is our Silentnight Ferndale page: the same medium grade and the same spring unit. Dreams tends to keep one of a pair on offer while the other sits at full price, so check the pair in your own size the day you order and buy whichever is cheaper.
