As a mattress enthusiast dedicated to delivering honest and thorough reviews, I recently had the pleasure to assess the Sealy Posturepedic Elevate Gladesville Combination Mattress in-store; truly immersing myself in its features and benefits. This premium Sealy Posturepedic patented mattress, handmade in the UK, fuses state-of-the-art technologies and materials to culminate in an eco-conscious, incredibly supportive, and luxuriously comfortable sleep solution.
Design and Features
What immediately sets the Gladesville Combination Mattress apart in the crowded sleep market is its revolutionary blend of powerful, patented Sealy Posturepedic technologies. Firstly, it's worth mentioning to discuss the Plant-based INFUSE™ Eco ComfortCore®, an clever and eco-friendly foam addition that optimises joint support. This feature creates a thoroughly responsive sleeping environment that adapts to your body's unique needs, especially beneficial for back and side sleepers requiring robust support.
The mattress base houses the unique AlignSupport® Coils, a collection of twice tempered springs that not only offer impressive resilience but also respond to your body's movements throughout the night, extending the mattress's lifespan and quality. However, it's essential to approach these claims with a degree of scepticism. While promising, it's challenging to definitively assess their tangible impact within the constraints of an in-store testing environment.
The mattress integrates the UniCased® edge support system, essentially extending your sleep surface by allowing you to sleep on the edge without worrying about roll-off or edge damage. However, the real cherry on top is the soft EternityFibre™. This plush topper ensures that you're cradled in amazing comfort night after night, delivering a sleep experience akin to luxuriously lounging on a cloud.
Mattress Comfort
The Gladesville Combination Mattress is classified as a 'very firm' comfort grade. Having experienced this mattress first-hand in the store, I can attest to this truth. The mattress has a sturdy and robust feeling that reassures confidence in its durability. However, while for some, this rigidity may equate with an elevated level of support, less flexible sleepers may find this discomforting.
The presence of the EternityFibre™ layer is noticeable during sleep-testing, as it provides a sumptuous cushion-like barrier against the mattress's inherent robustness. That said, this 'comfort vs firmness' dynamic can be polarising, proving delightful for some while posing potential comfort issues for others. Therefore, despite the lavish comfort that EternityFibre™ offers, light sleepers that require mild firmness may grapple with the mattress's overall firm comfort grade.
Suitability
Considering the firm tension of the Gladesville Combination Mattress, it is best suited for back sleepers and select stomach sleepers. The firm nature offers direct push-back support, ensuring the optimal alignment of the spine and relieving any potential strain on the back, findings based on both my personal in-store experience and a thorough understanding of mattress mechanics.
However, side sleepers might face discomfort. They typically require a mattress with greater sinkage in the hip and shoulder areas to promote a comforting cradle effect for prolonged sleep. Equally, those with hourglass figures may also experience difficulty as the very firm comfort grade is not best suited to conform to the curvature of their body.
What Customers Thought
Firmness is what owners keep coming back to. One owner wrote that it is "very comfortable, firm, great for back support and also edge support", another called it "such a firm and supportive mattress", and a third, who suffers with back ache, said "it has helped mine tremendously". An owner who had put off replacing an old mattress for about a decade summed up the change as "No more squidgy valleys, but a lovely firm bed restored."
None of the owner reviews so far raises a complaint, and the firmness I warn side sleepers about above is the very thing they praise. There is also a batch of reviews from people who received the mattress free, plus one from a Dreams expert staff reviewer. Those are just as positive, and the Dreams staff reviewer described the EternityFibre™ top as "a sumptuous layer of comfort that feels like being cradled in luxury every night".
The Verdict
In my professional opinion, the Sealy Posturepedic Elevate Gladesville Combination Mattress is certainly a candidate for consideration within the mattress marketplace, particularly if you value a 'very firm' comfort grade. Its clever, green-aligned features, like the plant-based INFUSE™ Eco ComfortCore® and EternityFibre™, are seriously compelling. Its robust build, promise of durability, and established trust in the Sealy brand are factors which weigh heavily in its favour.
However, as a reviewer who values balance, it's equally important to denote potential areas of improvement. The Gladesville Combination Mattress caters to a limited audience, mainly optimal for back and select stomach sleepers. The mattress's 'very firm' comfort grade may not accommodate the varying needs of all potential sleepers, such as side sleepers or those with an hourglass figure.
While the Gladesville Combination Mattress has an impressive suite of clever features, the inability to experience the entire range and impact of these features within an in-store testing context makes a complete assessment somewhat challenging. But overall, the Sealy Posturepedic Elevate Gladesville Combination Mattress does offer a promising, and, for some, a potentially exceptional sleep experience, making it an option worth contemplating in your search for the perfect night's sleep.
