Why our sleep experts loved it
A good night's sleep starts with the right mattress. I got my hands on the Sealy Blackwood Elevate Posturepedic Mattress in-store and it was one of those beds that feels firm the second you sit down. Sealy has been making some of the world's best beds for over 125 years and they know what it takes to make a great night's sleep. The Sealy Blackwood Elevate Posturepedic Mattress is fitted with some of the firmest orthopaedic AlignSupport® Coil springs, helping to relieve pressure points across your body. When I pressed my palm into the surface I could feel it pushing back quickly, it doesn't have that slow sink you get with deeper memory foam, and that will be a plus for some people and a bit too 'on top' for others.
Part of the Sealys Posturepedic collection, this mattress has a ComfortCore™ for additional pressure relief if you need it, and it comes with a luxury knit top fabric with SmarTex™ technology that will make you feel like you're sleeping on luxury. Running my hand across the knit cover it felt soft and smooth, but not overly plush, and you can tell it's built to feel supportive rather than pillowy. On my back it kept my hips nicely level and I didn't feel like I was hammocking, but on my side I could feel a bit of pressure building around the shoulder after a minute or two, which is exactly what I'd expect from a firm, orthopaedic-leaning build. If you're a lighter side sleeper (say under about 70kg) I think this is likely to feel too hard unless you really like a firm bed.
ProShield® fabric treatment makes this product hypoallergenic, ideal for those that suffer from allergies.
This British-made, non-turn easy rotate mattress is designed for longevity and comes with a 7-year guarantee that gives full life-span coverage and builds confidence. Just be aware it's non-turn, so you can't flip it over to even out wear, and if you're the sort of person that likes a mattress with proper side handles for rotating, you'll want to check that before you buy.
The tension of this product is considered firm and will most likely suit those who sleep on their back or stomach. When I lay on my front I felt nicely supported through the mid-section, but if you like a bit of give around the ribs and hips, this won't be that. For side sleepers we would recommend a slightly softer tension if you are of average build. Also worth saying, if you share a bed and you're sensitive to movement, this firmer spring feel can be a bit more noticeable than a plusher, foam-heavier mattress. A key benefit of firm mattresses is in the additional back and neck support offered, a key benefit of the Posturepedic spring system.
