Why our sleep experts loved it
The Sealy Holst Elevate Posturepedic mattress is one of the newer mattresses in the Sealy range and has a lot of features that you don't see in other mattresses. I got my hands on this one in person and the first thing that hit me was just how deep that plush top looks, it gives it that proper hotel-bed vibe. You can thank the deep and luxurious plush top for that, which makes this mattress very comfortable to sleep on. When I pressed down with my palm and then my forearm, it had that soft initial sink, but it didn’t just collapse, it pushed back in a controlled way. This mattress also has high performance AlignSupport springs in the base layer that help to improve your quality of sleep with full body contouring and good zonal support that adapts to your movements based on how you sleep. If you are a side sleeper, then this is the mattress for you with the medium tension being ideal for your hip and shoulders to sink into. Lying on my side, my shoulder did settle in nicely and I didn’t get that ‘jammed up’ feeling you can get on firmer Sealy models, but lighter side sleepers might still find the zoning a touch noticeable around the waist. But if you are more of a back or stomach sleeper, this medium tension still offers enough support for your back and neck while you sleep, although if you’re a dedicated front sleeper I’d still be a bit cautious because that plush top can let your hips dip if you’re heavier.
This mattress is made with multiple different layers and moves away from the traditional base layer and comfort layer, instead including multiple comfort layers for further comfort. The result is a high quality mattress that helps to distribute your weight across the mattress, making it very comfortable. The mattress has a very soft top layer in the form of a unique plush top that we don't find coming up very often in the UK, but rising in prominence in the US at a faster rate. Running my hand across the top panel, it felt smooth and properly padded, and you can feel that extra quilting straight away compared to a flatter, tighter cover. Plush tops look and feel great and have many of the benefits of the pillow top but with extra rigidity and support. The trade-off is that plush tops can show body impressions sooner than a flatter finish if you don’t keep on top of rotating it, and it’s not the sort of feel everyone wants if you like a really ‘on top’ sleeping surface.
The plush top adds to an already deep comfort layer in the form of Sealy Foam ComfortCare, a unique variant of foam that when combined makes it great for side, stomach and back sleepers who like to have a softer top layer. On my back I could feel the foam taking the edge off the springs, but I still got a bit of bounce, it didn’t feel like slow, sticky memory foam. The mattress is made with a blend of foam and premium materials that are unique to Sealy, so it has just the right amount of bounce to make it comfortable, but don’t expect the same level of motion isolation you’d get from a deep memory foam mattress if you sleep with a wriggler. The mattress has a great build quality with an impressive 7-year guarantee against defects, and it is made in the United Kingdom, although at this sort of price point I do like seeing longer cover as standard. The mattress has a cooling SmarTex fabric in the breathable cover, making it a great option for people who tend to sleep warm, but with all that plush padding on top it can still hold a bit of heat compared to a thinner, firmer build.
