Why our sleep experts loved it
The Jessica 800 Pocket Support Mattress is a new product from Sleepeezee that builds upon the foundation of last years Jessica mattress, adding variants around the comfort layer and firmness to suit more people. I got my hands on this one in-store and spent a bit of time pressing into the top and lying on it in a couple of positions, just to see if it felt like a genuine step on from the earlier Jessica.
The Jessica is endorsed by Jessica Ennis-Hill, a gold medal Olympian and Dame. She helped design this product due to her belief in sleep and rest being a key factor in training. I always take celeb tie-ins with a pinch of salt though, it still has to feel right when you're actually on it.
The Jessica 800 Pocket Support Mattress is available in a medium firm tension with an impressive pocket spring support layer. With 800 springs in the unit, you will be able to fully appreciate the body contouring on offer. On my back it felt nicely supportive through the hips, and I could feel the springs responding in a more 'individual' way than an open coil mattress tends to. That said, if you're a lighter side sleeper, this medium firm can feel a touch pushy around the shoulder, I noticed I had to shuffle a bit to get properly comfy.
In the pocket sprung version, 800 individual pocket springs are constructed from a combination of steel, offering the best of both worlds by combining the bounce of traditional springs and the body contouring and edge to edge support of a good quality and supportive base. Sitting right on the edge, it held me up better than I expected for this sort of spec, but it still dips a bit when you perch on it, so if you spend a lot of time sat on the side to get dressed, it's not the most solid edge I've tried. When I pressed down with my hand, the surface had a springy feel rather than that slow sink you get with deeper memory foam, which I personally prefer as it makes turning over easier.
This mattress is designed to be used on top of a base, such as a divan bed or wooden slatted bed base. To keep your mattress in good condition for as long as possible, we'd also recommend regular rotation between head and foot end every few months. Worth saying, it's the sort of mattress you'll actually need to rotate, it isn't one you can just forget about, and if you're not up for that faff you might find it loses its 'even' feel quicker over time.
The Jessica is hypoallergenic which is great for people who suffer from allergies and is ideal for those who need to get a good night's sleep and suffer from allergies or asthma.
This mattress is available in any size, including Small Single (3ft), Small Double (4ft6), Double (5ft), King Size (5ft), Super King Size (6ft). Just double check the exact measurements if you're putting it into a tight bed frame, some brands can vary slightly and it can be a pain if you're right on the limit.
