Why our sleep experts loved it
The mattress industry has its share of legends and pioneers, and the SleepSoul Celest 2000 Pocket Pillow Top Mattress is one that stands out. Having built a reputation around providing optimal comfort blended with exceptional quality, the mattress seems to offer the promise of sleep-filled nights. While we were not able to test the SleepSoul Celest in our usual location, we've analysed the product features alongside customer reviews to provide a balanced overview.
How we tested
In this exceptional case, we did not have the opportunity to test the product personally on-site or at home. But worry not, dear readers. We made do with the next best thing; a look through the product descriptions, specification breakdowns, and, most importantly, customer reviews. We've sifted through first-hand experiences of the day-and-night sleeps, analyzed the validity of technical claims about features, and scrutinized its comfort and support compared to its rivals.
Design and features
The SleepSoul Celest is a blend of traditional and modern mattress technology. Its spring count of 2000 indicates an advanced hybrid structure, combining 1200 pocket springs and an additional layer of 800 mini pocket springs. The larger springs cater to the body's major zones such as the head and hips, while the mini springs complement by adjusting to the body's smaller contours, hence offering support across all body districts.
As for the foam layers, there are four layers in particular influencing the mattress's comfort dynamics. At the forefront, we have a 3.5cm layer of memory foam, harmonizing with body contours and alleviating pressure points. Then three layers of reflex foam step in to add to the comfort quotient and enhance durability. Interestingly, reflex foam helps keep discomfort at bay by providing the much-needed responsiveness akin to a 'bounce-back' feel.
Despite its features, the Celest is quite the easy customer when it comes to moving and repositioning the mattress. All thanks to its vacuum-packed design. Just move it to your room, unbox and watch as the mattress springs to full size, given 2-24 hours. Plus, its single-sided design allows easy rotation and maintenance, extending its lifespan.
Mattress comfort
For a mattress to be crowned 'comfortable,' it must often master the delicate balance between support and softness. The Celest seems to uphold this balance. Its medium firmness provides adequate resistance while accommodating various sleeping styles, especially those of side sleepers. However, some may argue that back sleepers might benefit more from a firmer mattress.
The pillow-top finish is meant to be the star of the show for comfort. It elevates the mattress aesthetic while serving as a cushiony landing to sink into each night. Despite this, there's also some skepticism. Some might interpret its firmness as being too rigid for side sleepers and its promise of breathability a bit overstated. Why, do you ask? There've been observations that the mattress tends to trap heat, deterring some of the marketed breathability.
Suitability
When discussing suitabilty, the Celest is a contender for a range of sleepers. Devised with a zonal support system with a medium firmness, and layered foam structure, it adapts well to the needs of various sleepers. Side sleepers can heave a sigh of relief due to the softer support around the shoulders while back sleepers will find the overall support adequate, although potentially a touch softer than ideal. As per user reviews and product specification, the Celest may not be the best fit for those who often find themselves wrestling their sheets due to excessive heat.
What customers thought
As we sifted through various customer reviews, it's clear that the Celest has had a considerable impact on the quality of sleep. Many buyers were impressed by the support system and pain alleviation, with side sleepers celebrating the softer shoulder support. Heat retention was, however, a bone of contention for a number of users. Some also pointed out the mattress's depth may not be compatible with all types of fitted sheets.
The verdict
Upon careful analysis, our verdict leans towards praise for the SleepSoul Celest's comfort-meets-support formula, with finer touches like the pillow-top finish. Key parts like the stratified spring design, memory foam pressure point relief, and reflex foam layers come together to create a sleeping surface that's expectedly notable. This mattress certainly lives up to the hype, but there is room for growth, especially when it comes to heat retention and firmness optimisation for back sleepers.
So, should you opt for the SleepSoul Celest 2000? If you're a side or back sleeper seeking a balance between support and softness, this could be your best companion. If, however, you find yourself heating up more often than not, or are a back sleeper seeking firm support, you might want to weigh other options. We hope our breakdown has been helpful, and as always, we recommend testing a mattress personally when possible before making that final decision. Happy mattress hunting!
