Why our sleep experts loved it
I got my hands on the Luna Memory 1000 Pocket Mattress recently and the first thing I noticed was the knitted cover - it genuinely is soft to the touch when you run your hand across it, and it feels a bit more “cosy” than some of the cheaper, flat covers you see at this price point.
The mattress also features the use of reflex foam and memory foam for comfort, along with small pocket springs for support. When I pressed down with my palm you can feel that slow memory foam response on top, then the springs pushing back underneath rather than just sinking straight through. Lying on my back, it kept my hips nicely level for a medium-ish feel, but if you’re a lighter side sleeper (say under about 70kg) I can see this feeling a touch firm around the shoulder because the reflex foam doesn’t give quite as easily as softer comfort foams.
The Luna Memory Pocket Mattress is also hypoallergenic, contains no allergens and is perfect for those who may suffer from asthma or dust allergies. Just be aware that “hypoallergenic” doesn’t mean it’s immune to dust build-up forever - you’ll still want a decent protector and a regular vacuum if allergies are a big deal in your house.
The rolled-up mattress can be stored in a small space and transported with ease, making it great if you have a limited amount of room in your home prior to unpacking. That said, rolled mattresses can have a bit of a “new mattress” smell for the first day or two, and this one is no different - I’d give it a good airing with the windows open. Also, memory foam can sleep warmer than you expect, so if you’re someone who runs hot at night, I’d be thinking about breathable bedding or even whether a less memory-foam-heavy option would suit you better. Plus, the mattress comes with an impressive 10 year guarantee that allows you to be confident in your purchase.
The knitted cover is breathable and hypoallergenic, making Luna Memory Mattress an ideal choice for allergy sufferers. It is also fire resistant, to help you sleep soundly at night, and is handcrafted in the UK by one of the UK's leading mattress manufacturers.
One other thing I always check is the edge when I sit on the side to put my socks on - it’s decent for a pocket sprung mattress, but it’s not a reinforced “sit-on-the-edge-all-day” type of build, so if you need really strong edges you might find it dips a bit. For me personally, it’s a solid option if you like that classic memory foam hug with a bit of spring support underneath, but it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea if you want a cooler, bouncier feel.
