Why our sleep experts loved it
Hypnos has grown on me over the years, and the Inspired by Nature 03 shows why. The brand tends to stay in its lane: upper-tier, traditional, well-finished, without drifting into the ridiculous money asked by some luxury bed makers. I tested this one in store, mainly in medium tension, and it made a better case for itself than most pillowtop mattresses I see.
The first feel is plush, helped by the sewn-in pillowtop, yet the mattress does not turn soggy once weight goes through it. The 25mm graphite-infused natural latex layer gives a quick, elastic response under the shoulder and hip. Nice movement back from the surface. Back lying felt good too, although I would still steer some back sleepers towards the firm option for a flatter hold.
Construction and materials
The spec sheet is long, and some of it reads like eco-copywriting, but there is proper substance underneath. The mattress contains two fleeces of RWS certified British wool from the Woolkeepers Community of farmers. That wool is traceable, breathable and resilient. There is also a cotton-rich blend layer, a 100% natural fruit fibre layer using fibres from bananas, pineapples and oranges, plus eOlus comfort made from recycled polymer bottles.
The natural side of the build is easy to feel in the showroom. It has a drier, less plasticky top than many foam-heavy mattresses. The Hypnos signature damask cover is viscose derived from wood pulp, with 100% natural chemical-free fire retardancy protection. I like that choice, although the number of branded layers can make the mattress sound more complex than the lying feel suggests.
At 32cm deep, this is a tall mattress. Deep fitted sheets will be needed, and a high divan or ottoman base may make the bed sit quite proudly in the room. It is no-turn, so it only needs regular rotation according to the care guide. Convenient, yes, but I remain cautious with sewn-in pillowtops because the top surface does all the wearing. The 8 flag-stitched handles help with movement, reduced to 4 on the 90cm size.
Support and showroom comfort
The ReActivePro 8-turn pocket spring unit is the part that earned my trust. More active turns allow the spring to track the body with better nuance, and in store that showed around the ribs and pelvis. Compared with a Simba Hybrid Pro, this feels steadier and more traditionally sprung, with less of that foam rebound.
Edge support was strong. Hypnos uses Triple Edge Protection here: 3 rows of firmer edge springs on both sides, a metal frame and 3 rows of true hand side-stitching. Sitting on the border did not produce that cheap roll-off feeling. For couples, that matters, because the usable surface feels wider than it would on a softer-edged pillowtop.
Partner disturbance was also well controlled during my short test with movement beside me. I did not feel the whole mattress ripple. Still, a showroom is a poor place to declare victory on motion transfer after several nights of turning, getting up and settling again. The signs are positive, and the spring unit deserves credit, but home use would tell the fuller story.
Who it suits best
Medium tension makes most sense for side sleepers of average weight. The shoulder can sink enough to ease pressure, while the latex and springs keep the waist from dipping too far. Back sleepers who like a cushioned top may enjoy it, though the firm version is the one I would try first for stronger lumbar support.
Front sleeping is the weaker match. The pillowtop adds comfort, but it can allow the hips to sit a touch low on some bodies. Combination sleepers should fare better because the latex responds quickly and does not trap you in a hollow. People who sleep near the edge should also appreciate the reinforced border. Small detail, big difference.
Customer feedback I could verify
No individual owner reviews were supplied with the product information, so I am not going to pretend I have read glowing long-term accounts. The buyer signals I can verify are the 10-year guarantee, UK manufacture in Buckinghamshire by Royal Warrant holders Hypnos, and Bensons exclusivity. The Eden Project endorsement, plus recyclable packaging made from sugar cane and recycled plastic, adds credibility for eco-minded shoppers, provided they are comfortable trusting the certification trail.
Limits of this in-store test
Months of body impressions across the sewn-in pillowtop remain unknown.
Warm-night cooling under a duvet needs home testing, not showroom touching.
Motion transfer was checked briefly, so restless-partner performance is still partly unproven.
Delivery quality, packaging condition on arrival and Bensons aftercare were outside this assessment.
My take
The Inspired by Nature 03 feels like Hypnos doing what Hypnos usually does well: natural fillings, calm support and a properly built edge. I would prefer a published spring count, and the no-turn pillowtop needs disciplined rotation. Even with those reservations, the 8-turn springs, 25mm latex layer and strong border give it a composed feel that many cheaper pillowtops miss. For an average-weight side sleeper wanting medium support, this one is very easy to shortlist.
