Becky’s take

By Becky Reeve

Checked against current models and prices in October 2026

I sleep on an Origin Hybrid Pro I bought with my own money, so bear that in mind when I say I'd pick Origin, and it isn't close. Every Origin hybrid is medium-firm, pocket springs under a springy top layer. That layer is latex on the LumbarCloud and the Hybrid Pro and foam on the Hybrid, with no memory foam anywhere. The Dreams Workshop is Dreams' budget own brand, all open coil, which I'd never choose for nightly use.

Decide by whether you share the bed. If you're light and alone, the Simmonds in medium is a fair buy, and about as many people have bought a Workshop as an Origin. With two of you, a Workshop's linked springs pass every roll across the bed and wear soft in the middle first, while an Origin's springs sit in their own pockets and a turn stays put.

Origin is the dearer of the two, and the extra buys the pocket springs and the springy top. If you want a firm mattress, the Workshop has a case, because Origin makes nothing above medium-firm and the Botfield and Dingwall are firm.

Head to head

The Dreams Workshop has 0 of its 8 mattresses sprung and 3 all memory foam; Origin has sprung throughout, every model a hybrid. Only Origin offers latex, in 2 models. The Dreams Workshop runs from medium to firm, and every Origin mattress is medium-firm. The Dreams Workshop covers more of the firmness scale, which helps if two sleepers need different feels. The Dreams Workshop is clearly the cheaper way in; Origin's range starts well above it. At the top end Origin goes further still.

The Dreams Workshop

The Dreams Workshop first cropped up a few years ago, being sold exclusively through the Dreams retail website, the brand was established to offer a range of in-house products that were built and designed from the ground up by the team at Dreams HQ. The brand has UK roots, with all mattresses being manufactured right here in England using the latest in technological advances to create both traditional and hybrid rolled mattresses. The value proposition of The Dreams Workshop is in its ability to cut out middleman costs thanks to its direct link with the retailer, allowing for a more premium product at a reduced price point for the consumer. Pay particular attention to the rolled series of mattresses now coming out in the range, where the consumer wins again with savings on logistics and shipping being able to be passed down in even better prices.

Origin

Origin started in 2018 and now ships mattresses to eight countries, including the UK. The brand works with a German design team and a panel of doctors, chiropractors and physiotherapists to shape each model around spinal alignment and pressure relief. UK prices vary by model and size, and the range sits squarely in the mid-market bracket.

Their headline product is the Origin Hybrid Pro. The listing now shows up to 5,300 TitaniumCoil pocket springs, a layer of bamboo-infused wool and a breathable pillow top, with the feel listed as medium-plush. Every mattress ships with a 200-night home trial, so there is time to judge it properly through different seasons before committing. Owners' reviews are mostly positive on comfort, and relief from back pain comes up again and again, though a minority found the feel wrong for them and sent theirs back.

The Dreams Workshop owner satisfaction

Consumer Satisfaction is where this brand really thrives. Comfort and price turn up together in review after review, and one owner put it about as plainly as it gets: “This is a good, comfortable mattress at a reasonable price.” Another wrote simply “Really comfortable and great value, would recommend”. Not everyone is sold on the feel, and a minority found the firmer models harder than they wanted. One owner wrote: “We added a topper as it was a little too firm and for added comfort, now it's just right.” Price is a big part of why people buy one, and most owners seem happy with what they got for it.

The Dreams Workshop supportiveness

From the Simmonds through to the Botfield, there’s more than enough support on offer to ensure your back and neck is adequately supported. Most of the range is of the firm variety with a handful of medium firmness sprinkled throughout the lineup. Owners who mention the support often describe it the same way: firm without being harsh, and no sinking in. One wrote that it “supports your body without you sinking into the mattress”. A few found the opposite, and one review reads: “Not as firm as expected. Sinks if you sit in one position.”

The Dreams Workshop durability

Durability is not typically a concern with any of The Dreams Workshop, though the reviews are not unanimous: a minority of owners say the springs could be felt or heard within weeks, and a few report an early dip. One owner wrote: “Had it 2 weeks, can already feel the springs poking through.” For those looking to get more lifespan from their product, consider a dual sided mattress from within the range as these models have twice the surface area to sleep on which improves settlement of springs and helps decrease wear on the fillings. One downside we have come across with the brand is around the guarantee which is limited to only 1 year, typically brands have started moving away from this minimum amount to the satisfaction of customers. At the same time, problems typically appear within that first year at a much higher rate than in the years that follow, and that first year is what the guarantee covers.

Origin owner satisfaction

Origin's hybrids rate highly across the reviews we have tracked. Most of the praise is for comfort and back relief: one owner wrote that it "offered the perfect balance of support and cushioning" and that they had been "waking up well-rested without any back pain or stiffness". Firmness is where the reviews divide. One side sleeper called it "perfect for side sleepers and people with hip/lower back pain", another found it "just too hard for us side sleepers" and was sending it back, and a few found the opposite: "too soft for us and caused back ache". It pays to be honest about your preferred position before ordering.

On temperature, the SnowTencel cover and the cooling gel in the HexaGrid layer do a reasonable job of pulling heat away from the body, and most owners who mention temperature agree, one calling it "nice and cool during the hot weather", though not all of them: "Comfortable, but does make me hot at night". The gripes that do come up are the weight ("My only one criticism is how heavy it is") and, for some, a slow delivery with little word on when it would arrive. Neither affects how the mattress performs night to night, but both are worth knowing about before you buy.

Origin supportiveness

Support is where Origin puts most of its engineering effort. The Hybrid Pro pairs a HexaGrid Plus comfort layer with titanium-reinforced pocket springs, and the two work together to hold the spine in a neutral line without letting the hips sink. The bamboo wool layer above that adds a small amount of give so the surface does not feel hard, and it helps air move through the mattress rather than pooling under the body.

In practice that means back and stomach sleepers get firm, stable support, while side sleepers still get enough cushioning at the shoulder to avoid pressure points. It is not the plushest mattress on the market, but for anyone who wants their bed to feel genuinely supportive rather than soft, Origin gets the balance right.

Origin durability

The SnowTencel cover on Origin mattresses feels soft to the touch and holds up well to regular use, and the hybrid build of foam over pocket springs is the format we generally expect to last longest. One owner two and a half years in wrote that "There is no damage or sagging at all", and that is the usual report from longer-term owners, though a few found a dip forming within months and one at around 150 days could "feel a noticable dip where I sleep".

A good quality mattress should last around seven years before it needs replacing, and on the evidence so far there is no reason to think the current Origin range will fall short of that. The materials are good, the construction is sound and the warranty backs it up, so durability is not an area we have any concerns about.

Oh dear, now thanks to the expert advice of a Dreams salesperson, I now have a guilty secret. Some three months ago I moved some distance from a place where I had lived for many years. A lot of my friends and family had said they would like to come down and spend a few days with me, when I had settled, nice but I would need to set up a guests bedroom. Stating the obvious, I would need a bed and all the accessories. Having already had a good experience when purchasing just a duvet at Dreams store in Havant, I returned to same on a mission. I explained that I needed a large double bed, it needed to have some storage, and as it would only be for occasional use, it should be at a budget price. Since then I have had a few people stay for a couple of nights, but all would comment on how comfortable they had been at night. Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago. I decided that the main bedroom needed decorating, so rather than move heavy furniture around, I would simply cover my super-king sized bed with a dust sheet, and use the new bed in the 'guests' bedroom. Now here is the thing, for months I have been suffering from major back pain, so much so I was sent to a local hospital where they conducted both X-ray and CT scans. It was concluded that the problem was due to wear in my lower spine, and all they could suggest was the use of strong pain killers. Even as I write this, I am very much aware that I am free from pain in my back, and I can only attribute this to the use of the new Dreams bed, and the applied knowledge of the sales assistant. To their credit, they respected my need to stay within a very tight budget, not only with the bed, but also the accessories. My guilty secret? Now when guests stay I find myself saying, "You have the super-king, I will be fine with the double.

5 Star service! Our new bed was delivered on Christmas eve thanks to the very helpful Dreams staff member who served us. I have already left a review for the way he conducted himself and handled the sale. With only one week to go for Christmas eve, he pulled out ALL the stops to get us a bed in time! Very friendly, he answered ALL of our questions and gave us food for thought about ALL the things available. I never realized that there was so much to consider when buying a bed! LoL Unfortunately, after unpacking the bed we discovered that one of the draws was damaged. There's no way the driver could have known, due to the packaging. We contacted customer services and explained the problem, she was sorry to hear this and set about ordering a replacement draw. She explained that due to Christmas & New Year, there would be a slight delay, but we were given 15th Jan for delivery. Again, very friendly & helpful! Our replacement draw was just delivered, by the delivery driver & his mate, again very friendly and on time! After looking at our damaged draw, he checked to see that the replacement was the right colour and all ok... and if I had any other questions. Again... 5 Star service! We had waited until now before leaving this review, as we wanted to see how Dreams handled this. We appreciate that these things can happen, but it's how the company deals with it. We're pleased to say that they passed with glowing colours!!! A great bed and 5 Star service.... BUY WITH CONFIDENCE! P.S. I've slept like a baby this past four weeks! :)

After blowing £79 on a rolled up so called mattress from a dodgy ebay company last year (huge mistake) it wasn't going to take an awful lot to impress me. I was very impressed with the measures in place in the Telford store due to covid 19 and instantly felt at ease. Covers, masks, sanitizer everywhere and plenty of social distancing. Having picked my mattress the checkout was quick, friendly and efficient and took no more than 5 minutes. 8 days later my new mattress arrived. The delivery men were big, strong, wearing masks and made short work of getting my new mattress into my bedroom. Literally less than 2 minutes. The missus went all out with new pillows and fresh bedding and dutifully set about creating our night time body shelf. After a tiring day, a wonderful sirloin, bottle of red and a shower we were ready to jump into our new slice of heaven. 3 words were muttered by us both in unison. Oh my lord. What slumberland sorcery is this. The perfect amount of firmness, the wonderful smell of the fresh bedding and the support of the memory foam pillows and we were out faster than Frank Bruno against Mike tyson. Absolute bliss. I can't recommend dreams or this mattress highly enough. Superb product, great service and fast delivery. Don't delay, buy one today!

Unfortunately, I find this mattress far too hard. Two ago I started experiencing severe lower back pain and hip pain. I was hoping it would ease, but the opposite has happened and the pain has increasingly got worse, in particular, in the last few days. Only had the mattress since the end of September so I am going to speak to Dreams about the problems I am experiencing. Even though the mattress looks good quality, the firmness is too much (and won't suit anyone who moves at all in their sleep, I think most people do move). When I was in the store, I did ask for assistance in choosing a mattress, but with hindsight I do wish I had asked for two opinions from their customer service staff...I put all my faith in the advice from one customer service member of staff. I will update my rating, if I find that Dreams are obliging in finding an alternative solution for me, and I hope promptly. (Please note: I've never experienced any kind of back pain of any sort in my life prior to purchasing the mattress from Dreams).

Dear Team, I am writing to express my disappointment with the Springfield mattress I recently purchased. Unfortunately, the mattress has not met my expectations in terms of comfort or quality. Ever since I started using it, I’ve been experiencing consistent back pain every day. Despite regularly rotating the mattress, there has been no improvement. The springs are clearly felt through the surface, making it extremely uncomfortable to sleep on. It feels as though there is little to no cushioning or foam layer, which raises concerns about the quality and construction of the mattress. I trusted Dreams for a good night's sleep, but this experience has been quite disappointing. It is clear that the mattress is faulty and not up to the mark.

I would love to be reviewing the mattress I had ordered last week, but I can't, but I can share my experience so far. My story begins by ordering my mattress online on the 2nd of March after choosing Origin Mattress US following reading a very good review by Good Housekeeping for Best Mattresses in the US 2024. Turns out I should probably have done more research. The mattress company took my money and I received an email confirming my order had been processed. I assumed further emails or messages regarding delivery would follow. Saturday evening I received a call from a nice man who had been trying to deliver my mattress, but couldn't because the van had broke down. News to me, but no worries, he said it would come Monday. I emailed Origin Mattress asking if I could get details of a time slot for delivery, because, you know, I have a job. No answer. Monday 11am rolls around, I get an answer message on my phone to say delivery for that day had been terminated, and rescheduled for Tuesday. Right-o. Again I email Origin Mattress, can someone please get in touch to let me know what is going on with delivery and when I need to be home for. No answer. (By the way, there isn't actually a number to call, you can only email. Convenient. )At this point I'm vaguely wondering if this is a scam. Tuesday comes and goes, no communication recevied. I stayed in all day just in case, but no mattress. Wednesday 4am, I get an email! From Origin Mattess! Saying here is some information about your delivery! Apparently it's out for delivery for Wednesday! Hurrah! At this point I should mention I no longer have my old mattress because I eagerly got rid of the ancient thing on Tuesday thinking that was plenty of time for my Monday delivery I had been promised. Ha. 9am Wednesday I receive a text from the courier. The mattress has been damaged and they are contacting the supplier, but will be in touch. OK, so some correspondence, I await eagerly. 4pm Wednesday, another text, my mattress is out for delivery this very day apparently! Follow the link for time slot. I follow the link, but no time slot. However, there are finally come contact details. I contact the courier (shout out to Mollie!) I explain the confusion I am experiencing. Mollie looks in to this and tells me the mattress has been damaged, takes my number and says they will contact the supplier. 6pm, another text from the courier asking me to book a delivery slot. I get the option of the 11th of March (its currently the 6th) or the 22nd March. I have no mattress so I hastily select the 11th. This is my story so far. I have sent several emails to Origin Mattress who clearly do not give a flying pink monkey now they have taken my money, and the courier service is now apparently trying to get hold of a non-damaged mattress which I may or may not receive on the 11th March whilst I sleep on the floor. Long story short, no I would not recommend using this company. Hope this helps!

We recently had the pleasure of trying out the Origin LumbarCloud Double Mattress for our daughter's bunk bed, and we couldn't be happier with our choice! This mattress has truly exceeded our expectations in every way. From the moment we unboxed it, we knew we were in for a treat. The setup was effortless, and the mattress even has an amazing undergrip to prevent any slippage, ensuring it stays perfectly in place. Story time with our girls has taken on a whole new meaning with the LumbarCloud mattress. It's so comfortable that either my husband or I often find ourselves drifting off to sleep right alongside them. The plush yet supportive surface has turned bedtime into a cozy, bonding experience for the whole family. It's not just a mattress; it's a haven of relaxation and comfort. One of the standout features of the LumbarCloud mattress is its health and therapeutic benefits. We've noticed significant improvements in our sleep quality and overall well-being since we started using it. The girls have been sleeping soundly through the night, and they wake up feeling refreshed and revitalized. It's amazing how much of a difference a high-quality mattress can make in your life. The customer service from Origin has been nothing short of outstanding. The mattress was delivered to our door within a couple of days, and the entire process was smooth and hassle-free. It's clear that Origin values their customers and goes the extra mile to ensure satisfaction. Their commitment to quality and service is evident in every aspect of our experience. If you're in need of a mattress upgrade or just not getting the rest and sleep you deserve, the Origin LumbarCloud Double Mattress is a game changer. Falling asleep is easier than ever, and staying asleep is a dream come true. We wholeheartedly recommend this mattress to anyone seeking a blend of comfort, support, and exceptional customer service. It's been a true blessing for our family, and we're confident it will be for yours too. The mattress is a premium price, however for an exceptional premium lifestyle product, it's worth it.

Oh no. . . . . . . . When I first decided to buy this mattress, I was filled with all kinds of expectations. I was convinced it would be the answer to my restless nights. I thought this would be the bed that finally helped me stay asleep through the night, that I’d wake up feeling refreshed, energized, and ready to take on the day. After all, that’s what every mattress company promises, right? Like most people, I fell for the marketing, the glowing reviews, and the idea that this purchase would solve my sleep problems. But let me be honest — when I unpacked it, I still had my doubts. I’d been through this before with other mattresses. I’ve spent countless nights waking up at 2 or 3 a. m. , tossing and turning, hoping the next purchase would magically fix everything. So you can understand why I didn’t get my hopes up too high. I figured I’d give it a week or two, and if it didn’t work, well… back to square one. And then, the first few nights were… fine. Not incredible, just okay. I slept, but I still found myself wondering, "Is this it? Is this what all the hype is about?" I was ready to start drafting another disappointed review in my head. But then something unexpected happened. By the time the second week rolled around, I realized something was different. I wasn’t just falling asleep faster; I was staying asleep — deep, uninterrupted sleep. For the first time in years, I wasn’t waking up in the middle of the night, and the next thing I knew, my alarm was going off. And that’s when it hit me: this mattress didn’t just fix my sleep. It transformed it. It’s been 14 days, and I can honestly say, this is the best sleep I’ve ever had in my life. I’m sleeping so well, it’s almost hard to wake up because the bed is just that comfortable. It’s so supportive, so cozy, that I could easily stay in bed all day if I didn’t have responsibilities. Waking up is the struggle now — but for all the right reasons. This mattress didn’t just meet my expectations — it blew them out of the water.

DO NOT BUY - Please read Upon looking for a new mattress, Origin came up as a top sponsored link on Google. The claims by Origin looked really good. They even provide a comparison against other well-known brands such as Simba and Emma. It seemed to me that I could get the same quality as the top competitors for half the price with the Hybrid Pro having an RRP for £1722. (THIS IS NOT TRUE). Firstly, the unreliable delivery company is a whole other matter. On receiving the double matttess I first noticed that the box was only 36cm wide. Initially you think how can a mattress that is apparently 31cm deep, fit rolled into a box of this width. Even Simba's basic mattress in a double size comes in a box which is 50cm wide. On opening the box and unwrapping the mattress, it inflates unnaturally from about 4cm thick. The mattress had threads hanging out and had an bulge about a third of the way down. The side material also appeared quite loose. You can also feel the springs from underneath the mattress as there is no base layer. I then noticed that the mattress looked smaller than my previous mattress. A double should be 190cm but this one actually measures 185cm. The actual depth of the mattress sent to me is 28cm and not the stated 31cm. On lying on it, it is incredibly spongy and the spring support is non existance. There is also zero edge support and when sitting close to the edge, the edge compresses to about a third of the size with material bulging on the side. You then slide off. What I found is that because of there being no edge support, you have to sleep further into the mattress. Not ideal when there are two people sleeping on it. Essentially it means that you have reduced sleeping space. Due to how the edge compress, it also means bedsheets keep riding up. As for sleep quality, I have woken up with a sore back and have been waking up with a headaches daily. There is a nasty chemical smell from the mattress which is still present a week later. I have a smart watch which monitors my sleep and my sleep score has decreased by a quarter. I am also now snoring to which I was not before. Due to the lack of spring support and the sponginess of the mattress, I have also felt that I am warmer at night. This is because you sink more into the mattress due to the lack of support. To me, this is a poor quality sub standard mattress which is marketed as being premium. From the build, I can't see how it will last longer than 2 years. From whatI received my suspicions were raised. When looking online, there are an unusual amount of positive reviews and videos. It seems Origin has given people free mattresses to provide these reviews. People state in their reviews that Origin reached out to them to try their products. All reviews are also in the last year with the oldest on Trustpilot being the 7th February. There are no reviews commenting on the longevity of the mattress. I have found no actual tested side by side comparison between Origin mattresses and leading brands. When trying to find an independent review, 'Which?' charge a fee but luckily I have been able to review their assessment of the mattress. They only gave the mattress 64% score as part of their test results. It states "We've tested better" and "We did find that a foam layer was badly damaged in our roller test when we simulated 10 years of sleepign on it, so its not a best buy". Under the Should I buy it section, it states "the damage to the memory foam layer is a bit of a red flag". It further adds "unfortunately we found that our durability tests, which includes a heavy roller moving back and forth over the mattress for hours, designed to replicate 8-10 years of use, caused bad damage to one of the layers, ripping long tears and crumbling holes into it". I also came across a ruling from the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) in December 2024 (only four months ago) to which Origin did not respond and to which Origin provided no proof to substantiate their claims. www.asa.******/rulings/origin-sleep-uk-ltd-a24-1253221-origin-sleep-uk-ltd. html The ASA concluded the following: "We considered that consumers would understand the claims “Absolute Pressure Relief”, “Orthopaedic Back Support”, “Designed by orthopedics [sic] and engineered for pain-free sleep”, “spinal alignment” and “Perfect for back & joint pain relief” to mean that the Origin Hybrid Mattress provided pressure relief to its users, offered medically-proven orthopaedic back support, had been designed by orthopaedically trained individuals, helped maintain a healthy spinal alignment during sleep, and could help people suffering with back and joint pain. We also considered that consumers would understand the claims “Enhanced Pressure Relief”, “Our proprietary technology is designed by orthopaedics and engineered for pain-free sleep”, “for a healthier and stronger back” and “Designed to offer enhanced support where your bodyweight is concentrated to alleviate back aches” to mean that the Origin Hybrid Pro Mattress offered provably high levels of pressure relief. Also, that it had been designed by orthopaedically trained individuals and could ensure pain-free sleep plus it was capable of helping to improve the health and strength of an individual’s back thus alleviating back pain. Further claims were made, which we considered were comparative in nature, and likely to be seen by consumers as comparisons against competitors in the market: “Three Times More Support”, “3x Greater Pressure Relief” and “2x Enhanced Back Support”. We therefore expected to see robust documentary evidence substantiating those various claims, consisting of clinical trials conducted on people. However, as discussed above, we did not receive evidence from Origin Mattress to substantiate any of the claims. In the absence of such evidence, we concluded that the claims had not been substantiated and were therefore misleading. On that point, the ad breached CAP Code (Edition 12) rules 3. 1 (Misleading advertising), 3. 7 (Substantiation), 3. 33 (Comparisons with identifiable competitors), and 12. 1 (Medicines, medical devices, health-related products and beauty products). The ad must not appear again in its current form. We told Origin Sleep UK Ltd to ensure their ads did not mislead as to the closing date/time of promotions, or imply that discount offers were time-limited or would not be repeated if that was not the case. We also told them to ensure that future savings claims did not mislead, and to ensure they substantiated savings claims against the usual selling price of their products. We further told Origin to ensure they did not make claims about the orthopaedic and health properties of their products unless they could be fully substantiated. We referred the matter to CAP’s compliance team. " Upon looking at the webpage of Origin mattresses, you will see that practically all the claims have an asterix next to them. This asterix explanation at the bottom states that these claims are based on comparison to Origins own previous mattress. Essentially the claims are misleading. I have also noticed that when the promotion of 45%off finished, they immediately launched another promotion for the same discount. In essence, Origin continue to advertise an apparent sale when this is the usual selling price. I felt pressured to buy the mattress at the time because there was a 10 minute countdown timer. All terrible tactics. The reason Origin are able to dispose the mattresses when people return them is because they likely do not cost Origin much to produce and they are making high margins with their so-called sale prices. I have also noticed the following: -Origin do not sell their mattresses via independent retailers. This means there are very few impartial reviews. -Typically more springs on a mattress and more depth equals more quality. Origin are relying on people to perceive their mattresses as being better value to competitors based on this. In actual fact, it seems the springs used are inferior to standard ones. The foam used inflates to create more mattress depth but in my opinion has no orthopedic qualities as stated. I previously had a quality matress and my children have a midrange mattress which cost £200. I can tell you that the Origin Pro feels like a budget mattress. I feel that I have splashed out hundreds of pounds for a downgrade. I feel mis-sold, mis-led and ripped off. Looking at the reviews, Origin states you have to give it 25 days before returning under 200 day return policy. I just hope they cause me no issues with the refund when I request it.

The mattress itself is decent enough quality for the money but I was not sure about it working for me as a side sleeper. I have arthritis in my shoulder and found the mattress too firm . . luckily I had read before purchasing that it was covered by a sleep guarantee of 200 nights trial so was assured I could not make a mistake. It arrived on time and I found pretty quickly that it was just too firm for me so used a memory foam topper which made the mattress too deep for my sheets and bed. The minimum period for return is 30 days so I persevered until last week then after a terrible night I decided I just can’t continue. . my expectation was that it would be collected and returned to the manufacturer. This was the start of a difficult and stressful process where communication response takes a full day and it transpires that the mattress has to be collected by a local charity partner (admirable I thought) but they don’t have capacity to collect even within a month. . backwards and forward go the messages, each time asking for help to collect the mattress . . Today I was told I must dispose of it myself but I have to document it with photographs to be able to claim the refund . . now enough is enough, I have already supplied photos of every part of the mattress to prove that it is clean and perfect condition . . I have limited mobility live in a small top floor flat with six flights of stairs, no transport and no space to keep it . . what am I to do I wish now I had not bought this as in my case the sleep trail has been a disaster . . They really don’t want to collect and refund me as I expected so for that reason this mattress scores low . . I urge potential customers to take heed at my misfortune and check the small print.
