I run hot at night, so anything with cooling on the label gets my attention. First contact with the ActiCool® cover is impressive, a proper cold-to-the-touch surface. Settle in for a few minutes though and it fades to neutral, exactly as physics says it must. My read after time on it in store: expect the gel to take the edge off, and no more.

At 86kg the medium tension gave me a decent cradle on my side without the sunk-in feeling that makes me avoid full memory foam builds, and rolling from side to back took no effort. The edge compresses more than a spring-forward mattress if you sit right on it. It is also a tall mattress; it stood noticeably prouder than its neighbours on the display row.

When Dreams refreshed its TheraPur line it did not start this one from scratch. The ActiGel® Polar 1000 is the successor to the Polar 800, one of the brand's steadiest sellers, with a higher spring count and the same core idea: gel foam comfort over pocket springs at a price that undercuts most brand-name gel mattresses. TheraPur is Dreams' own in-house brand, which is why you will struggle to find it in most comparison charts.

The recipe

A thousand pocket springs handle the support, with a layer of ActiGel® foam above them and I-Fibre® and Platinum 3D® fillings in between. The whole thing wears a knitted ActiCool® cover that feels cool when you first touch it. The fillings carry an antibacterial and hypoallergenic finish, a practical touch if allergies are part of your shopping brief.

Gel foam is the reason to pick this over a standard pocket sprung bed. It moulds the way memory foam does but recovers faster; if you have tried memory foam and hated the trapped feeling, this is the halfway house.

About those cooling claims

Cooling is the whole sales pitch, so it needs pinning down. The cover is cool on contact and the gel layer holds less heat than classic memory foam. That is the full extent of it. Owners who run hot mostly say it helps: "I was suffering badly with night sweats, but the cooling gel finish has put an end to them", one wrote. Others felt no difference. "Me and my partner both overheat through the night and thought this would help but it doesn't", wrote another. A mattress cannot fix a warm bedroom. Cooler than memory foam, yes. Cooling in the air-conditioning sense, no.

Living with it

Two practical notes surface in the owner reviews. It is a deep mattress, deep enough that one owner "had to buy some deeper fitted sheets to account for the extra depth of the mattress", so measure before delivery day. And it is single-sided: rotate it end to end regularly and leave it at that. A complaint that recurs in the reviews is that it feels firmer at home than it did in the shop. One owner called it "very firm for a medium". For some "it just took a few weeks to adjust to", while another was still finding it "a little firmer than I'd like" after two months. The medium tension suits back and side sleepers of average build; front sleepers who like a hard, flat surface should look at the firmer end of the TheraPur range.

The verdict from owners

The reviews are mostly happy ones, and comfortable is the word owners use most. Some arrived at it through the sleep machine in store, "a perfect match for us after trying the dreams machine" as one put it. The unhappy reviews are few. Besides firmness and heat, a small number of owners report dips forming where they sleep. One wrote: "It is showing signs of dipping where we sleep despite turning the mattress as instructed". Another saw them "after just 1 week". The step up to the Polar 2000 buys a higher specification, but at a noticeably higher price. For most people the 1000 is the sensible middle of the range: the gel benefits, the pocket spring support, and a price that keeps the comfort guarantee as a safety net you probably will not need.

I had the previous version of this mattressthe Polar 800 in a doublewhich my partner and I loved. We found it comfortable, it helped us stay cool, and we always slept well on it. We wanted the same again, but Dreams had just discontinued it. We decided to buy this newer version and tried it in the shop. It felt a tad firmer, but it was difficult to tell in the shop. Since sleeping on it we can confirm this mattress is simply not a medium. It is like sleeping on the floor, it is so solid. We've kept persevering and even after 6 weeks, it is still so solid. There is no give to it. The is some give in the top layer but the springs are solid. I keep waking in the night with dead limbs. Both my partner, who is now pregnant, and I keep waking up feeling like we've slept on the floor with achy muscles and backs which we never had before. I think this would only start to feel Medium if you were 16 stone plus. Also, the mattress absolutely stunk for the first 2-3 weeks. The chemical smell was so awful it didn't feel suitable for humans to sleep on. We had to leave it to air in our spare room before we could use it. Luckily we kept our old mattress! It's really disappointing and I would not recommend this mattress. It's always such a shame when manufacturers change something for the worse. We are going to exchange it.

DO NOT BUY We purchased two TheraPur ActiGel Polar 1000 D mattresses along with the Adwell Ottoman Dark Grey Double Bed Frame, and it has been one of the worst purchasing experiences we've had. The TheraPur ActiGel Polar 1000 D mattress is extremely disappointing. It is very noisy, sinks noticeably when sitting on it, and dips whenever you move from one side to the other. It is uncomfortable to sleep on and has left us with back pain. To make matters worse, Dreams' customer service has been equally disappointing. They showed little interest in addressing our concerns or resolving the issues, leaving us feeling completely let down. The Adwell Ottoman Dark Grey Double Bed Frame is also poorly designed. The storage compartment is not sealed properly, with significant gaps that allow dust and dirt from the floor to enter. This defeats the purpose of having enclosed storage and makes it impractical. Overall, I would not recommend either of these products or the after-sales service provided by Dreams. Based on our experience, I would strongly advise potential buyers to look elsewhere.

I bought this mattress in January after reading great reviews I bought it in the shop. Staff very helpful , It felt like a good mattress at the time , cool and was not as firm after exchanging one that was too firm . The one that arrived did not fell medium but felt more soft and started dipping a lot shortly after a couple of month and being an uneven surface. Soft Edges dipping also I put on a thick mattress topper but still not made a difference. Since purchasing the mattress I got serious lower back muscle spasm sciatica waking up constantly difficult to turn on mattress cause of dipping and discomfort. I had to change this mattress back to my old mattress I have in the spare bedroom . Not ideal at all . I feel like I wasted a lot of money. These short term guarantees are not very much use to be honest as it cost me more money already for exchanging the first mattress and delivery again. I wouldnt recommend this mattress as its too warm not cooling to soft dipping difficult to turn , not the quality I was hoping for when tested and paying for it.

I tried a few different mattresses in my local store and chose this one, partly due to the price jump to the next one up which I did prefer but didnt think I could stretch to. Ive now had it for almost 2 months and have been diligently turning it once a week (the instructions say to do that for the first 3 months!!). At first I regretted my choice because it was too hard, but Id read some reviews that said it takes a few weeks to soften a bit, so Ive persevered. I do sometimes wake up with lower back ache, which I didnt have with my old mattress (which was only replaced because I needed a bigger bed and I couldnt get the same mattress any more). The other gripe with it for me is that I feel every movement my partner makes - Im a light sleeper so that really affects me. My previous, softer, mattress wasnt as bad for that. Again, Im hoping with time that gets better. If it doesnt then Ill have to choose between changing the mattress or turfing my partner out (lol).

I purchased this mattress at the beginning of April and wanted to wait a few months before writing a review. I love it. I loved it then and i still love it now! I had a difficult time deciding between this one in medium firmness and the firm rated version but ultimately opted for this the medium and its perfect. I had been previously experiencing hip pain as im a side sleeper and also back ache but thats all gone now. The service in the Uddingston store was really knowledgeable and helpful in letting me squish, bounce and test all the different mattresses! The assessment bed is definately worth doing as it narrows the search effectively. Delivery was quick and the guys were really friendly, overall a great experience for someone who genuinely didnt have a clue where to start! Thanks Dreams! This was an upgrade from a cheap online mattress bought over a year ago that became very lumpy very quickly. I did the sleep analysis bed in store and this was one of the mattress recommended to me by the programme. I tried out several but this really seemed to feel 'right' to me, the top cool foam is soft and cushioning whilst the underlying sprung mattress is firm, a really comfortable combination. There are no tufts (that I can feel) so nothing to dig in. The foam moulds around you, supporting every part of you so that weight is evenly distributed, but unlike previous memory foam mattresses I've had it isn't too hot or sticky! I ended up spending more than I wanted to on a mattress, but it has been worth every penny, I no longer wake up constantly in the night and am getting a much deeper and less interrupted night's sleep. Absolutely worth the expense!

This mattress is so uncomfortable. It is way firmer than the one I tried in store, as other reviews state, and I really do not understand the medium firmness rating. It is basically one step up from sleeping on the hard floor. I have had it for over a month and I barely sleep a few hours every night and get up every morning with back pain. Additionally, when I went to the store to complain about how hard it is, the staff just walked away from me when they realised I wasnt buying a new mattress and they wouldnt receive commission. They then repeated its a medium mattress at me, not believing how firm it is, until I gave up and left. Luckily I now have a new mattress scheduled for exchange next week. I only gave an extra star because the cooling actigel is very good and the mattress does feel very cool to the touch

I searched for weeks in different shops looking for a bed that would, suit my needs and give me a good nights sleep. O have a back problem and a lung disease which causes me to have difficult nights, I'm restless and can never get comfortable at night to sleep. I finally found the one, the one bed that had not only given me the ability to feel relaxed and comfortable but i SLEEP. This is a big deal to me ,as i can sometimes go several night without any. The bed mattress exterior in a lovely soft light padding, and although the mattress is class as soft its still firm enough, that it allows my spine the correct position. I've always had trouble getting a good night's sleep. I never knew if it was just me or the sleep quality. I was hesitant spending too much on a good mattress, but thought I'd give it a go. If I could give this mattress a 0 I would. It is awful. In the shop it was soft, comfortable and cooling. The mattresses (double and single) we have been sent are rock hard and I have had to have time off work I am in that much pain. We can't sleep in the bed any longer and have opted for the floor and the settee as even that isn't comfy, it's still better than this mattress. We are still trying to pick new mattresses as part of the 100 night gaurentee but there is nothing else that's actually soft to try. I have lost all faith in dreams and would prefer my money back, given this feels so much firmer than the shop - we have had the mattresses for about 8 weeks now. I just want our money back.

Having had this mattress for a few weeks, I can now give an honest review. We went to Dreams and had a mattress fitting. I was somewhat sceptical about the whole process, but we were given a list of about 4 mattresses to try. All seemed comfortable enough, my wife favoured one and I preferred a different one. Obviously, we went with the one she liked! This has proven to be a great decision, our new mattress is probably the most comfortable Ive ever slept on. Delivery was perfect, all to schedule and the delivery guys were efficient and took care to avoid getting any dirt in the house. Id definitely recommend the mattress as well as the whole service we had from Dreams

We bought this a couple of weeks ago and have been pleasantly surprised at how comfortable it is! When in the shop we were taken through to use the sleep match scanning machine where, although it felt a bit strange, the sales lady was very good at explaining what would happen. She was very knowledgable and not pushy salesperson. Once we made our choice payment and delivery were dealt with professionally. Delivery times were given promptly and reminder sent a couple of days previous to delivery. Furthermore a call was given to advise approximate time of delivery on the day. The mattress is very comfortable and keeps a cool temperature due to the gel in it. It is perfect for us.

We went in the store to 'look' around. Tried the sleep thing with some gentle (not at all pushy) help from staff and then tried out three options, we felt no pressure to buy and not in the slightest silly considering we were trying different mattresses out. When we settled on this one I was fairly nervous as I have hip problems that can be exacerbated by mattresses that are too soft or firm but we've had this mattress a month now and I've been sleeping better than ever before! Perfect amount of support while still feeling cozy and cuddly. I would recommend it to anyone because the price compared to some of the others in store makes it an absolute steal!

I had to undertake the boring task of finding a new mattress after not being satisfied with some Emma ones we ordered. Dreams were great with helping us figure out what we wanted and giving us options. We ended up buying this mattress as it gives a good amount of support while remaining soft, and being cool to touch. And it has made a huge difference! I find this mattress really comfortable, easy to get to sleep on and it keeps you at the right temperature all night. As someone who sometimes wakes up in the middle of the night all sweaty, this mattress has helped to reduce that and make it all less intense. I would definitely recommend it!

It's an understatement to say we're disappointed. Awful is being too polite. When we tested the mattress in the store, it had a medium support that felt soft and incredibly comfortablemy wife and I both thought it was perfect. However, the mattress we received feels as hard as a rock. There is either a production error, or we have been sold the wrong item! It feels like a huge scam, especially with the 100-day exchange policy when the difference is so extreme. If it were just a slight variation, I could understand (because more people had tried the store mattress), but this feels like a completely different product! Waste of money!

This is a shockingly poor quality mattress for the price. After two days it started dipping and is about 1inch lower than the springs around. I sent a picture to Dreams customer service email and they want to do an 'inspection' of the bed even though the mattress is clearly broken. All the while I have to sleep on it in this state. Not offered any refund yet and not impressed with the customer service even when I tried to explain that I really didn't want to risk anyone coming into my home and touching my bed due to my Disability. They still said I'd have to have the inspection if I wanted the refund. Crappy quality and bad experience.

We tested it out in store and were really impressed. The price was around 800 ish and believe me when I say it was worth every penny. The guy we dealt with in store was incredibly helpful! The first night sleeping on it was the best nights sleep wed had in months. Its a medium mattress and sort of moulds to you whilst you sleep but still supports you. My feller is recovering from a serious leg break (pins and everything - bionic man). Which really was what forced us into getting a new mattress in the first place. He reckons its nice not having Random springs poking him in the incision sites.. cant imagine why lol!

After being assessed for the best mattress for me and trying out a few in the Penarth Road, Cardiff store I then visited the Newport Road, Cardiff store to purchase the mattress as it was closer to my home. I was concerned about whether it would be right for me but I find it so comfortable I am now struggling to get out of bed in the mornings. I absolutely love this mattress and no longer feel my back curving when I sleep on my front and no longer get a dead arm/hand lying on my side. This mattress was delivered 2 weeks ago to replace a new one recently bought from elsewhere. This is a lovely mattress, soft but supportive, firm but not hard, everything we looked for. Some softer mattresses almost give way when you lie on them or sit on the side - not this one. But at the same time it is not firm or hard - we specifically avoided those mattresses. All in all it gives a great night's sleep. Perhaps because of the 'actigel' the mattress did give off a smell for over a week. It has now worn off and we were reassured by Dreams that the smell was not harmful. We're glad we stuck with it.

We attended the Hull branch of Dreams to purchase a mattress. We found the staff friendly and approachable, especially Dan who helped us use the sleep match to find the most comfortable mattress. The store was covid safe and we found the shopping experience to be relaxed and easy. The purchase of the mattress was straightforward, we ordered from Dan by telephoning the next day and the confirmation and delivery were exactly as promised. We spent a little more than we wanted to but that's probably not unusual ..... we were treated to the sleep diagnostic experience and this was one of the possibles suggested as a result. Decided to take the plunge as sore bits'n'pieces on waking was starting to take it's toll. Thus far (two weeks in) we are pleasantly surprised at the difference its made to our sleeping .... the cool surface is lovely and achey joints don't seem so troublesome. Slightly early maybe, to claim total success but well on the way we think .... hopefully the extra will be worth it in the long run.

After years of disturbed sleep, fatigue and frequent lower back and hip pain, I have enjoyed sleeping around 6 hours continuously and woken up to comfort in my hips and back. Weve had our new frame and mattress for almost 2 weeks now and what a difference it has made to our quality of sleep! I used to wake up with a few odd aches and pains and I thought it was due to the way I was sleeping. The TheraPur Acti Gel Polar 1000 combination mattress has made a significant difference to my joint pain whilst sleeping which is great and is extremely comfortable. The no movement when a person turns over is amazing too, I can get out of bed for my nightime bathroom runs without disturbing my partner. The mattress is about half the thickness of my old one and much lighter therefore can be turned more easily by one person. My only tiny issue is that it feels slightly firmer than the one we tried in the show room which Im hoping may change slightly with more use.

Unfortunately I don't feel it's worth the month spent. Not only do I seem to be sweating more than my previous mattress for some reason all of my double fitted sheets do not fit the mattress. I raised this issue with customer services and was told it's clearly my sheets and not the mattress which is ridiculous... I should have just listened to other people and bought a mattress cheaper and saved my money!

The service from the assistant at Dreams was outstanding. I am very pleased with the mattress and with help and advice from the assistant I chose the mattress to suit my needs. Sorry in the two weeks I've had this mattress I have not slept well at all. I can only describe it as like sleeping on a yoga mat..no give in it, no comforting welcome. Not like sleeping on the floor but not much better. I'll be changing it tomorrow. Also the ottoman base it came with, as there is no base or castors / feet. So the rectangular base is directly on to your carpet. It won't budge even with my feet on the wall and back against the bed base. So decorating behind the headboard is impossible. Ordered this mattress four weeks ago, was happy it arrived seven days later as our old mattress was broken and needed urgent replacing. The mattress is firm at first and took some getting used to, but now find it comfortable three weeks on. It is very thick, and a snug fit on our bed despite being the correct measurements for a standard double. I like this as it means the cover doesn't slip off in the night! It arrived in the midst of the heatwave and is actually cooler than our previous mattress thanks to the gel layer as advertised.

We've had our mattress for over a fortnight now. Took delivery of new TheraPur AntiGel Polar Mattress on 2nd August. Its very comfortable and I can feel the cool effects. However after just a couple of nights, it showed a slight dip where I'm sleeping. As it's single size, I can only move so far on the mattress. I'm only just over 8 stone, so shouldn't be too heavy for it. I've turned it top to bottom as advised after 2 weeks, so will be watching closely to see how it behaves. It is comfortable, so don't really want the hassle of changing it!!!

I recently bought one of those mattresses from the tv but had to return it. It caused my back and hip pains to get worse. I spoke to a dreams advisor and ordered a mattress through them. The mattress is softer and I no longer wake through the night with pains in my hip and back. I am very pleased with it. i didnt realise that your weight also has an impact on whether a mattress is suitable for you. Memory foam wasn't good for me. I didnt sink into it at all. But this gel mattress is much better.

We have only had the mattress for coming on 2 weeks, but we are loving it, getting a great nights sleep, we were advised to turn it around so it gets an all over use and keeps it level, we have noticed it has risen at the bottom end. My husband and I bought the TheraPur Actigel Rejuvenate 800 mattress due to our ongoing health problems. My last couple of mattresses have been memory foam ones because previous sprung ones felt uncomfortable. This mattress, however feels like sleeping on a cloud. I have arthritic knees and my previous mattress didnt seem to have enough support. This one is firm enough for support and has a soft and cosy feel. Love it! This mattress is not medium, it is very uncomfortable and has aggravated my sciatica to the point where I am in constant pain. I would probably be better off sleeping on the floor and am grateful for the 100 night guarantee that Dreams offer because after one night of sleeping on it I advised them I would be looking to change it. After years of using the same old mattress, I decided it was time to purchase a brand new one. From choosing, purchasing to delivery the whole process was quick and easy. As to the mattress itself, Ive never had a better night sleep. compared to a typical spring mattress (like I had before) the combination mattress. Was like sleeping on a pillow air. We went into the Dreams store to get SleepMatch-ed as we had no idea where to start with mattress shopping! The technology was brilliant! We have had this mattress for some time and my wife really likes the support, however I find it way too soft. We also noted that the mattress does not fully recover and after only a short time the indents from our waists are a permanent feature. Hard to comment on the cool top as we have had a mattress protector on for the trial duration which does not give you any of the cooling effect. Overall a good mattress but for us we decided to change to a Firm one instead.

It's easy to lie on a bed in a shop for 2 minutes and declare it's much comfier than your old one but its another thing to actually have it as your bed and use it every night. We've had our new mattress for a couple of weeks now and after a night or two of getting used to it, we're both really really happy with our purchase. I bought this about six weeks ago, my previous mattress must have been over 10 years old and frankly in a sorry state. Ive been impressed with the new mattresses ability to hold shape and more by the cooling material, it feels a bit like excess heat is wicked away - which is great for me as Ill usually have the window open throughout the year. I think comfortability depends on the individual. We went into a dreams store and got a body scan which suggested we looked in the category that this mattress was under. We tried all of them and came to the decision that this one was the most comfiest. It has cooling gels in the mattress that are supposed to keep it cool however after a month of sleeping on it. Its not as cool as Id hoped for. Price wise on the more expensive side. Worth it ? Hmmm

Visited the Hedge End store and chose a bed frame and mattress with Noels assistance. Noel was brilliant-explained how to find the best mattress for me and very happily showed me lots of options in the store. He was great. I bought this mattress because I wanted a fairly hard mattress but one that still felt comfortable. don't bother wasting your money, it doesn't cool you down, the outer is cover poor quality and bobbling it is only 14 months old . It is showing signs of dipping where we sleep despite turning the mattress as instructed, and small tears in the fabric on the sides. I have not noticed any difference in my back pain but only ticked the box to carry on with the review , it is not the most comfortable mattress and wished we had never brought it.

Worst mattress I have ever had the displeasure to try and sleep on. My wife slept on it for one night only, found incredibly uncomfortable and could noy put up with the fumes coming off the mattress. I have slept on it for 8 nights only, the mattress now has a large dip where I sleep, I weigh in at 80Kgs so not particularly heavy weight for an adult. I don't know if this normal for this mattress or whether we have just been unlucky.

After suffering five years of boiling nights on an expensive memory foam mattress and then suffering from a bad back due to the memory foam losing its shape this mattress was heaven sent. This mattress was so comfortable in the shop, not so sure now its home. It crinkles like its got a cheap rubber sheet when fidgetting, its very firm for a medium (well aware the one in the shop would be softer as its been used), seems smaller then our last mattress of the same size meaning we are kicking each other more. Firm and comfortable. The upper gel layer really makes this mattress a winner. It's firm enough that you don't sink into it and curve your spine too much, but the gel layer on top gives you a soft, comfortable bed that you can sleep on in any position. The gel layer does have a funny smell that I can still get whiffs of a few weeks later, but it's barely noticeable and the manufacturer says that it should go away in time.

I bought this mattress a couple of weeks ago following moving house and our mattress getting broken. We used the in store tool which you laid on and told you which mattresses were suited to your needs. This mattress is actually comfier than our last especially for laying on your front. After carefull selection we chose this matress. After three months my partner and I began to feel that we were rolling out to the edges of the matress. This was a result of the matress wearing unevely, and two dips forming on either side of a ridge in the centre of the matress.We exchanged the matress for a Sleepezee Paddington matress., we await the outcome of that matress. Only downsiissue I had which was a bit of a stinger on the ordeal was commercial, right after I bought it it'd gone down 150 in value, and I was told by the storesman that you could claim any differences back in 30 days but actually the bed couldn't have been delivered, so few days after delivery it went down in value and I lost out on 150 savings.

We thought we'd never agree on a mattress - my husband a front sleeper and me, considerably lighter, sleeping on my side - but then we immediately enjoyed trying this one in the shop and have both very much enjoyed it at home for the last month! I spend a good while choosing this mattress and found it very comfortable in the showrrom. I get very hot at night and so was attracted by the cooling gel surface. The gel works well you can feel the cooling effect. However the mattress was much firmer than I expected. I'm hoping it will settle over time, I have been using it for 2 months and it is still a little firmer than I'd like.

Very comfy and good quality mattress. Definitely improved our sleep quality. I wish there were some advice about mattress protectors though, as any help with heat regulation has been somewhat stopped by a waterproof mattress protector. The edge of the mattress took a little while to get used to, but once we'd slept on it a couple of nights it soon levelled out.

We chose the TheraPur Actigel 800 over another very similar mattress and it was a very hard choice. The ActiGel 800 has a medium firmness with a soft top layer, which makes it extremely comfortable and Ive had a couple of weeks of great nights sleep. Me and my cat both love our new therapur actigel mattress. Its comfortable whilst still being very supportive, its soft enough that I dont toss and turn with joint pain like I used to, but its also solid enough to be easy to get out of bed. Lumpier than the one it replaced. Sheets slide off the mattress making it impossible to sleep through the night. Bought new sheets but didnt help. Ive ordered a mattress topper now to put on it so see if that solves the problems. At 74, I thought this would be the last mattress I'd buy, but just caused myself more trouble. All that money too.

This is a great bed. There was a problem with the electrics generally but Dreams delayed delivery until it was sorted. I am very happy with this purchase - comfortable and does what it says on the tin! The mattress is really comfortable. It has enough support to prevent joint and back pains but is squishy enough to feel cosy and soft, without any additional toppers. We rotate the mattress as recommended (every 1-2 weeks) and the mattress has maintained its shape and structure. We have the mattress on an ottoman bed which works well.

Bought this matress after moving into my new home. Better than sleeping on a cheap temporary single matress and significantly better than matresses I've owned previously. We bought this mattress 3 weeks ago on finance and it's been great. Delivery was on time, setting up our account on finance was easy and the mattress itself is wonderful.
