Over the last decade, I've been fortunate enough to test, review and critique a wide array of mattress products in store, focusing my attention on factors such as design, construction, comfort, and value for money. A product that has recently caught my attention is the TEMPUR® Duxford Ergomotion Adjustable Upholstered Bed Frame. I tried this one in a Dreams store.
Design and Features
The TEMPUR® Duxford Ergomotion Adjustable Upholstered Bed Frame stands out at first glance, thanks to its tall statement headboard enriched with vertical stitching encased in a chic border edge. What adds to the allure is the wide variety of plush, soft-touch textured fabric available in chic colours. Light oak legs lend it a sublime elegance. A rather striking feature that cannot go unnoticed are the incorporated USB-C and USB-A charging points - an ingenious addition tailored to suit contemporary lifestyles. Providing added comfort and a luxe appeal are Ergomotion bases that replace the standard slats on the Duxford bed frame. Truth be told, I'm sceptical of how long the tech stays current, given how fast it moves, and the sizing and mattress rules are confusing.
Construction
The Duxford Ergomotion Adjustable Upholstered Bed Frame is not merely appealing to the eye but has been created with an emphasis on functionality. Choose from the Ergomotion Elite base featuring zero gravity technology and a built-in massage unit or the Ergomotion Smart base that has anti-snore technology and integrated sleep tracking facility. Both models offer USB-C and A charging points and ambient under-bed lighting for added convenience. Some sizes need two mattresses, and the visible gap between base and mattress spoils the look. The mattress is extra, and the one-year guarantee is short for the money.
Suitability
While the overall construction, ergonomics, and aesthetics of the TEMPUR® Duxford Ergomotion Adjustable Upholstered Bed Frame are worth mentioning, it does come with its own set of caveats. Having examined this product in store, I couldn't help but be bewildered by the complex choice of base options. Customisation is welcome, but the selection of bases is overwhelming. A super king needs two 200cm single mattresses, so a couple who want one surface should look elsewhere. Considering the array of choices, it is essential for anyone planning to purchase this bed frame to comprehend their specific requirements fully.
What Customers Thought
Owners are pleased with it, mostly for comfort and sleep. One owner with medical conditions called it "the most comfortable bed ever", while another wrote simply "great sleep now". A longer review comes from an owner who uses the positions morning and night: the slightly raised head and feet for sleeping, the reading position at bedtime and the zero gravity setting for "a cuppa and some phone scrolling before getting up". They added that "my Apple Watch tells me my sleep is much better" and that the lower back niggles they suffer with had not come back three weeks in.
The Verdict
After having thoroughly reviewed the TEMPUR® Duxford Ergomotion Adjustable Upholstered Bed Frame, I must commend the brand on delivering a product that represents a beautiful amalgamation of style, comfort and advanced sleep technology. The bed frame's luxurious design and ergonomically supportive construction are features that set it apart from its counterparts in the market. But the confusing sizing, the two mattresses some sizes need and a one-year guarantee are proper drawbacks. Having viewed this product in person in store, I can tell you the solid features are real, but the prerequisites and conditions rule it out for a lot of people. Add the upgrades and the price climbs fast, and to my mind adjustable beds are overpriced for most people anyway.
The TEMPUR® Duxford Ergomotion Adjustable Upholstered Bed Frame is an outstanding product that employs some clever features but requires a careful and patient customer who can navigate through its various customisation options, a customer who is willing to disregard some of the flaws for the sake of a good night's sleep borne of impressive ergonomics and technology.
