Why our sleep experts loved it
I got my hands on the Silentnight Miracoil Pillow Top Limited Edition Mattress on a showroom visit and spent a good while pressing into the pillow top and having a proper lie down on it. It’s pitched as medium to firm and it’s handcrafted in the UK with Silentnight's Eco Comfort Fibre™ which is designed to help keep you cooler through the night while still feeling soft, hypoallergenic and made from recyclable materials.
This is a mattress from the leading UK bed manufacturer, Silentnight. This medium-firm mattress has Miracoil® springs so it offers great support, and the first thing I noticed was how springy and ‘on top’ it feels compared to a lot of foam-heavy mattresses. Sitting on the edge, it held me up better than I expected for a pillow top, but you do still get a bit of squash from that top layer, so if you perch on the side a lot you’ll notice it. The knitted cover does feel properly plush under the hand, but it’s also the sort of fabric that can catch if you’re rough with it, so I’d be careful when rotating it. It’s hypoallergenic and approved by Allergy UK, which is a nice touch if you’re sensitive.
When I lay on my back, my hips felt nicely supported and I could feel the Miracoil® unit pushing back evenly rather than dipping in one spot. On my side though, it’s definitely on the firmer end of ‘medium-firm’, and lighter side sleepers could find it a bit hard around the shoulder, even with the pillow top. Motion isolation is not its strong point either, Miracoil tends to pass movement across more than a pocket spring mattress, so if you’re sharing with a fidget, you’ll probably feel it. The Silentnight Miracoil Pillow Top Limited Edition Mattress contours to your body shape and provides you with support and comfort where you need it most, but for me personally it’s best suited to back sleepers, and heavier side sleepers who want that firmer, more supportive feel.
