Why our sleep experts loved it
The Silentnight Moretto Miracoil Mattress is one of the latest in a refreshed and consumer centric line-up of new Silentnight Mattresses which has plenty to offer in terms of value, comfort and reward. I got my hands on this one in-store and spent a bit of time pressing into the surface and having a quick lie down, just to see if it felt like a proper step up from the usual budget open coil options.
Many of the new Silentnight Mattresses are coming with the unique Eco Comfort Fibres with the Moretto being a class leading example. Running my hand across the top, it felt soft and slightly springy rather than that slow, sink-in feel you get from memory foam, and it bounced back quickly when I pushed my palm in. The Eco Comfort Fibres are made up of soft recycled polyester to operate as a top comfort layer, and do so with some decent results. That said, if you're expecting a plush, hotel-style pillow top, this isn't that, the comfort layer is more about taking the edge off the springs than giving you loads of squish.
The Silentnight Moretto Miracoil Mattress features Silentnight's patented miracoil spring system which is a slight variation against open coil spring systems, ideal for those on a budget looking to get increased value out of their mattress. When I sat right on the edge, it held up better than some basic open coil mattresses I've tried, but you can still feel it compress more than a pocket sprung mattress would. Motion isolation is also only ok, when I shifted my weight around I could feel a bit of ripple through the surface, so if you're a light sleeper with a wriggly partner, it's worth bearing in mind.
I like the Silentnight Moretto Miracoil Mattress, it does all the right things at the right price point to ensure you get a decent night's sleep every night, by being medium-firm tension, it will lean toward a firmer feel but that should be sufficient for the vast majority of people. On my back it felt nicely supportive through the hips, and I didn't get that hammock feeling you sometimes get on cheaper coils. On my side though, I could feel a bit of pressure building around the shoulder after a minute or two, which is why I think lighter side sleepers will probably get on better with a true medium. If you are a side sleeper with a smaller profile you may want to look toward something more in the medium tension segment. Also worth saying, for the money I'd like to see proper side handles for rotating, because this is the sort of mattress you'll want to keep on top of to help it wear evenly.
