Why our sleep experts loved it
I had the chance to test the SensaGel 6000 in store at Furniture Village, and it made a very good first impression. This is a high-end, UK-made hybrid with a very deep gel foam comfort system and a mega spring count. The result is a medium, plushly cushioned feel, which leapt out to me as potentially very good for side sleepers who want pressure relief without losing the gentle bounce-back of springs. Furniture Village is the exclusive retailer for this model, which comes with a 20-year structural guarantee, to help justify the premium price point.
Construction & Materials
This is a 31 cm deep hybrid that mixes classic pocket springs with a separate layer of mini springs, and a couple of inches of plush foam comfort layers. Headline numbers point to 6100 springs, but as is often the case at this level of count, many of those are micro or mini springs layered above a base of full-size pocket springs. The top layer is a built-in pillow top, with double-depth memory foam combined with mini pocket springs and a plush comfort layer, finished with a cool-touch knitted cover. The main mattress combines Sleepeezee’s Dreamzone, profiled, body-contouring gel foam over the spring unit, plus a high-density support layer beneath. It is a non-turn mattress, so you simply rotate it from head to toe.
Firmness & Feel
Rated medium, the in-store feel was plush and instantly pressure-relieving. Lying on my side, my shoulder and hip sank in without the stuck-in-foam sensation you get with all-in-foam pillows. Lying on my back, the pillow-top softness was there, and I could feel my lumbar curve being cradled rather than held flat, which some lighter back sleepers will love. If you are a heavier back sleeper, or you prefer a flatter, firmer plane, this may feel a touch too soft in the top layers. The deep gel foam is generous and gives a buoyant, slightly cool cradle rather than the slower, spongy sink of classic memory foam.
Performance & Support
Pressure relief: Excellent for side sleepers. The pillow-top foam and mini springs disperse load nicely at the shoulder and hip, and the underlying pockets stop you bottoming out. In my store trial I could linger on one side without that pinchy feel developing.
Spinal alignment: On side, alignment felt natural. On back, the top comfort stack feels indulgent and a shade plush. If you primarily sleep supine and like medium-firm or firm, I would consider a different feel in the same range.
Edge support: Claimed edge-to-edge support is good for a pillow-top design. I could sit near the border without dramatic collapse, though as with most pillow-tops, the top couple of centimetres do compress, so you get a hint of roll-off right at the edge.
Motion isolation: Very solid. The tall comfort stack and pocketed construction dampen movement well, so partner disturbance should be low for a sprung mattress with this much comfort foam.
Temperature Regulation
The cool-touch knitted cover and Dreamzone gel foam are designed to draw heat away from the body. In my brief time on it I did not feel clammy or overly warm, which is encouraging for a pillow-top. Realistically, any double-depth memory foam can hold a little warmth in summer, but the gel and the airflow from all those springs should keep it closer to neutral than many all-foam rivals.
Practical Features
It is single-sided, so there is no flipping, just seasonal rotation. The weights are substantial, as you would expect for a 31 cm hybrid, so rotating is a two-person job, but that is normal in this class. If you are placing it on a slatted frame, check your gaps do not exceed 7.5 cm, otherwise you risk excess settlement. The hypoallergenic spec and long structural guarantee are welcome touches at this level.
Who It Suits
Side sleepers: A very good match. The plush pillow-top and gel foam take pressure off shoulders and hips while the spring core keeps things responsive.
Combination sleepers: If you rotate between side and back, the bouncy pocket springs make repositioning easy, and the top comfort layers feel forgiving when you roll onto your side.
Hot-natured sleepers who dislike pure foam: The breathable spring core, gel foam and cool-touch cover are designed to run cooler than memory-foam-only designs.
Who It Doesn't Suit
Predominant back sleepers wanting firm support: With its generous pillow-top, the surface feels a touch plush. If you are above average body weight or prefer a very flat, supportive plane, this medium feel may be too soft.
People who insist on a true two-sided mattress: This is rotate-only, not turnable. If you like flipping for longevity, look at a double-sided pocket sprung option instead.
Final Verdict
The SensaGel 6000 is a classic modern pillow-top hybrid, premium in build and comfort. The 6000-plus count is driven in part by the layer of mini springs rather than only full-height pockets, but that is not a negative here, it is part of why it feels so plush without going mushy. For side sleepers and anyone chasing that cushioned, gently buoyant medium feel, it is a standout. Back sleepers who want a firmer hold should try before buying and may prefer a firmer model. Overall, thanks to its deep gel foam, breathable spring core, cool-touch cover and long guarantee, this is a strong buy from a trusted retailer, especially if you love that hotel-bed pillow-top comfort.
