Why our sleep experts loved it
The new Sealy Posturepedic Pearl Memory Mattress ticks a lot of boxes for prospective buyers with it's featuring of both memory foam and posturepedic support.
I got my hands on this one in-store and the first thing I did was press down through the top panel with my palm, you can feel that 2.5cm memory foam give, then you hit a much firmer, more supportive base underneath.
Through a combination of both luxurious comfort and full zonal support, the Sealy Posturepedic Pearl Memory Mattress is superb for those looking for a firmer mattress that is still soft enough to give a comfortable nights sleep,
On my back it felt nicely held through the hips, no sagging, and my lower back stayed supported rather than dropping in. On my side though, I could feel the firmness a bit more around the shoulder, so if you're a lighter side sleeper (say under about 70kg) this could come up a touch too hard.
The posturepedic range stands out in it's ability to offer excellent support that helps evenly distribute weight across the mattress in a contoured and measured fashion, ensuring maximum support and spine alignment that help reduce aches and pains in common problem areas like the neck and back.
That said, if you're expecting that slow, deep 'hug' you get from thicker memory foam mattresses, this one isn't that. With only 2.5cm up top, it cushions, but it doesn't swallow you, which is great for ease of turning, but not ideal if you want lots of sink.
The top layer of the mattress comes with an impressive and plush 2.5cm of memory foam that will give adequate pressure relief while also giving you that cloud-like sleeping sensation.
I also noticed it warms up fairly quickly once you're on it, which is normal for memory foam, but worth saying if you tend to sleep hot. It's not unbearable, but it's not one I'd pick as a 'cool' mattress either.
Finally, this mattress is finished with a Purotex fibre cover. Purotex is a new hypoallergenic technology that is endorsed by Allergy UK, giving you a restful and painless nights sleep.
Running my hand across the Purotex cover it felt smooth and nicely finished, but I couldn't see any proper side handles, so rotating it is a bit more of a faff than it needs to be. For me personally, it's a good option if you want firm support with a bit of memory foam comfort, but if you're a dedicated side sleeper or you want loads of contouring, I'd keep looking.
