Why our sleep experts loved it
I got my hands on the Horizon Voyager Memory Mattress recently and it's a simple, no fuss memory foam build that aims for support first, with a bit of that slow sink on top. Running my hand across the knitted cover, it felt soft and stretchy rather than tight and plasticky, which is always a good start. The memory foam responds to your body's individual shape, providing pressure relief and a luxurious feel. The Horizon Voyager features a knitted cover for added comfort and a removable cover for easy care. The mattress is 25cm deep and is single sided, meaning that the support layer is on the bottom and the comfort layer is on the top, so you're rotating rather than flipping.
It combines soft, yet supportive memory foam with a knitted cover that's removable and machine washable. When I pressed my palm into the surface, you get that classic memory foam 'print' that takes a second to come back, so if you like a bit of contouring you'll probably enjoy it. With a firmer than average reflex foam base, this gives a great amount of support that pairs beautifully with the memory foam layer, on my back I felt my hips held up nicely without that hammock feeling you can get on softer all-foam beds. The trade-off is that reflex foam doesn't have the same springy airflow as a pocket spring unit, and memory foam can sleep warmer, so if you run hot this one might not be your best mate in summer. Edge support is also just ok, sitting on the side I could feel it dip more than a sprung mattress, which is normal for foam but worth knowing if you perch on the edge to get dressed.
I actually have a variant of this product as my main mattress in the form of the Horizon Discovery. The Discovery and Voyager are very similar with the only difference being the support layer from the discovery featuring pocket springs instead of reflex foam. Either option will provide for a great nights sleep, but if you're a side sleeper and on the lighter side, this firmer base can feel a bit unforgiving around the shoulder compared to the pocket sprung Discovery. For me personally, the Voyager makes most sense if you want that steady, firmer support and you don't need loads of bounce or edge strength.
