The Ideal Home Herrington Ottoman Bed Frame gave me a quieter impression in the showroom than several other Ideal Home branded frames I have seen. It does not chase the boutique-hotel look, and buyers wanting a bed that announces itself from the doorway may find it a little restrained. Quiet choice. For a traditional bedroom with existing furniture, though, that softer approach is exactly the point.
The colours looked easy to live with under shop lighting: gentle, muted and unlikely to clash with painted wardrobes or older bedside tables. I would still be careful with online colour choice, because upholstery can shift noticeably between showroom lamps and a north-facing bedroom. Worth getting a swatch where possible.
How it looks in the room
The Herrington’s biggest visual strength is the headboard. The slight twist in the shape gives it a bit of movement, and without that detail the whole frame would risk feeling too plain. I liked it in person because it avoids the bulky, over-padded look some ottoman beds fall into.
There is a limit to the charm, mind you. This is a blending-in bed, not a centrepiece. Put it in a room with bold wallpaper or contemporary black furniture and it may fade into the background. In a softer scheme, that same restraint becomes useful. It lets the bedding do the talking.
Against something like the Dreams Wilson Upholstered Ottoman, the Herrington feels calmer and more traditional in its styling. The Dreams option has a stronger hotel-room feel; this one is better for a bedroom that already has a settled, lived-in character.
Frame feel and ottoman storage
I handled the display model in store and the frame felt solid enough to trust at first contact. No loose shudder from the headboard, no worrying flex as I checked the base, and the overall impression was of a properly put-together ottoman rather than a flimsy storage bed with fabric pulled over it.
The lift mechanism opened smoothly on the shop floor. That test only goes so far. A showroom bed is usually empty, and the real strain comes once the base is filled with spare bedding, bags or seasonal clutter. I could judge the action, not how the mechanism will feel after years of being opened every week.
Storage is clearly the reason to choose it over a standard upholstered frame. The Herrington keeps that practicality visually discreet, which I liked, although the inside did not strike me as especially luxurious. At this end of the market I want the unseen areas to feel as considered as the fabric face. Here, the finish was acceptable rather than impressive.
Who should shortlist it
This bed makes most sense for someone who wants an ottoman without turning the bedroom into a showpiece. It would suit neutral walls, classic furniture and layered bedding. A bold velvet frame would look silly in some of those rooms; the Herrington would settle in quickly.
It is a weaker choice for a spare room where storage is only a minor bonus. Ottoman frames cost more by nature, and this one still feels like a proper spend for a design that deliberately keeps itself quiet. Bensons for Beds own-brand ottomans are worth comparing before ordering, as they often give a similarly practical brief with a different choice of upholstery styles.
Daily usability also depends on your own habits. People who regularly access under-bed storage will care far more about the lift feel than the headboard curve. I could open and close it in store, yet I could not test the nuisance factor of doing that in a tight bedroom with bedside tables and a heavy duvet in the way.
My decision after seeing it
I would consider the Ideal Home Herrington Ottoman Bed Frame for a main bedroom where calm styling and hidden storage are the brief. I would not pick it to add drama, and I would not pay over the odds for it purely on design. The headboard detail lifts it just enough.
My advice would be to judge it with your existing room in mind, not as an isolated showroom piece. In the wrong setting it could look forgettable. In the right one, it avoids the common ottoman problem of looking heavy before you have even put bedding on it.
