Arezzo Memory Mattress

FirmnessSoft

In shortFor a spare room, soft memory foam over open-coil springs makes sense at a competitive price. For your main bed, I'd spend on pocket springs instead. Read the review

Pros & cons

Here we collect tests, guides and product reviews so that you can create a picture of what others think about the product. This analysis and review is based on my experience and a decade of industry insight.

  • The soft memory-foam surface is a good match if you like a little sink.
  • Springs add bounce beneath the cushioning, rather than an all-foam feel.
  • Added edge support is intended to reduce roll-off.
  • There's no flipping to wrestle with, just regular head-to-foot rotation.
  • Connected open-coil springs let more movement travel across the bed than pocket springs.
  • Memory foam holds warmth around you, so hot sleepers should look elsewhere.
  • The soft feel is less suitable if you're heavier or prefer to stay nearer the surface.

What our reviewers found

I wouldn't choose the Arezzo Memory Mattress for your main bed: to my mind, it's expensive for a soft, open-coil mattress, and a pocket-sprung alternative is a better place to spend your money. It makes more sense for a spare room if the sale price is genuinely competitive, particularly if you want a cushioned surface. If you sleep hot, need a firmer feel or share with a restless sleeper, look elsewhere. The spring construction and the returns terms are the two things to weigh before buying.

The soft finish is the attraction, but softness alone is a bloody expensive way to choose a mattress. Bensons For Beds lists memory foam over deep open-coil springs, with a quilted cover and added edge support. I'd expect some sink around your body from that combination, alongside more shared movement than you get from individually pocketed springs. You can enjoy the first showroom lie-down without committing to the relationship.

The soft surface sits over open-coil springs

The Arezzo's construction points towards a cushioned, gently enveloping surface over a connected spring unit. According to the Bensons For Beds listing, it combines memory foam with deep open-coil springs, a stretch-knit cover and a quilted sleep surface. The retailer calls this version Soft; the Medium version is the separately named Arezzo Memory Support. That last word matters when you order, even if mattress naming does sometimes feel like an eyesight test.

Memory foam moulds around you under warmth and pressure, so I expect the top to let your shoulder and hip sink a little. The springs underneath add bounce. Open-coil springs are connected, which means movement travels across the mattress more readily than with individually pocketed springs. Foam above them can soften some of that movement, but I still prefer pocket springs for a shared bed.

The listed height is 22cm. I think that's fairly shallow for a mattress asking you to pay much beyond budget money: there's limited room for a substantial spring unit and generous comfort layers together. Height alone isn't a measure of quality, though. Before paying more for the memory-foam description, ask how thick that foam layer is. A layer name on a sales ticket is very easy to print; putting more material inside costs rather more.

Bensons also lists its Mattress Edge support feature for additional edge durability and reduced roll-off. That's useful to look for, especially on a smaller shared bed, but the practical question is how far the edge compresses under you. Sit on the side in the showroom, then lie near it. You need to feel comfortable using that space, because paying for a double and avoiding both edges is poor value.

For upkeep, this is a no-turn mattress that needs regular rotation in line with its care guide. You rotate it head to foot; you don't flip it over. The quilted surface contains a layer listed as 75% recycled, and the retailer describes the packaging as containing at least 50% sugar cane and 30% recycled plastics. Those are useful material details, but the spring construction matters much more to my buying decision.

It makes more sense for occasional use than a shared main bed

A spare room is the most convincing home for the Arezzo, provided you want a soft feel and the price compares well with pocket-sprung options. I reserve open coil for occasional use or a genuinely tight budget. Once you're spending more, I want better separation between sleepers and more confidence in how the mattress supports each person. Guests can manage without a grand suite; your everyday bed needs more thought.

Your usual sleeping position helps narrow the choice, but treat the Soft label as a description to try. Firmness labels vary between makers, and your body weight changes how far you sink. Mattress shopping would be much easier if everyone used the same scale, which is apparently too much excitement for the trade.

If this sounds like youHow I see the Arezzo
You sleep on your side and prefer some sinkThe soft surface is worth trying. Check that your shoulder settles comfortably and your hips don't sink much farther than the rest of you.
You sleep on your back or front and prefer to stay nearer the surfaceI would look for a firmer-feeling alternative. The Soft version is a less convincing match.
You are furnishing a spare room for occasional adult guestsThis is its strongest use, if a competitive sale price keeps the open-coil construction in proportion to what you pay.

The combination of foam and springs is appealing if you want some cushioning without an entirely foam mattress. Even so, this isn't the pocket-spring hybrid I usually favour. If you shop for a hybrid alternative, check that the description actually says pocket springs. The word "hybrid" alone gives you too little detail about the spring unit.

Look elsewhere if any of these apply:

  • You share with someone who moves a lot. A connected open-coil unit is a poor fit for that priority. Choose pocket springs to reduce movement passing across the bed.
  • You already get too warm in bed. Memory foam holds warmth around you. I prefer springs with wool or cotton fillings for hot sleepers, even when a foam mattress has a breathable-cover claim.
  • You are heavier or dislike sinking into a mattress. This soft construction is less appealing. Look for firmer support and check the maker's suitability guidance.
  • You are buying a child's everyday mattress. I would skip open coil and put the budget towards a proper new pocket-sprung mattress.

For two adults with very different firmness preferences, split tension or zip-and-link is a better route than hoping you will both enjoy Soft. You already compromise over enough things at home. Try the mattress together if you can, because a solo showroom visit tells you little about how it feels when both sides are occupied.

Check the exact model and the exit terms before ordering

Read the Bensons For Beds listing's trial, returns and delivery terms before you order, because a soft mattress needs a workable route back if it feels wrong at home. I put more weight on that than on a reassuring guarantee badge. The paperwork is the least glamorous part of buying a bed, and the part you will suddenly find fascinating if you need a collection.

Start by checking that your selected size is the Arezzo Memory Mattress in Soft. The Arezzo Memory Support is the Medium alternative, so compare the full names in your basket. Then look for these three things in the terms:

  • Trial eligibility and conditions. Check whether your exact mattress qualifies, when any trial starts and whether you must use it for a minimum period before requesting a change.
  • The return outcome and collection arrangements. Establish whether you get a refund or an exchange, what condition the mattress must be in and whether collection or other deductions apply.
  • Delivery scope. Check where the mattress will be left, what access the delivery team needs and whether taking away your old mattress is included or separately arranged.

The guarantee is useful to have, but read what counts as a fault and what evidence you would need for a claim. In particular, check the treatment of dipping and softening, plus the requirements for the base and rotation. A comfort exchange and a guarantee claim are different processes. Keep the order confirmation and care instructions together so you can find them without an archaeological expedition through your inbox.

Before paying, compare the actual asking price with pocket-sprung mattresses of the same size. Ignore the excitement of the discount and look at what you receive for the money. I think the Arezzo is hard to justify at a substantial price; a meaningful reduction could make it reasonable for occasional use. A sale sticker is no reason to accept open coil when a suitable pocket-sprung mattress costs much the same.

If you can visit a showroom, spend at least ten minutes lying in your normal position, then turn over and try the edge. Sitting on the end in your coat is admirably efficient shopping, but it tells you very little about sleeping there. At home, check your base against the care requirements before delivery, since damaged or unsuitable supports affect how the mattress sits.

Questions and answers about the Arezzo Memory Mattress

Common questions answered by our team first, then questions shoppers asked the retailer, with the retailer’s own answers.

Image of the post author
Common question
Is the Arezzo Memory Mattress soft or medium?

Answer: Bensons For Beds lists the Arezzo Memory Mattress as Soft. The Medium alternative is called the Arezzo Memory Support, so that extra word is worth checking before you click through checkout. I know, apparently choosing a mattress also requires close reading. Try the Soft version in your usual sleeping position, because the amount you sink depends on your body weight as well as the construction.

Common question
Is the Arezzo Memory Mattress suitable if I sleep hot?

Answer: It wouldn't be my pick if you already sleep hot, because memory foam holds warmth around your body. A breathable-cover description wouldn't tempt me to ignore that; you need more than an appealing fabric name when you're already throwing off the duvet. Look for a pocket-sprung mattress with wool or cotton fillings if a cooler-feeling construction is your priority.

Common question
Can I return the Arezzo Memory Mattress if it feels too soft?

Answer: Check the trial and returns terms on the Bensons For Beds listing before ordering. Whether you can change it depends on the terms attached to your purchase, including eligibility and any required period of use. Establish whether the outcome is a refund or an exchange, and check collection charges and mattress-condition requirements before you pay.
